Super. I have this locomotive, and for 40 years, it has been the most touchiest locomotive that I have ever operated. Reliable, but needy. Clean wheels, lubrication, and clean contacts keep it running, inside and outside, but I easily put twice the effort into this locomotive, and its two GP-40 cousins, maintenance wise, compared to an Athearn Bluebox SW-7 or GP-9. The chassis of this switcher is the "C" truck from one of their old school C-C diesel locomotives, and you can switch to a "B" truck and have a four wheel switcher, as the old school trucks all mounted the same way, (pin, central metal gear) had removable sideframes, (GE/EMD/MDT) and transmitted power the same way. (Two wipers to the cast metal frame.) I have two of their old school GP-40s and this Plymouth switcher, and while they are great runners with all wheel drive and all wheel pickup, they require more maintenance than other comparable locomotives. I also believe that this may be the only six wheel Plymouth switcher available in HO scale. Hello again from the Tracy Mountain Railway in Colorado. 💙 T.E.N.
I'm not surprised to hear that, I think Athearn has always had the upper hand in terms of quality. Having said that I like this design far better than many other products they've made. No plastic driveshaft to sheer, metal gears on each axle, and thick gears made for something I could see lasting a while.
I do like this switcher, and it is a real puller and a slow speed scale modelers dream, but I do wish that it had a slightly higher gear ratio, as none of my other locomotives like operating with it. (DC) P.S. Good video. 💙 T.E.N.
That Lima loco does have the contacts on the outside of the wheels. It is a 100mph ac electric loco and should have a pantograph on the roof. The brushes fit in a specific way round - one end has an indent where the spring should sit.
I got cut off. That might be used for tires, and I found the pack of hair bands(it contains 3 sizes). The one I the middle of the pack is usable for ho diesels. I'm have quite a number of them in The pack. I haven't tried, but the large size might work on steamers. So if you're needing some buy a pack of Goody bands.

HA ...Yah I got back into Ho Trains after almost 30 years I started watching your channel this year 2024..and started collecting train sets off eBay first and the Train sets I had in 1995 and gave to my nephew came back to me with buildings, etc....Now I have enough Trains, Cars Etc. for 3 4x8 train lengths to play with in the garage.
I just started watching your RU-vid and you have a very informative and interesting show.i see that you have quit the train collection going. You probably have the great rio grande intones I haven’t seen any fan yet but one of my favorites is right here in ft worth. The ft worth western rails. It’s worth looking for and just seeing the colors and unique style. I hope you look it up and take a peak

You can put a little bit on the top to connect it to the motor shaft bit be careful not to get it in the teeth. Put a drop on something and apply the glue with a toothpick.
