Ensemble Studios was an American video game developer responsible for the creation of the Age of Empires series. It was massively popular during the 90s and early 2000s. Then Microsoft bought it in 2001. Since the RTS genre couldn't be adapted for the consoles of the time and others genres were gaining tractions, Microsoft simply decided to shut down Ensemble in 2009. It would take more than a decade for MS to revive the series and make a big deal out of it like a bunch of hypocrites. Moral of the story: Don't trust Microsoft. Most importanly, don't allow yourself to be bought by Microsoft.

You can't convince me that this wasn't a set up. You fail 1 time your gone, you succeed multiple times then your gone. Xbox there's no way outta this one..... You're done!

Truly disappointed in Microsoft for the closures of Tango Gameworks. Finally a studio that they have that gave them a ton of great reviews and awards last year from both the media and gamer audience for which they haven't gotten for such a long time and they dicided to close that studio down. It's like committing business suicide over greedy. Hifi Rush got better reviews scores and won more awards than their competitor Sony Playstation biggest exclusive game for last year which is Marvel Spiderman 2. Also Hifi Rush also beat their own Xbox biggest exclusive for last year which is Starfield in both review scores and awards. How can they close that type of game studio, how is it even possible for Tango Gameworks to even get cut after receiving so much praise. Finally a Xbox owned Japanese studio with quality and they close it down, what Microsoft even thinking. Over 400 or more video games released last year and Hifi Rush was in the top five or ten of must play for 2023 and they closed that game studio are you kiddy me. As an strictly only Xbox gamer words can't describe how disappointed I am.

Additionally, corporations wrote huge checks during the pandemic because gaming was expanding. This capitalistic breakneck drive for unsustainable expansion is madness, and this is the result. The bubble bursts and it’s always the small people who get blown up, never the CEOs.

I feel like hellblade will under perform and they might get chopped next. The game just doesn’t appeal to the masses and that seems like all they care about now..

So after doing a bit of research this is what I found: Microsoft shut down four Bethesda studios due to a "reprioritization of titles and resources" and to prioritize investment in Bethesda's portfolio of "blockbuster games". Xbox Game Studios chief Matt Booty announced the restructuring in a memo to staff, writing that the closures were "grounded in prioritizing high-impact titles and further investing in Bethesda's portfolio of blockbuster games and beloved worlds. So basically a reprioritization of titles and resources is basically a fancy way of saying we're downsizing. I don't understand how Microsoft can shut these studios down when they turned a profit. Microsoft posted a revenue of $236.58 billion in the 12 months leading up to March 31, 2024, which is a 13.97% growth year-over-year. In 2023, Microsoft made $56.2 billion in revenue and a net income of $20.1 billion in the fourth and final quarter of its 2023 fiscal year . For the fiscal year ending June 30, 2023, Microsoft had an annual revenue of $211.92 billion, which is 6.88% growth year-over-year. I dont understand this.

Sorry to unsubscribe. I love you guys but I hope you understand that I've moved on from Xbox and don't want to hear anything from them anymore. I hope that all people from these four studios land on a soft spot and can get things together as quickly as possible.

Microsoft is a liability on Xbox right now. Its simply a company that will punch you in the face to remind you that they are still a company aiming to make a profit instead of making a short term loss and a long term gain in profit making.. At this point i think Microsoft should just sell some of their gaming IP´s.

MS have gone the Embracer group route of things. Buy up lots so nobody else can have it and then flush them once they realise they’ve been financially reckless. All so they can own COD

Makes you wonder why they’re sucking up all the studios, only to shutter them before they get their next games out before starting a new one under Microsoft’s name. Like, you risked the investment in buying them, own the risk!

