If more people could actually care about others instead of just themselves then we could update society but everyone thinks everyone else is wrong.... Super frustrating.
🟢 Ladies and gentlemen! The question is whether we spend that time focused on what pushes us apart? or whether we commit ourselves to an effort -- a sustained effort -- to find common ground?. to focus on the future we seek for our children - and to respect the dignity of all human beings?. It's easier to start wars than to end them. It's easier to blame others than to look inward. It's easier to see what is different about someone than to find the things we share. But we should choose the right path, not just the easy path. There's one rule that lies at the heart of every religion -- that we do unto others as we would have them do unto us. # I thank you.
Yes, that is one of the pillars of morality, "don't do to others what you don't want others to do to you", a very simple quote but hard to commit to. Everything moral is very hard to fully commit to because temptation will be onto you constantly and if you do not understand the importance of the real outcomes that flourish from morality, you are bound to fail. For example : When people commit to certain principles of morality, they expect their life to suddenly change around them and feel entitled to more than someone who doesn't respect any principle at all. Then why respect these principles if they don't do much to improve life around you ? Because it's simply the right thing to do regardless if anyone does the opposite, and you know you did the right thing while the rest, they'll invent all sorts of plausible answers, even legal answers to justify their immoral acts even tho, deep down, they know. " Fear of loss is what keeps morality away and loss of fear is what morality provides. "
It would be nice if you posted the Mikhaila Peterson talk. OR Mention exactly what guidelines she broke. Lets keep Tedx unbiased. There is a lot of veganism talks. Lets have more carnivore talk aswell.
Many people are so beholden to their ideas of morality and uprightness that they become prisoners of it, and tools of those who understand that reality and life are fluid.
Finally a good talk (and no wonder, that what happens when u invite an actual philosopher instead of bunch of guys more or less pertaining to be the representatives of the very branch of philosophy- scientific method...) and not a narrative spewing one like pretty much anything of recent, is it a sign of TED coming back to it's roots of what it put in on the map in the first place? Would've been nice.
There is no morality in nature. Morality is a man-made concept. Bees have no morals; ironically honeybees are adopted by the church as symbols of goodness: hard working, self sacrificing, working together and looking out for each other. They do this not because they love each other, but because it's in the interests of their survival to do this. They have been around for about 60m years longer than us, and are fully evolved, unlike us who are dedicated to self preservation at the same time as destroying the resources we depend on, hurtling towards our extinction driven by moral certainties and an inability to communicate properly
I don't know that we need a whole new tool kit but I will agree we need to add some new tools but we don't have to get rid of every old tool from the past.. Thank you for sharing.
Not really, not saying this is a good or bad Ted Talk but if you base the value of something based on how popular it is we have a lot of learning to do.
Hello, we are from other countries and English is our second language. So there's a bit of a question and we don't understand, how to use "would have been doing"? How do us use these 4 words when they are connected together? For example :1 I would have been wearing my red dress if I had washed it. 2 He would have been working in Dubai if he hadn't taken the job in London. Looking forward to your reply
My brother was murderd in 2014. We never wanted revenge. We just want to know what really happened that night. We just want the truth, so we can move on.
i dont know but probably when you would come to know about what happened , you would just yearn for a little revenge...even if it's not as violent as murder
Sea waves travel continuously till it reaches sea shore, likewise be consistent on your effort towards your goals, put your effort till you reach your success. 😃 Have a nice day 😊
MY GOAL IN MY SPIRIT WALK IS TO BE GREAT AT BEING A GOOD SEED UPON RETURN, I DON'T HAVE TO BE GREAT, AND AT MY BEST I DON'T EXPECT THE GREATNESS FROM OTHERS, JUST BE GOOD. COMMON DECENCY IS GOOD. DOES ANYONE ELSE JUST EXPECT GOODNESS, OR JUST WANT TO BE GREAT AT BEING A GOOD PERSON STILL⁉️ LOL👊‼️RESPECT ✌️🖤
Interesting talk. I would argue thst morality doesn't exist. It's the thing that helps you identify what is good vs what is bad. But things that are now bad used to be considered good, jeopardising the reliability what these words actually mean. I personally believe nothing is good or bad by nature and that behaviours that fall under those categories are taught. Back in the day tribes would kill members for being violent or if they were severely injured because that individual would endanger the whole tribe. There might have been some element of revenge at some point but mostly it was about survival. Infanticide was also a thing when there were too many mouths to feed as a result of building settlements and farming wheat. Again, for survival. I wonder where moral thinking first came into play, maybe through religion? Maybe a result to keep order and avoid new issues when our ancestors created this 'easier' life? Like "you can't kill anyone because we need more hands for farming" or something.

