@@jairmarta7806 I am white,but I don't have dreds(yet). But I really like them . I know for a fact that a lot of ancient European countries and cultures used to wear dreadlocks. Mostly warriors and hunters used to wear them. And I mean there are a lot of black women who get their hair straight, so why can't white or asian people have locks? I am definitely not racist, I just like the way dreadlocks look, for example I listen to J. Cole very often and I see him as my idol and that's one of the reasons I would like to have dreads. And I think you should not see that as cultural appropriation, but as a compliment of me liking part of black people's culture. After all it's just hair and everyone has their own taste, and I think that everyone could have what ever hairstyle they want. For example Nikola Tesla is from my country (Serbia) and he managed to turn electricity into an energy source. And what would you feel like if I told you that you can't use electricity because a guy from my country invented it and it's a part of my culture? I wrote this comment with nothing bad in mind and with my full honesty and respect, so If someone is going reply to my comment, I would like to get that respect in return.
@sircruz7573
@sircruz7573 4 года назад
Why is this even a question, anybody can have dreadlocks Edit: I'm reading the comments and it's not even about the skin tone to have dreads. It's about if you have curls. I have a friend that is darker than me and has straight hair and a white friend that has curls.

"cultural appropriation." In ancient Greece for example, some of the earliest depictions of dreads date back to 3600 BC. ... Historians have uncovered Roman accounts stating that the Celts wore their hair “like snakes” and that several Germanic tribes and Vikings were known to wear dreadlocks. dreadlocks didnt originate anywhere, everyone had them.

I am Celtic ( Irish to be preside) and Dreadlocks are apart of Celtic culture. We have Braids and Dredds. But we call them Trilseáin, Gruaig Shúgánach and Dreideanna. Braids were a sign of power and Dredds were done in your hair when getting ready for battle to make you look more intimidating and it also stayed out of your face. Men and women did this as men and women could equally be warriors. This is still done with Insular and was done with Continental Celts

@wilheiminplatz
@wilheiminplatz Год назад
@@bluegrim4252 except its not lmao and anybody who has event the smallest knowledge will tell you, not all hair is the same - some styles suit others best same as skin and other genetic qualities. White straight hair are called dreads because the strands DIE lmao. For other cultures, namely native and black people, its referred as locs or braids, which you clearly aren't aware of and only shows how lacking you are of this all. Those styles are protective and evolved with their culture, white people had their own style of braids aka vikings but not box braids lol, the horrible smelly dead hair you call "dreads" is a derogatory term for when hair becomes so matted and dead it clumps. White people only get that through wanting to mimic and steal culture, but are left with legit decomposing hair that reeks and can only be salvaged by cutting it off (though with negative side effects like literally ruining your scalp and pushing back your hairline). If you want go ahead, but we'll be laughing at you when you go bald but until then will stay away because you legit stink.

I have the straightest hair possible and have free-form locs. 4 years and they're getting long, thick and heavy..and they're beautiful and natural. I feel a strong connection to the hair on my head and the hair I choose to let grow on my body. It's not a culture thing for me, it's very personal. After being told to look a certain way from such an early age, letting myself be natural and take up space is cathartic. I am powerful and confident with my roots and noone can take that feeling from me, no matter how many times I get berated in public. 🤷‍♀️

I had dreads for about a year. It is possible to loc up your hair if you are white/have straight hair. I found it to be a LOT of work but thats because looking back i was too much of a perfectionist with them- defeating the whole point. Back combing and twist and rip methods both work as long as you combine that with palm rolling. I highly recommend NOT using any gels or any products other than the dollylocks spray to loc them up- that's all that worked for me. The only thing I feel strongly about is PLEASE DON'T crochet your hair more than once a month! I made that mistake and no one ever told me not to use it every day to get all those loose stragglers in. Before I loc'd it all up my hair was to my waist. I decided to comb them out and spent a week and a half painstakingly combing them out with water and conditioner- knot by knot. By the time I was done my once waist length hair was all different lengths and I had to cut my hair to shoulder length because my once thick hair was now stringy and looking horrible and broken. I was devastated. In the process of growing my hair back now and I do miss my dreads all the time. I never had the mildew issue with them because even though it took forever I made sure they were always dry when I got done washing them. I never really experienced that much negative attention as a white person with dreads. It seemed most people were very accepting- especially when they have- or have had- dreads themselves because they could appreciate all the work that had to be put into them and the maintenance. Yeah every once in a blue moon someone would think you were trying to offend them because how dare you and cultural appropriation and all but I always made 3 points- 1)imitation is the best form of flattery, 2)the reality that EVERYONES hair- no matter your race- will loc up if you don't brush it and neglect it. Heck even a dog with long hair will have dreads if you don't brush them, we normally say its matted hair and 3)no matter what you do in life you'll always offend SOMEONE- no matter how perfect you are, so accept that and live YOUR life and do what makes YOU happy (as long as it doesn't cause you or anyone else any harm and it's legal.) Sorry so long, hope it helps

