Man even when there’s someone who’s successful or is growing you always find a way to bash on them or Nick pick what they aren’t doing right in the moment. That’s a talent right there, a useless one, but a talent all the same..
brandon took a leap of faith, and i think he does have a blue print. There are ALOT of competitions; national competitions. If you think you're work is good enough competitions are the best way to get noticed, and free publicity.
28:30 Pleeeeease stop speculating man you sound ridiculous. And you wonder why people think you’re envious of people, “aw man this guy HAS to be rich there’s no way he can pay all these artists AND afford his own living space” Koffee Comics has a lot of growing up to do wouldn’t you say Koffee Comics?
Solid points indeed in the video! There are a lot of things to think about when you see indie creators try to develop their stories that try to compete in the market. Marketing is the savior for bad/generic/good work.
I follow brandon on social media and alot of stuff hes says is pretty....pointless imo. I always looked at him as a content creator doing what he has to do to feed the algorithm, is this a bad thing? No because you have to stay in the public eye somehow. Ive checked out his stories and nothing really was...fun to read. just a goblin felt like him and jks were just riding that whole isekai/ gaming world wave that webtoons became known for. I personally didnt like it. Characters felt.....generic and boring, which really isnt his fault from an artistic pov but the dialouge didnt pull me in either, which is what i pay attention to the most. I dont really agree with the "im doing this to get an anime" mindset because ive seen alot of people think like that and the stories they produce....are so heavily inspried by that thought that the characters they create lack personality. But i wish the best for anyone in this space and hes doing what most wish they can do so congrats to him and his future works.
An this isn't a knock against Brandon or anything man gets millions of views of his stuff, does this mean it's good? No but it shows that he is able to create something that a large amount of people enjoy, so that's a win in my book.
Dude Brandon chen became popular from his manga "icarus rising" for the tetzuka contest which got criticed by a lot top people in Japan. What have you done?
@@muzisensei3493 na bro I don't care if you diss him or not I'm just asking what body of work are known for, you're just known for hating when you as a person have done nothing. You say he is just on webtoon, well I don't see you with jump
I havent watched the whole vid but lemme throw this out there Disclaimer: last thing I read from him was his winning work for silent manga audition( which was actually horrendously SHIT, his previous audition was WAY better) so he might have gotten better idk anyway Brandon is one of the worst foreign mangakas if not the worst one Its for the same reason a lot of foreign manga is bad The reason is simple, he sucks at characters He gives way too much attention to the “premise” or the “hook” of the story and once that “new and quirky” new premise waves off (which is usually like 10-15 pages of the first chapter) you get to see just shallow and hollow characters He has zero understanding of (characters) Trust me I have had my eyes on him since icarus (one of his first manga maybe first idk) came out, Brandon is simply a marketing genius, he knew the only thing the western reader would care abt is the art so he collabed with a shit ton of skilled artists( wasted potential imo but wat do I know right?) to give the impression that his mangas are somewhat professional despite the clear amateur writing, and took advantage of the tiktok algorithm and just kept SPAMMING the shit outta his work to get exposure.
To answer your question yes he is successful as he sold novels he wrote and now is working on manga, webtoon and novels he isn't even talking about his series and yet they are popular without him having to constantly promote it that is because the studio he works for to produce these series get them out there and he doesn't show that he is struggling in any capacity
hey man, i've seen some vids and it seems you only compare shonen indie stuff to battle shonen mainstream manga like DB/One piece , etc. I'd like you take on Japanese Indie mangas shonen battle or other genres. Personally like them more than JP mainstream, though indie JP stuff is miles better quality to western indie, they are have rough edges to their JP mainstream counterpart, but i like that appeal.
That's because I don't sell in Japan, I'm trying to sell in the west. Plus, shonen is what I like. If u want me to talk about other stuff, that'll cost u $20.
33:07 when you said kfc selling beef that reminded me of that one time I hop changed their name to I hob mf your the house of pancakes not the house of burgers wtf 😂😂😂
I've heard of him. He makes zombie food, so I ain't interested. If u or anyone really wants my opinion on it, that'll be $20 fee. This is a business, bro.
@@muzisensei3493bro literally so broke he's asking for 20 buckaroos to talk about randos on the internet. Manga game aint working out for you big fella? Less talking about others and more working on your self
The contracts are different per series, but you are closer, standard contracts are higher and also you get coin percentage as well. Source, I am the other Author of Just A Goblin lol
Even if this was true (it's not, different authors have different contracts and make money from fast passes and donations), it only accounts for one income source. He has multiple running webtoons that aren't on the Webtoon site. And he has a patreon for his manga projects. Of course, you also have to factor in paying everyone he works with, so storyboard artists, line artists, the person who adds the color, and potentially other writers. Makes it difficult to estimate how much he makes
Plus inflation and cost of living in his particular area plus health, car, probably pet insurance then if any personal debts or consumer debt could make that 4000 monthly income run out pretty quick on top of that that depends if webtoon greenlight another season which means that 4k isn’t the base median income
But in seriousness maybe instead promote manaa to him set up an interview or live call and say hey ya know maybe you should push instead of westerners saying they want a manga you can make manaa
I don't think he would've responded. Indie comic dudes always have an ego. When reaching out to them while having small subs, they don't take u seriously.
This should be obvious. It would be as asinine as assuming silent films don't need writers. Also, anyone who was written a manga/webtoon/comic should know that writers have to describe EVERYTHING that happens each panel. Dialogue is only a single aspect, and for these mediums understanding how to make the story beats flow in a pleasing composition is all within the domain of the writer. He also has said he often storyboards his comics
@@YoungPJ405I don't believe that's the case. He doesn't storyboard normally but he didn't just start late last year. He has talked about not being a good artist but still being able to draw rough storyboards for awhile, unless the specific series had a storyboard artist. Of course, I don't have the dates on me, but this is what I remember when I used to watch his videos awhile ago
@@YoungPJ405 Just double checked. I was correct. He even has a RU-vid short from over a year ago where he showed the storyboard he drew and sent to his artist compared to the finished drawing from the artist. Funnily enough, this was the manga he got runner up for in the global Shounen Jump Tezuka competition, and was the series that exploded him in popularity
