Love this challenge, btw the reason the 2nd guard didn't use potion is because you stole from him- the guado stop auto healing when you "steal" their potions
@@JamSac and another thing you can do aside from stealing the potions is to petrify the guado minions which does not allow them to even boost the main boss before dying (especially useful in the wendigo fight). When I did my NSG I used that strategy a lot :) Furthermore, about Rikku joining so sudden to the team is because she is yuna's cousin since her father is the brother of Yuna's mother. We only discover this when we get to the airship in bikanel and flee to Bevelle. So it is quite odd as you said, but that is what yuna discusses with Lulu and Rikku before asking to be her guardian :)
Regarding the Rikku - Tidus thing, Tidus is canonically 17 years old, meaning two years her senior, so it's not weird, particularly since the game was aimed at a teenage audience. What's more weird is that people as young as them would be off saving the world from a giant monster, but, you know, JRPG.
There were a few fun ways to take care of those guados: - Use a petrify grenade to one shot both guados (guados are weak to stone status). Alternatively, you can hit them with wakka and his T.K.O - Steal from the guados (they stop using auto-potion once you steal their hi-potion)
Fun fact about Anima: in the original north American version (the one without the dark aeons or penance), Anima's Overdrive, Oblivion, only hit once for damage, rather than in this version where each punch of the Overdrive hits for separate damage numbers, leading to Anima actually being stronger in this version than in the base NA version.
I suspect( though I don't know) the damage you see in the original name was the sum of the cumulative attacks, if I recall correctly she could deal damage in excess of 9999 durring overdrive as soon as you get her
Idk if you know this or are keeping it for a reveal in a later part, so a little spoiler warning I guess: Anima is actually a female summon because the fayth is Seymour's mother. Valefor, Shiva and the Magus Sisters are all female too and have female fayth. Btw, I absolutely love that RU-vid recommended this challenge run and your channel to me. Very excited to watch the next parts!
As far as rikku, I think only wakka and tidus didn’t know. Rikku basically discussed it with yuna and lulu, then Auron examines her and immediately knows who she is, then I’m guessing kimahri absolutely doesn’t care who joins lol And of the two who didn’t know, wakka would’ve been the only one I think would’ve questioned her joining.
No Tidus knew who she was because he literally nearly spills beans in a millisecond Wakka: Tidus whos ya friend? Tidus: oh this is riku shes an al beh beh beh behhhhh
@@AngelJimenez-cs4yq "I forgot the guy with cool black overalls and a dope water sword that I've been playing as existed as a character" lmao why you gotta do my boi Tidus like that?
I dont understand some of your story complaints. Even if you don't get the rikku scene with tidus (tidus is only 17 btw I think its a little weird, but the idea that two kids who would both be in high school together might have small crushes doesn't seem unrealistic) its easy to understand from context clues that lulu yuna and rikku went off to talk because yuna knows this is probably her cousin (or at least an al bhed who may know cid) and lulu is the only one in the party who knows yuna is half al bhed. Auron easily picks up on whats really going on from his worldly knowledge (We can say this because he only has to look at her eyes to connect the dots, he knows of al bhed eyes. Something that doesn't seem to be common knowledge based on how others interact with rikku as a guardian), and they all agree rikku can come because he approves of it. Its the same reason tidus was allowed to be a guardian. The only people who'd maybe not understand whats truly happening other than tidus (who actually is capable of inferring literally anything the player does, as you and him basically share the same knowledge) are wakka (who will go along with anything auron says) and kimahri (who doesn't care). We will find out later rikku's attempts to kidnap yuna were to protect her, something the entire party wouldn't have trouble understanding, except tidus who doesn't truly know much yet. Its not really that big of a deal, but I never felt this section of the game didn't make sense or was weirdly paced. Also its crazy (but shows skill) that you've never just stolen the guado potions evidently, I'd never even thought to beat them WITHOUT doing that.
27:14 “I know he’s kinda stupid, but there’s something kinda hot about that. (…) maybe it’s because he wears little tiny short shorts.” you ate here fr
Fun Fact Anima is Seymour's mother. If you want access to this Aeon don't miss a single destruction sphere in the cloister of trials. Then find her Fayth on the map x=11-16, y=57-63.
