are you guys using the current exchange rate of close to 17?
@2ndlife-xq2yj
@2ndlife-xq2yj 9 месяцев назад
when you’re estimating the 400 Pesos to 20 USD it’s just wrongly assuming 1USD:20 Pesos, but that good days have been long gone, it’s below 18 Pesos since beginning of 2023 and most of this year close to 17; would appreciate better if you guys can post each expense items’ original Pesos pricing, and if you can use the correct exchange rate, if your total expense in Pesos is 20,000 then in USD is 1162 USD, don’t give wrong information; especially to retirees on social security, every 1 dollar different is different

I love the variety of topics you guys cover, from a local’s perspective. This one is a great updated version of the cost of living, giving people a realistic understanding + expectation of what is like to live and spend in Playa del Carmen. Hands down my favourite RU-vid channel! Una vez más, muchas gracias y saludos desde Holanda 💯👏🏼

Grocery reference, ps we are like you guys we eat 100% at home (4 people) only organic (food in the US is highly sprayed with pesticides etc) our grocery budget per week here is $600-$700 🤪 (a WEEK)
@ForTheRoadTravels
@ForTheRoadTravels 10 месяцев назад
We've *always* reminded ourselves of how fortunate we are to have access to fruit and vegetable markets. Approximately 80% of the produce is sourced from local farms, while the remaining 20% comes from other states in Mexico, and most of it is organic. The prices here are definitely more affordable, and although some fruits and vegetables not grown locally may be considered "expensive," they still don't compare to prices in the US 💰💵. Thank you for your support and for sharing these insightful observations, which give us a better understanding. Saludos, amiga! 🤗🥰🤩

Congrats Simone & Geovanny on taking the step to own your home! I saw a few people ask about affordable homes and neighborhoods in PDC. A little while ago, I did a video on my channel re: What You Can Get in PDC for 100K USD? Maybe I should return to that topic as a few more options have become available since I did that video; there are even options for less than than further out from Centro. While it’s true that prices in the most touristic area are not cheap whether we’re considering dining out or housing, with a bit of digging, some affordable options can be found. One of my clients just put an offer on an older-style but still very functional 2-Bdrm 2-bath condo in Centro that was listed at 130K USD! Mind you, for that price-point or even less, one can find a modern 2 Bdrm on the non-beach side of the highway in a building or gated community with amenities such as a pool, possibly a gym, etc. It’s a matter of preference, and it’s also important to keep in mind if the client wants a property to live in or primarily as an investment. Guys, let’s collab :) Blessings and keep up the great work 💕

Hey Leticia 🤗🤗 Thank you so much for your well wishes, we appreciate it so much 🥰 Oh ya, there seems to be a TON of interest in what it actually costs to live here, so I'm sure anything you create around that topic will be of so much use to people 🙏🙏 US$ 130 isn't bad at all for Centro - I'd be super interested to see what it looks like 👀 Yesss, let's plan a video together next year, something around cost of living I think would be super beneficial for the both our audiences 🫶🙏 Thank you amigo, we're sending you un fuerte abrazo 🤗

Hola Lynne 🙌 Thank you very much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment - we genuinely appreciate it! It's a blessing that I (Geo) was able to acquire a property before leaving Mexico. Currently, it's more challenging to find properties, even for affordable housing in the area where we are now. Sometimes, foreigners tend to gravitate towards beachfront properties, which are naturally more expensive, and they may overlook the more affordable options in local areas. Personally, I find some of these local areas to be quite beautiful. Thanks once again for your support, amiga! 😊🏡

I'm in Canada so Mexico will always feel like a bargain, even though the prices are definitely increasing. I really noticed it when I was there in March, hadn't been to Playa in about 9 years and had been spending time in a lot cheaper places in Mexico, so I roll off the ADO bus, ask about a cab and was stunned when he said 100 pesos! You two sound like budget masters!

*Hola* Lori 🙌 Definitely, coming from countries like CA or the US where the currency is stronger than the peso, the money most of the time goes further. Yeah, taxi prices have gone up significantly, it's even cheaper going to Tulum via Colectivo than sometimes from point to point within PDC. We do our best to maximize our money 🤭. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment about your experience. Saludos Lori 🫶

I am in Playa now....for the 1st time in 4 years. I am shocked beyond words as to the price of transportation , food.....I would say the prices with exceptions to local veggies & fruit is similar to Canada. But what disturbs me more is the rudeness and lack of kindness ,especially the younger people......I have never seen this before here....I was walking on the sidewalk carrying 4 bags of groceries.....a group came toward me and refused to move...I had to go onto the road! Then I get home and there are 5 of them watching me struggle for the key rather than opening the door from their side.....honestly not loving it here! Forget the 5 th Ave......I run! I think I will try Puerto Morelos.....if I come this way, otherwise I am heading West back to Zihuatanejo or Mazatlan..... Sorry if I offended, but my opinion of Playa is all about $$$$$ now!

