With a new axle over a month out, we needed to get this trailer back into service ASAP! So we do our best and cut out the bad and weld in the new. Todays twist is I don’t have my rig with me! So I’m completely dependent on the tools Shawn has in his shop. Can we get it back on
the road safely?

Surprising this guy had a shop and so much equipment and yet hired out the repair.
@Nath8737

Having equipment doesn’t automatically mean you can weld out of position. If those welds fail someone’s going to have a bad day.

Hi there. I've got loads of equipment. I can weld in and out of position. With that being said. I flat out don't have the time to tackle everything. And!! Subbing out work helps those around me...and really...that's what it is all about.

When ya think it's just 1 crack. It turns out 1 side is busted to hell, and the other isn't much better.This is a prime example and I wish more people understood that it's never just as easy as "it'll only take 10min. Just put a little weld on it".

Did a great job on bending both side with 1 wallop .. good job you was about to repair , does go to show sometimes its actually worse than first thought . And yup great to be able to have the facilities at hand as some say sometimes it's just easier to out source the work if you just can't do it yourself . Could be time frame or your guy is not available to do the repair . Thanks for sharing the video Anthony

Ive owned a trailer a trailer shop for 21 years. That torsion axel is bent on the inner solid square bar probably. It’ll start eating tires soon enough. There is a system used to check alignment that I doubt was used.
@MeltinMetalAnthony
@MeltinMetalAnthony 8 месяцев назад
What is the name of the system?
@terryjones341
@terryjones341 8 месяцев назад
Couple of plates bolted to the hubs. Measure at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock can help you determine camber and tow. Use the frame of the trailer to help to check symmetry.

Got a boat trailer a while back with a drop torsion axle on it. I went to do some mods on the axle and guard mounts to allow me to fit larger tyres and I found some dodgy brothers repairs had been done on it, the bar holding the stub axle to the main axle had been replaced with just simple box section steel, and it was also badly rusted to boot. I had a set of springs and hangers in the spares bin, so I just got rid of it and replaced it with a normal spring mounted drop axle.

MMA what up brotha, I've been running an onsite and offsite welding outfit for a few years. I'm blessed, no complaints. Here in southeast Missouri we run river jets. Alot of aluminum repair. I've always built up equipment mainly for intentions of mobility. Ran off my miller 400 pro. Came across a much younger version of ol boy melting metal Anthony From years back. Long story short. Thanks for the video. Been a follower since the beginning. My spoolmate 30a and wc-24 controller along with my savings appreciates you. Awesome to see you surfacing so strongly. Ill end with a qoute of mine. "If woman don't find ya handsome they should at least find ya handy"

I love MIG welding the old stuff a little bit harder to use because you get cold lap especially when you're just tacking those new inverters have inductance control you can set the inductance where it Heats it right up right now virtually no cold lap with the new stuff but I do love me some Miller 252 they're good welders but I do realize in your situation you couldn't get it too hot because of the dampener inside the axle I do not like those I have burned a few of those up good job though
@MeltinMetalAnthony
@MeltinMetalAnthony Год назад
Good tip! I’ve never used a mig win inductance control
@derekbryant6137
@derekbryant6137 Год назад
@MeltinMetalAnthony another thing I do with the older mig welders is I start 1/2 ahead of the start of the joint to be welded and then back up to the start and then go forward this helps with preventing cold lap. And when I get to the end of the joint I get to the end and back up about a 1/4 inch and get out of it that fills craters

@@MeltinMetalAnthonyits a dial inside of some miller wire feed units but aside from arc dig labeling you can really dial in arc length and width " spray triangle/cone " for aluminum.. great for inside tube ends on railings where you dont wanna show welds on a hidden wall mount etc

Do you have crazy insurance? My company just left California and apparently most of them have as well. Anything to do with flames and they're out! It took me a week of screening calls and online bullshit to get turned down at every turn. They specifically said no auto work. I got a year policy for structural steel erection, and welding, including marine work for 3800 a year, but they all are clear that I can't weld on anything automotive. I will, but not insured for it apparently. Any thoughts? I know that everyone in Cali is ue happy and I should probably just sell the house and buy or build a nice shopartment somewhere else, but have you ever been to Santa Cruz? I've traveled and lived all over, but I always end up back here.
