Gigabyte boards often do require a particular sequence of updates. I remember going from one AM4 CPU to a later AM4 CPU and being directed to install a given BIOS version, go to another BIOS version, boot to Windows and update the chipset drivers, then update once again to a later BIOS, swap in the new CPU, then finally update the BIOS once more. It worked, but what a pain.

I totally agree with the sentiment of building a PC to your preferred esthetic. Although personally, I don't like the clash of wood, white fans, and black PCB and AIO, ultimately it's not my PC. It's still a great build and keep the great videos coming Greg!

FYI for anyone possibly having issues with bios flash...check motherboard version...i like gigabyte but i have noticed they have alot of versions of boards...i have an older x570 master 1.0 but also own a b550i pro 1.3 and a b650 elite 1.2....make sure youre downloading the right bios for the version...since you cant see a screen using bios flashback. The version is printed on the box near the sku...and its on the board too...but sometimes its hard to see it when components are installed.

I have the B550 AORUS ELITE AX WIFI. The manual isn't clear if it's v1.0 or v1.1. Makes it a bit worrying when it comes too a bios update. I've saved my bios downloads, but when I compare them to what's on the Gigabyte website, they've changed them a bit, which makes it more confusing. I've used Gigabyte mb's for years, and like them, but this is annoying.
@saxoferm
@saxoferm 4 часа назад
@@SirDaffyD you compare each revision sometimes they change the WiFi and Ethernet module..from maybe Intel to realtek..sometimes they can't find a certain chip and change something else....if you see what's different and then look at your drivers to see which you have. I use hwinfo64 and cpuZ...in cpuZ there's a board tab and it shows the bios version and maybe you could surmise which is your board.....measure twice and cut once kinda thing... Best of luck

Does Twitch now support AV1 direct streaming? A few months ago, that wasn't the case. It also still isn't an option within OBS. I know RU-vid and a few others support it, but Twitch streaming is often the popular choice which is why its encoding options were discussed here :-)

I've not heard of phase sheets before, but I have just tried a Kryosheet on my latest PC build. Sadly, that didn't turn out well as a tiny piece of the electrically conductive sheet broke off and fell onto the CPU board - these sheets are so fragile! I had to dismantle the CPU assembly to carefully remove any such shard. Turning the computer on for the first time was doubly scary as a result. I am glad to say that all is well, having gone back to regular thermal paste. I am glad to see that phase sheets are non-conductive. I hope that makes them more usable for clumsy people like me!

Generally speaking, I try to update to BIOS versions that are less than a year old, as if you try to update to versions that are "too new", you can run into issues like this. I've even killed a motherboard myself. I wish motherboard manufacturers would preach this.

As someone who majored in both computer science and electrical engineering I can completely understand a comp sci major making that mistake, Just as I can understand an electrical engineer not immediately grasping why using just > instead of >= in a program can be big deal. Both fields are well connected, but not a huge overlap (outside asic design and the like). It's like complaining a materials science major doesn't know how to design a bridge.

So, funny story. I had a 5600X inside a B450 and 2x8gb of ram. These 3 components decided stop working, bouncing between CPU and RAM debug-leds. They wouldn't work with other known working RAM sticks. A month or so later, the PC decided to work with same said ram, in same said configuration after swapping it around from single to dual. No idea what happened, cause it works fine now. But didn't before..? Any thoughts?

In the OBS settings, if you connect your twitch account, there's a "enable bandwidth test mode" option. If you turn that on you can do a "test stream". Then open op twitch inspector (should be first result when using google) and log in with your twitch, you can see bandwidth stability. This effectively simulates streaming without actually being live. In addition, i found P6 preset with 2 passes (on multipass mode) to give me the highest quality results. To extra stress the system, turn on replay buffer with a 1 minute replay. That way it keeps recording while doing the test, giving the best/worst case scenario.

If you're BIOS is up to date and it powers on for a moment using the BIOS button on the board. Pull the GPU and try again. It it POSTs without a GPU then you don't have enough juice for the GPU. I ran into that with a 3000 series Nvidia and 12900K. Upgraded to 1000W and no more issues.

I planned out my rig to have extra headroom for content creation/streaming. unfortunately my oversight was my gpu (bought on release day for MSRP thankfully) , I use nvidia broadcast to remove my background and it's pretty cuda heavy and hits my rtx 3070 like a truck. I can safely say that going to 10mbps isn't terrible and is a pretty decent rate for streaming on youtube, bypassing a lot of compression

Hi Greg, the BIOS update problem could easily be the alcohol you used on your cpu socket. Yes the system posts but later it doesn't and that is due to a change in the BIOS chip, my theory is that the BIOS was written to the chip incorrectly or at least with errors due to a very slight short circuit resulting in no post and possible data corruption by turning on the system. I had the same problem with my Gigabyte B550M board when I used alcohol on the socket, i let it fully dry but it didn't do anything anymore and eventually I managed to use Q-flash and that went well every time but it didn't boot. A few days later I used Q-flash again with the same flash file and the system booted. Hopefully this is of some use to you, those boards are so sensitive and alcohol is not 100% non-conductive and leaves small traces. p.s. don't see this as an attack on your theory because I believe your theory too :) The white fans are oké it gives some perspective to the build.

