Hello sir my estrogen amd progesterone is slightly low im 34 years old my nutrients r optimal like vit d, b12, zinc only expect my ferritin is 52. I have regular period . My other harmones r normal can i take because im.losing whole over density year by year. My testestrone is 40 only, dhea is also normal

Dr. Mohebi, what about transgender women? I've been on estrogen for a couple years now, and I don't think I've had any further hair loss since I started (but it's hard to be subjective about these things). I've seen two surgeons about getting hair restoration, and one told me that I absolutely must use finasteride and he wouldn't even consider taking me as a patient unless I agreed to take it. The other told me that "I probably don't need it". Two opposite answers, and neither was able to explain to me why they felt that way. So I'm confused. Do trans-women like me need to take finasteride? It's scary, because I do not want to risk losing more hair, but us trans women are warned against taking it due to finasteride's propensity of increasing feelings of depression after you've been on it for a while. We all already live with depression, and even a tiny bit more can be devastating. But so can hair loss. So, I'm desperately hoping you can help me understand better whether I should take it or whether I'm safe to avoid it? ❤‍🩹