He is correct in most parts except one thing morality is like believes you can't choose them. You just act it out. You can do what you want but you can't choose what you want
yes i heard this, but what about the fact more people are interested on tiktok way more than thinking even a bit about that the man stuttering beside doesnt consciously do it , suffers from it and also feels pain on being teased , but feels insecure to open up about feelings.......changing the view of morality is a distant speck. anyways i had the same thoughts but they were never as provoking as these man said...he broke my confidence on my ideology.
Wow, im shocked to see people that know how to read and write, have pondered morality for the first time because of this video. This is a bit terrifying. I always though people know about it and choose to ignore it but I couldn't imagine so many people that really have no idea about the subject.
Where does one get an objective moral standard without a moral law giver like God for example? Without God, morality is subjective. I know lots of a good people who don’t believe in God and that’s not what I’m saying but how can we know objectively, what is right and wrong for all people without god? Otherwise it’s just based on your own understanding of what is right and wrong and your culture, society, etc. very interesting topic for me
Why did you not allow Mikaela Peterson to speak? You should give her the space to share her thoughts and open the avenue for a very important conversation. Disappointed
Haven’t watched yet, will check back in when I do….but quick question. Too moral for what? For self? Absolutely, for how do we know the light without knowing the dark? For society and the overall whole? While yes we may suffer, we may also breed future progress by our willingness to suffer for the whole. I look forward to watching this later…I will give my 2¢ when done
@@theinfooverload I know I read and yet you still asked pointless rehtorical questions and commentated based on the title. Or do you not remember you CLEARLY doing that?
TEDx please explain why you will not have Mikhaila Peterson talk on your channel ? You will have pro vegan but not pro carnivore. Two faced ????????????
Morality is no matter that you can just give an answer to :D ,you can do whatever you wish, it has no answer, it is a personal choice that has good outcomes but high prices.
Tedx think so, they seem to think they're so moral they feel the need to not post Mikhaila Peterson 's ted talk on how a full meat diet helped improve her life. I guess idea's are only worth spreading at Ted if they fit your political message.
I sounded like this when teachers would ask me for 10,000 words on a subject that I could summerize in 1,000. I saw a question posed as the title but never answered. I just feel like wearing my 3D glasses today.
I believe that the Bible should be our guide, once you step outside of that guide you are just making up rules to suit yourself! That’s the very thing that creates Immorality.
How wonderful! The only category of people that's never mentioned when we talk of our discrimination against someone else, is that of people with disabilities. And you know what? Statistically speaking people with differing abilities are the most discriminated, the most poorly understood, the most jobless... as much so as I would say that society's miss-understandings about what blind people can and cannot do has always been to me more detrimental than my blindness; and I'd always change the former out of the two. Shame! P.S. I'm referring to the first seconds of the video; from the very beginning.
"😔"My father is not having any job" "I want to do something for my father" "But youtube is not giving me views" "ya iam worse than other .And I am 14 year old class 9th ,🥺😭π
It has high stakes, high prices for only self improving means that have nothing to do with income, at times it even stand in your way. People tend to think that if they are moral, they are entitled...that is when they start loosing their self because it's not about that.
No, You Can Never Be TOO MORAL!!!! THE BIBLE SAYS, THAT THE WAY OF THE TRANSGRESSOR, IS HARD, AND IN 2022, WITH STOCK MARKETS GOING UP AND DOWN, AND THE DOLLAR AND THE YEN, BUYING LESS AND LESS, THE WAGES OF SIN IS STILL DEATH!!!
You begin by forgiving the audience for not understanding immorality and then say there is too much moral certainty? You must not know science is an art and not a certainty even if you only believe in evolution…each strawberry is individual and not a collective… just do unto others as you would have done to you…and pray because heaven is real.