The only time I've had the machine just do nothing at all was when the CPU was dead. It'd track that flashback would still work without a CPU installed/working because, especially for AMD, the CPU needs an update to be recognised and work, so flashback needs to work without one. So, if the flashback button is doing something, the first thing you should do is reflash using it.

There is also an nuances to flashing Gigabyte motherboards: some of their boards can have different revisions, e.g. Gigabyte B760M Aorus Elite AX has v1.0, v1.2, and v1.3, and they can be using different or same bios files, and there are no way of telling those revisions apart except actually boot into the BIOS and check info there, so if you don't have extra CPUs lying around (most of us don't), the only way is to try all of them and find one that works.

You’re able to use H.264 or AVX encoding with modern Radeon cards that are good when compared to older NVENC encoders. Modern NVENC is insane and very hard to beat, but if you have a Radeon card it’s still more than capable of handling encoding and streaming.

Glad to hear it was the BIOS Greg. I hate updating the BIOS on the machines I'm responsible for. Something always goes wrong. My latest was my son's machine which has 128GB of memory in it. He uses it for music production so it's not so much the speed as having that huge bucket of memory. The CPU is a 13700K and the memory is G Skill Ripjaw 3600 which supposedly came in a matched set. Needless to say, with the latest BIOS update I had to downclock the memory to 3200 to keep it stable. At every setting from 3600 down to 3200 the system would either lock up full black screen all the way to Windows booting and an hour later it would BSOD. It took me a day and a half to make sure the system was totally stable and I could hand it off to him. Context: the motherboard is an MSI Z790 Pro DDR4. CPU is set to stock speed. I'm using DDR4 because at the time of the build no board manufacturer would guarantee that their board would handle 128GB of DDR5, and finally I'm not a boss level memory tuner. His machine is set up for maximum reliability since it has to work for a living and if we leave 10 to 15% of performance on the table for the sake of reliability we're cool with that. This machine has never had a game installed on it.

AFAIK, only AMD motherboard bios (sometimes) require flash installing a sequence of one or two older firmware, in order to finally get to the latest firmware version. Intel CPU motherboards can, AFAIK, always go directly to the latest version offered on the manufacturer's support site. Side note: the USB thumb drive may also require being formatted in FAT32 format in order for bios flashback to operate correctly. Or may work with certain brands of USB drives, but not with other brands.

I didn't see that Bios issue coming but hey, now we know and everybody says, it was clear as daylight with these symptoms, yeah, sure. I am not into streaming but do gamerecording with OBS once in a while. The nifty part of the Nvenc is that the transcoding happens inside the graphics card without running an extra loop through the bus, only the compressed result is doing that (obviously). Since you have an Intel with onboard Graphics, you can also use the Quicksync H264 or 265 but then the full picture from the nvidia card has to go over the bus to the IGP. So there is a lot to tinker, compare and benchmark around with.

One thing that is weird is, that I have a gigabyte z790 motherboard and never needed to rename the downloaded bios file, all I needed to do is unpack the zip file...

I just updated the Bios on my Gigabyte B450M DS3H Wifi on my newly built budget PC last night from its out of the box Bios of F64 dated Nov 7, 2022 to it's current Bios F68d dated Sept 2, 2024. Bios update was successful but do worry about bricking my motherboard if something goes with the update.

I literally just updated the bios in my son's pc and mine yesterday, and it took me a few attempts because I needed to have the file name being very precise. And yes both of our MOB's are Gigabyte.

if you update it from bios you don't need any renaming and you can even see the progress of the update

Your content is most definitely entertaining and informative, although I personal have no interest in personal computing or building machines, anymore. However, I am an IT professional and enjoy that very much, I just want to do other things on my personal time.

hi, i have the same mobo and i just flash my bios manually inside the bios. I dont need to change name or anyting and is easy. I never used the button that is on the mobo to do the update. The advantage is that u have a video signal and u can see the progress of the update.

Gigabyte's BIOS Flashback is really weird, back in the days of X99 you didn't even had a flashback button, just a port the motherboard would try to use if it can't boot the original BIOS

Hi Greg. I love your videos man. Great work. If you should recommend an update on a 5600x, 64g-ram, 750wGold, 4070ti system. Primarily used for gaming. Would reuse the platform or upgrade to AM5 and what part would you use?