What makes this challenge interesting is the fact that you're not using tactics from a no sphere grid challenge. That Seymour battle was clutch. I would have just used the Nul spells to prevent any damage since Seymour casts elemental spells in order, but now I learned that he's vulnerable to magic break.
I don't know if you know this but if you can steal Seymour's guards items they won't be able to auto potion or rikuu can throw the petrify grenade to stone both in one move great video I just finished the first on earlier today
The date scene isn't gross. It's a 15 year old girl with a 17 year old boy. That's a pretty normal age gap for that age. And along with that, it was immediately talked about how rikku is Yunas cousin right before she joins.
26:20 there’s absolutely no need to make Rikku and Tidus’ relationship sexual. It’s quite alright for them to have a flirty relationship without pursuing anything, and since one is 15 and the other is 17, they could actually go farther and it wouldn’t be a big deal. Again, no need to assume sexual intercourse, its quite possible to have an intimate relationship with boundaries.
Really happy to see this series return! And with tighter editing this time. It is pretty weird that nobody questions Rikku joining the party, but I figure it's because Auron approves and the others all respect his authority. Also I figure Lulu probably knows about their family relationship. (Wakka seems to be clueless) Btw good to see I'm not the only one disturbed by the way Yuna says "Djose" 😆
on my first playthrough of this game on my switch and I LOVE it. furthest ive gotten in any FF game and I wanna play more of em... gotta beat this one first.
Dona was trying to bully Yuna off her journey. It's a thing of sacrifice. That little aside w/ Rikku wasv Rikku explaining to Yuna that they are cousins.
I thought Dona had an inferiority complex/jealousy since Yuna is famous and receives extra friendly treatment for her being Braska’s daughter. It’s what I inferred whenever she commented “so try standing in your own two feet for once”
I did a less extreme version of this run many years ago when my brother had pirated the International version and modded(?) our PS2 to be able to play it (don't quote me on this; the whole thing was his idea and I don't really know what went into it). I basically ignored Kimahri and swapped Lulu/Yuna, Wakka/Tidus, and Auron/Rikku. Not all that challenging, but it was just for fun. No surprise, Yuna makes an absolute beast of a black mage with her agility in early game, and once you get Steal/Use, the game is pretty much broken, even with Auron's slow speed. I'm loving this take on the challenge. I was curious how it would work, so thanks for sharing it with us!
Not sure if you’re building up for a narrative reveal or if you have missed it, so let me put a spoiler warning here, because it feels like you missed a narrative beat: About Yuna asking Rikku to join the party for „no reason“: There actually is a fairly good reason. It‘s her cousin! It‘s the daughter of Cid. And Yuna‘s mother has told her that she should seek out her uncle, if she‘s ever in trouble. So, when her uncle‘s daughter shows up and tries to help her… it makes sense that she would allow her to tag along. That‘s what the two of them and Lulu talk about when they have their little secret talk that the player couldn‘t hear. Rikku revealed her identity to Yuna, and Yuna and Lulu then probably came to the agreement that it‘s a good thing to have this family member with them, since Yuna‘s uncle was somebody who was supposed to help her in times of crisis anyway.
I just watched part 1 last night, it's great you released part 2 now. Great work on the run, it seemed like it was getting easier until Seymour, there were so many close calls but you managed to get through. Again, I really like how you show the random encounters too. I remember in the old days I'd read about people doing FFX challenge runs on forums and everyone would chat, sometimes people would take pictures of their TV too, but it's so much nicer seeing videos of it, it really makes me want to play the game it was so much fun. I can't wait for the next part!
Rikku joins the party because Yuna is her cousin. There's basically an entire chapter of the story about it when they go talk to cid. You didn't pay attention to the story at all did you? They literally spoon feed it to you.
