Your videos are always helpful and full of great advices, and I like the strategy you suggested, but I don’t understand why you’re against stock music libraries. First of all, Audiojungle, Pond5 and some others let you set your prices (if you put the price like 39 or 49 the music would still sell). And it’s not like you sell it for 40$, you sell license again and again for 40$ each. Saying “you selling your composition for 10$“ is the same as saying that singers and bands sell their songs for 1$ on iTunes. Obviously they made thousands with each song when iTunes was still a thing. And the best part that if you go on non-exclusive agreement with libraries (which you always should with stock music), then you can sell the same tracks on a dozen of libraries, without writing new tracks (like with production libraries that are all exclusive-only). Add up that stock music is pretty simple and not as hard to write as soundtracks, I think it’s a liable option for one of that two incomes that we could get until we succeed as a videogame/trailer composers. And a passive one, kinda, as well, that would still exist for years to come.
Thanks first of all. I think it should be obvious that when we speak of selling that I mean licensing a track. Someone says they are selling music on audio jungle. It obviously means licensing. However, if you reach out to non-media business companies like for example, real estate and you compose music for these, which is then exclusively for them you can instantly make 10,000 or even €20,000 so I’m asking why bother and wasting time with those platforms?
Because it requires less time and effort, I guess, and also it’s some form of passive income that would still work for you even when the desired job would finally work out. I’m not saying that everyone should write music for stock libraries, but I think it’s a good alternative for teaching or RU-vid videos, that you suggest as a second type of income. I’m just surprised you completely write-off this option.
I am writing it off because there even better solution that you can do without investing too much time that still generates more than a few hundred bucks on Audio jungle.