I was in Novi Sad Serbia and got my haircut for about $9. It was cut shorter than in Walnut Creek which usually costs around $25. The waiter at Pueblo Magico restaurant here in Walnut Creek told me to check out Playa del Carmen as I’ve only visited Mexico’s west coast. Most of the taquerias in East Bay have Jalisco origins. Flights from SFO to Guadalajara are quick and affordable so don’t know if I have time for Caribbean side. I really enjoyed mountains in Jalisco as I was able to escape Puerto Vallarta humidity with a short drive.

My friends retired and live in the villages right outside of Tulum...Macario Gomez and Francisco Uh May. You can definitely live there for under $1,000 per month. Easy. They have expats there. Check out Aldea Jaguar and speak to Tyler. He's my buddy. He can talk to you about long term rentals in the area or at his place too. I lived in those villages for 8 months. Loved it! Wonderful community. The collectivo there leaves from beside the Super Aki in Tulum.

@ForTheRoadTravels
@ForTheRoadTravels 9 месяцев назад
This all depends, for the long term *rentals* typically you find them unfurnished, but this depends on the landlord, and the areas, in the beachside areas you might find more furnished apartments but in the local areas most of the time you will have to be in charge for bringing your own stuff. I visited over the summer and had seen your videos from earlier in the year sharing how it got more expensive. I was shocked that the touristy areas were pretty much close to U.S. pricing for stuff. It was insane. After the first day I started venturing off to the locals area where I can eat better food for a cheaper price.

Hola *Alejandro* 🙌 For sure, anything on 5th Avenue has become super pricey, most of the time not even locals can shop or dine there because the prices are insane if you compare them with their very low salaries in the country. 🤯 Definitely, by walking 2 or 3 blocks away from the fifth avenue you will save a ton, and have a more authentic culinary and cultural experience. @ForTheRoadTravels
@ForTheRoadTravels 9 месяцев назад
As a temporary or permanent resident, you are entitled to FREE Mexican healthcare; which is far from what you would expect if you're coming from the USA, CA, or Europe. There are private hospitals, which are *GREAT* and they have incredible facilities and doctors. Nevertheless, if you do not have private health insurance these hospitals can be super expensive, but there is quality medical care in the region for sure. I was just in PV. RU-vid makes it look wayyyyyy better than it really is. I was pretty disappointed, honestly. Still felt pretty third world. On top of that, PV is almost the cost of US cost of living at this point, if you want to live somewhere decent. Then I went to Belgium. Belgium is still very cheap and very first world. Living in Mexico really doesn't make any sense anymore, unless you live super inland and lower your quality of life.
@ForTheRoadTravels
@ForTheRoadTravels 9 месяцев назад
*Really* ? That's the thing some content creators love rave about a place instead of sharing their honest thoughts. P.V. is way bigger than PDC and here as well if you want to live in a decent place close to the beach, you might be paying US prices too, and let's no talk about Tulum 🤭. Living inland is not necessary you'd have to lower your quality of life, you can still live a really good and comfortable life, but you will need to do more local stuff. Also, this depends on where in Mexico you live. Thank you very much for sharing your experience and for watching our video, we truly appreciate it 🫶🙏🤩

are you using the current exchange rate of close to 17? when you’re estimating the 400 Pesos to 20 USD it’s just wrongly assuming 1USD:20 Pesos, but that good days have been long gone, it’s below 18 Pesos since beginning of 2023 and most of this year close to 17; would appreciate better if you guys can post each expense items’ original Pesos pricing

@@ForTheRoadTravels most people who are there for a week or so are not going to be able to “avoid” all the expensive prices, police extortion, and low quality food. The exact opposite of why we go to Mexico. You live there, glad you have found the spots to make it worthwhile but you’re also constantly having to worry about getting over charged. Mexico City, Monterrey, chihuahua, almost all of Baja is much better. Hell I’d rather hang out in Juarez. All of the Yucatán has sold out to US and Canadian development. Did I have a bad experience, YES! Just going there was a bad experience. Sargassum all in the beach, 12$ for a QUESADILLA, 7$ for a beer lol. 😂 why would I go to Mexico for a 7$ beer. I’ve been going to the Yucatán for over 20 years. It’s toast. Had to drive all the way to Valladolid just to have authentic experience. It’s gone. It’s not coming back. And don’t get me started on tulum and the absolute disastrous infrastructure and prices. Sucks because the cenotes and people are very amazing. But they lost their identity to DOLLARS.