The fact that he gets Rikku on the bike with him in the ride to Macalania makes me think he DOES know that she's Yuna's cousin, I think he's just confused as to why everyone else is just going along with it. But like Tidus is happy to have Rikku come along because he knows her and she was nice to him and stuff. Auron does not give one shit. Kimahri is just happy if Yuna is happy. And Lulu and Wakka are like 'she gonna die, she needs all the moral support possible'. Not to mention that before, when Donna is like 'my my, what a great party you have', Yuna is like 'so what, I like company'. So even though he, as a player is like ???? why are we all cool with this, I think they did a good enough job with character development for it to not be a big question when it comes up in the story. When I first played it, I went along with it pretty easy, but upon replaying it (multiple times) she does feel a little bit shoehorned in, especially considering they wanted there to be a 'romance choice' thing going on in early development. (Don't ask me where I learned that, I don't remember - it is hinted at with some of the dialogue choices in the middle of the story) But overall, even with the awkward introduction, I think she adds enough to the story to justify being there. (Also she's a straight-up badass in the sequel)
Echoing another comment, Cheer and Focus cap at 5 stacks, and provide 5 Strength/Magic and 33.3% Physical/Magic damage reduction at full stacks, respectively.
I had no idea that snowmobile part you could end up talking to different characters, I always ended up with Lulu, which I also thought was weird in general, still learning new things about my favorite final fantasy lol.
Both the person who throws the blitz ball for Blitz Ace and the snowmobile ride are based on the hidden loyalty scores the game has for Yuna/Lulu/Rikku so if you ever want to know who you earned the most respect from you can use that too
You know when would be a great time to guard? Right before the big mana beam. Or Defend when Anima decides to beat you down with their bare hands. (You go for offense, but Defend command exists.) For the record, Haste+Anti-Element spells works wonders for cheap, as he cycles his magic. That means once set up nothing will kill you. Anit-Element is just good in general against enemies that use elemental magic.
Thanks for the upload! I’m loving the challenge run so far, you narrate perfectly too- just enough and not to much and well paced editing. Thank you again for the interesting FFX content 😊 🏴🏴🏴
That's really interesting! I actually never knew Seymour was susceptible to Magic Break, definitely utilizing that in my next playthrough for sure. Keep up the great work!!
I once signed Kyou to my team for no reason other than the fact I'd recently learned the Japanese for dinosaur was kyouryuu. It's the simple things in life.
Yuna: “you’re al bhed? Do you know Cid?” Rikku: “he’s my father” Yuna: “he’s my uncle!😱” Never understood why it’s so hard for people to imagine that conversation. And the reason people reacted that way about Tidus, is because they know she’s into him. “Love is the death of duty”
Ffx is my all time favourite game, I remember playing and getting Seymour for that one battle and I always wished he could be added to the party hahaha, Lulu was always my favourite so it’s cool to see her in a physical role 🤣
Mostly leaving this comment to build your engagement but to answer some of your questions from last vid and this one SPOILERS: The fiends in Luca are summoned by the guado because Seymour told them to so he could save the day. Rikku joins the party because she wants to help Yuna since they are cousins. During their chat on the moonflow I'm pretty sure they share that info with eachother since Yuna asks about Cid the last time they interact with al bhed too it stands to reason she would ask Rikku if she knows Cid and Cid is Rikkus father. Hope that clears some things up idk if you already knew and are just makin jokes. Loving the videos and the challenge run overall!
Focus is +1 Mag per use, stacks up to 5 times and can raise to up to 260 mag (255 normally being the cap), defensively it only stacks 5 times reducing damage by 1/15 per cast up to 5/15. Cheer is the same but for Str and Physical damage.
4:00 Dona dislikes Yuna because Yuna has a famous father and since her childhood got always a special treatment because of that, while Dona herself had to work since her childhood and make many sacrifices to get to the Stage where she is at. That is also why she or rather her Guardian throws Tidus in to the first Temple. To make Yuna invulantary break the rules and get her in trouble, because she deems Yuna not able to deal with stress and trouble due to Yuna getting what she needed always without any trouble or sacrifices. She opens up later in the story and tells you way more about her journey and why she is like she is.
On the topic of lightning dodges, Shoop (RideZeShoopuf) on Twitch uses what she refers to as the "crater trick" and in around an hour, she was over 300 and it was running from 1 specific lightning tower to a crater and back again. On the topic of Anima, I wonder how many people here on RU-vid are triggered that you kept calling Anima "he" when it is Seymour's mother.
