Elden Ring has many many spells. One of the spells of all time is one that Gideon Ofnir is known to use, Law of Causality. The exploding bubble thing. If you ever had a run where you haven't one shot Gideon, you probably hate this spell as if you get caught in the explosion you lose all your health. Turns out when you actually get and use this spell it just straight sucks. You have to get hit 5 times consecutively for an explosion that does like 300 damage... so i decided to be the worlds first person to beat Elden Ring with this awful spell

Here are 3 reasons why Fire Giant is a well designed boss: 1. He is above 5’11. 2. He rolls around in snow and rolling in snow is very wholesome. 3. He has a face on his belly which means he can eat TWICE the amount of food.

You would have needed to cast Casualty 156 times to beat Radagon to kill him. Would have used 8 full fp bars in the process if you only cast Casualty. Elden beast would have been about 500 casts, and you'd have needed to have needed about 23 fp bars to cast it. Its not doable

I think melania would be 100% impossible since she heals when she hits you even if it is blocked with a shield and getting all those casts off while dodging every hit and also having to cast golden epitath and holy ground would be something even LMSH could not do.

@@skomolowski Lmao what are you talking about. Holy is objectively the worst damage type. The only "boss" weak against it is the freaking deathrite bird and it isn't that it suddenly gets bad around the last several bosses, it just goes from being resisted slightly more than every other element to being resisted exponentially more than every other element, to the point of unusability. Its literally the most resisted element objectively, there is no metric where holy is "one of the best" anything lol. It doesn't help that the handful of holy weapons in the game are garbo and all the holy spells, even literal end boss spells are hot garbo too. It's like they tried turning the "dark is the bad guys so holy damage is decent/good" in all the other soul games on its head but went way to far with it. Ironically the best faith weapon is the blasphemous blade lmao

There is scaling, it’s just that the buffs, such as Golden Order seal and Gold Mask’s mask, buff the initial casting of the incantation. The damage when the bubble gets popped is a separate thing and has flat damage

i get that Fromsoft likes their weird scalings and exceptions and stuff, but can they stop making it so half the things you'd expect to scale with a stat or item randomly don't, and those things would be bad either way?

I feel like they purposely broke law of casualty because it could genuinely be a good spell and they can't make holy damage good, that'd be lame or something I dunno why they gimped holy so much.

PvP explains a lot of questionable design choices. They have to be VERY careful about what spells work with which buffs, which work with which items, which work with what ash of war, etc. From has learned the lesson that if there's a broken combo they missed, players will not only find it quickly, but it's ALL they'll ever use online. At least for Causality, they could have done something like Bide from Pokemon, where it keeps track of the damage you take while it's active and does the total damage back when it pops. This way it would scale with your opponents, which would be pretty novel. Maybe have a damage cap based on int/faith if it's too strong.

@@TheKrossRoads i guess instead of going through the hassle of balancing every spell and ability around what buffs you can get, they take the easy way out and make the buffs not affect them. it's still weird how the stuff that doesn't scale is often stuff that is weak to begin with. Law of Causality in this case requires you to get hit 5 times, has a long cast time, your opponent clearly knows about it and even when it procs it has a delay to let them dodge. AND the hits reset after a while. considering how many very powerful options you do have, why do they gimp these random weak incantations that have counterplay.

@@atoucangirlI think Causality is that way because it's needed for a faith quest line, so they made it need int. You can meet the int requirement almost entirely through physic and gear.

I redid the math and it was definitely impossible to beat Radagon and Elden Beast even with talismans and buffs, it's just mathematically not gonna happen I mean skum knew that already but just repeating it here

You're able to block the close stomps because you are getting hit by his foot and not the aoe of the stomp. It does the same damage (I think) but much less stance damage.

This is why at 1:10:00 you could tank the first but not the second. The second has no foot hitbox, just the aoe.

This run reminds me of my first play through in that I wasn’t good with dodging or two handing melee yet so I just kept doing guard counters and upgrading shields and guard boost, I beat malenia using fingerprint shield to block her waterfowl and guard countering some Of her other attacks, I don’t care if she heals from getting shield I was hitting her harder than she healed

It would have been so easy to make this spell pretty good, even without being busted. Give it a damage absorb shield effect for a few seconds. If it breaks, it explodes. If it expires, it does nothing.