Stopped using my Xbox like 5 years ago .... Corporate cash grabbers , had high hopes and defended Xbox and Microsoft but damn. They're not for gamers anymore ,at least back then there was somewhat of a balance . These developers are being rushed to create new IP's and for them to get thrown into a "streaming service" of course they're not going to make many sales especially half made games . Xbox struggles to create new IP's and franchise them so they thought buying existing IPs (studios) would help drive sales. Nah it don't work that way , developers are gamers too.. creative thinkers , they want to make their dreams a reality, they just need the time and resources create . Man I used to want to be a game developer and went to school for some game design classes but seeing how things are ran in the corporate eye nope not anymore, is just a damn shame , I feel bad for a lot of people that pour their heart and souls into these games and studios for them to get brushed to the side. Idk I don't know the full business aspect of it . If they think this is a good move for the company by all means whatever. Supposedly it's to free up resources in other departments. Even with backward compatibility, it is not really true back compatibility either. At least not what is there right now. You still need a web connection to download the game. There is no offline mode. It is better than Nintendos' solution and stuffing it all behind a subscription.

Had to sell my Xbox for gas money a while ago but it’s still infuriating to learn about this. I main PS5 but High fi Rush really impressed me and I was hoping for it to lead to bigger sequels and a possible show. Leadership needs to be shaken up cause Xbox is killing the industry closing good studios.

Microsoft’s quest to streamline game dev costs is a balancing act between art and economics. It’s not just about a $3 trillion valuation; it’s about delivering value to shareholders and sustaining the broader economy, including pensions. Awards are nice, but ROI is king.

Prey has been on my Steam wishlist since 2021. I`ll buy it when it is under 5€. VALVE gets 1,5€ and Microsoft 3,5€ so they can get some revenue towards Actiblizzard costs. Hopefully developers can keep their jobs.

I don’t trust any of the AAA ponzi bankrupt scheme junk honestly. That type of model is unsustainable and frankly results in generally crap games anyway, where graphics and bells and whistles are more important to than design. This is also the fault of gamers for buying into hype and trailers when we should be supporting good, smaller games. Which is actually why I like game pass: lots of good, smaller games. AAA sucks and will eventually ruin anything we hold dear.

I have lowered my Gamepass Subscription and once I get my new pc in June, I am getting rid of my xbox and all the games. First Sony, now Microsoft. Both can go away.

From day one i just couldn't understand the hype for RedFall, it always looked mid at best. Alarm bells were ringing from the very first gameplay i saw of it, for me anyway. It just looked meh. Then ended up being rushed out and we got what we got.

Will be interesting to see if Microsoft is buying studios only to dismantle them and removing a lot of developer jobs, then follow up the next move by starting a lot of micro-personnel big studios for AI game development. Removing game Devs beforehand so they can't complain about AI taking their jobs. Therefore avoiding the Hollywood writer and VFX strikes that demand and put in place better opportunities for workers.

This constant doom and gloom over Xbox is really annoying, the june 9th showcase will come and everyone will be in high spirits again, then some unexpected negative thing will happen and it's back to "Is Xbox going away?!" so tired of it.

Tbh ive pretty much lost trust in xbox personally an been debating on selling my series x since i already have ps5 that i was thinking of making my new home console since i got it for that reason alone makes me less interested in xbox lately theres only 2 reasons i still have it atm one being because of my friends an family 2nd being i have a lot invested into so many games on my acct lol but other then that ive really been considering it at this point an the direction xbox is going with everything. Also have a Nswitch an pc for alternative options if i get rid of my series x also still have my xbox one x as well if anything.

Meanwhile 343 has blown it with Xbox's biggest IP REPEATEDLY, The Initiative has pissed around with Perfect Dark for 6 years and still has f all to show for it, and hell Todd Howard and co cant even put out a next gen update without utterly breaking their games, and these guys all are still in business

Probably an unpopular opinion, but quit pretending as though this is a mutually exclusive "L" move by Microsoft when its been the entire industry including the likes of Sony this whole past year doing this. Its also very easy to assume the worst of a companies decision making when you don't have all the facts or the necessary context from which to draw any kind of realistic conclusion, and unless your personally in that exact same position as the people making these decisions don't kid yourself for a second in thinking you'd do any better then them. I am not insinuating its fair that these people lost their jobs or that Microsoft shouldn't be ashamed, but its also not the responsibility of gamers to really care about such things other then the quality of the products for which we are paying for.

You’ve even released another video recently telling how bad the game still is. I’m not saying your arguments are wrong but you’re not telling everything here and you shouldn’t be saying how bad you feel about Ariane Austin closing, it’s just a bad look.