Just seeing this bro good shit fr fr it doesn’t matter what race you are you shouldn’t have to change the way you want to present yourself or the way you want to look just because someone says it’s cultural appropriation. Black woman do the same thing when it comes to perms when they perm their hair so it’s nice and straight like how white ladies have their hair and there’s nothing wrong with that. That's kinda f'd up, because not even 20 years ago blakck woman were considered "more beautiful" with straight hair. That sentiment was a product of forced assimilation from slavery. At that time, black women were also less equipped with the tools and resources to maintain their , as well as much of the knowledge passed down through generations of the practice of hair maintenance. I was a former cosmetology student and I can say, yes... white people can get dreads. Rather it’s synthetic, their real hair, or a wig. We are at a point in life where self expression shouldn’t be a bad thing rather it’s through hair or makeup. I’ve done dreads on people (while they were mostly synthetic) on both cultures. I am also very much aware of the circumstances that are idiotic about hair in the work field and I do understand how some people feel about that. Trust me, it’s not fair. It is stupid that some businesses are picky about hair. I have massive respect for all cultures and I don’t claim any hairstyle (like dreads) to be owned by me or something? I don’t even claim the swoops hair-look as mine or owned by anyone in fact. Hair is just a form of self expression. I understand that dreads, to some cultures, represent something meaningful, and that is a beautiful thing. Now to answer the dumb question. “Can Bald People Have Dreads?” - Yes. A bald person can have hair. It’s called a wig or toupee. (Which is the dumbest question I’ve seen to be asked). That’s like, making fun of someone who can’t grow their hair out? Like are people really that low and inconsiderate?

Ayt, so in my opinion I don't think white people should get dreadlocks. The way I see it is that for them it's just an aesthetic choice. They get dreadlocks because they like the way they look. I started my journey as an attempt to come to terms with my Blackness. I think a lot of people with tighter curl patterns can agree that their hair is often policed and regulated. People get made to feel that having afro hair is inherently wrong. In South Africa, where I'm from there used to be specific laws that separated people into specific categories based on hair texture. Hair was used as a way to oppress people under the Apartheid regime. That still carries into the mindset people have today. Black hair gets portrayed as wrong, hard to manage and unattractive. That's why it's so hard for a lot of black people to figure out what to do with their hair. So when I get dreadlocks, a simple style that suits my tight curl pattern and naturally works with my Blackness it makes me feel valued. It's not easy though. And in my person opinion part of the reason it's not easy is because dreadlocks are seen as this rustic hippy aesthetic. They're given this label as unprofessional. Whilst I can't speak to all of them I will say that in my opinion this connection between dreadlocks and bohemian rustic aesthetics has a string correlation in white people with dreadlocks. When they make the aesthetic choice to have dreadlocks they unintentionally give the message that dreadlocks are for bohemians and not proffesionals. They also don't acknowledge the difficulty that comes in the experience of hair for black people. I know this is probably just going to devolve into an internet argument over bullshit but I wanted to share the way I felt. And how I feel is that white people shouldn't get dreads because for them it's just hair. For me, it's attempting to break a life time of self hate

The earliest depiction of Dreads comes from Greece, not Africa. Many cultures around the world have had the hairstyle throughout history. Native Americans, Celts, Indian monks etc all have had the hairstyle. It has been a part of MANY cultures and you have absolutely no right to say that a certain group can't have it because they're "the wrong color". Do some research, kid.
