London's Metropolitan Police force has been dogged by claims and accusations of "institutional misogyny, racism and homophobia." Polling and surveys of Londoners show that trust in the police is the lowest in decades.
In light of high profile cases, including the murder of Sarah Everard, Zara Aleena and Sabina Nessa, we look at the state of policing in London and the women forcing through change.
The Angiolini Inquiry has published its first report into how the off-duty Met Police Officer, Wayne Couzens was able to abduct, rape and murder Sarah Everard. The report found ‘Wayne Couzens should never have been a police officer’. And the Chair, Lady Elish Angiolin, says: “Without significant overhaul, there is nothing to stop another Wayne Couzens operating in plain sight”
4. It details how failures of investigations, recruitment and vetting are “depressingly familiar in policing” but “now is the time for change”.