The 2nd fight with Seymour was memorable bcz I fucking hated that guy and I got another shot at killing him. Yunalesca was the first to make me ragequit from the game as a 10 year old who couldn't come up with a strat for the zombie status effect and not dying after every revive. Anima was just dope every time he was on the screen so much so that I wanted him as my summon. The intro music, rejecting the norm of spira and summoners, and the big boy monsters were a great time even though I never beat the game
Cheer/focus/aim/etc. All max out after 5 casts. Also for the Seymour fight, if you steal from the guados, they lose their auto potion ability and can't heal every attack for 1000 hp.
As far as I can tell, not anymore. Get the remastered version; you can TANK battles in the early game with cheer. I overkilled EVERYTHING in Besaid and Kilika by spamming focus and cheer.
@@jakeking3859 all stat boosting abilities max out at 5 stacks. They cannot be stacked any higher. Yes, you will notice a huge difference, especially in the early game (I personally use cheer to farm sin scales on turbo mode during the sin boss fight on the ship for easy early game levels) however, the 6th time you use cheer, it is no longer adding further to your boost. Again, the max that any ability like cheer, focus, reflex, etc. Can stack is 5 times.
@@mrjoecharles I'd have to check it again, maybe I was just getting more crits, but I've been playing the remastered recently and after at least six, maybe even seven, if my first attack on them didn't go to an overkill, I'd do another few and try again, and overkill it every time. It used to be, in the vanilla PS2 game, that a note would come up the top saying 'it's not effective anymore' or something like that, but I've yet to encounter the same message in remastered.
@@jakeking3859 Its coincidence, or confirmation bias then lol. I assure you it caps at 5 stacks. And overkill is just a threshold of damage (usually 150% of an enemies max health, though it's different for bosses and late-game enemies due to the damage cap) that when met, gives an overkill. You were probably just getting crits or just lucky.
There is actually a chance of surviving pain from Anima. Tho it is only around 1% I believe and the magic beam can be halved bei shell and further weakened by focus. Also u you can use all stat techs 5 times (cheer, focus, jinx etc.). After the 5.time they won't further increase your stats. This way it is actually possible to have 260 attack + magic attack and 260 defense + magic defense although you never see it in the stats menu.
YAAAAAAAAAAAS! I forgot who was supposed to be who? Can you put the swapped roles in the description for future vids please! Dona is and will always be that girl tho! And her himbo husband Barthello. She won!
Loving the vids and the challenge and your hilarious commentary but I did want to mention that Anima is a she because SPOILERS….. It’s actually Seymour’s mother. You find this out when you go back to Baaj temple to acquire her aeon and you learn the whole backstory of when he was a kid and the two of them went on the pilgrimage and she offered to be his final aeon to defeat Sin but he never went through with it.
Anima is also a feminine noun (the masculine version being 'animus'), deriving from the latin word for spirit. It also has connotations in Jungian archetypal psychology which is presumably why she was named as such.
Loving this challenge so far! Both on your end and mine! Atm as speaking rn. Kimahri made it to Rikku’s Grid. Auron and Tidus have been going slowly through theirs. Wakka been benched lmao. But gonna use him when get the usual stone touch. As for Yuna and Lulu, they doing good. Loving the challenge variant on your end def! Very hyped to see how it’ll go from here on past Seymour!! I’ve yet to hit Rikku rn. At Mushroom Rock
27:08 while i’m okay with the character of rikku, from a gameplay perspective she’s really fun, but definitely the weakest part of the storyline is her joining the party. it’s like that was the last scene they programmed or something and just wanted to get it done lol
About how Yuna pronounces Djose. It was weird to me, but the reason she says it like that is because she wants to use a happy and cheery tone. Its supposed to be playful because yuna tries to smile when she is sad.
Next time you are dodging lightning it might help to know that there is a tower and crater off to the left at the start of the thunder plains. Running from the tower to the crater triggers a lightning strike every time. You are able to do the 200 challenge in less than 30 min if you don't mess up.
It's interesting because it creates a difficulty parabola. Eventually, everything will even out and it will play rather normal, but everything since Mi'hen highroad has been a huge spike. I'm wondering when you'll start to see the difficulty tilt back to normal.
I think Tidus is actually an ideal bf, at least to Yuna, especially as he develops through the story. But also it’s so awkward how you can say one flirty line to the girls toward the beginning and from then on they might end up hitting on him through the game and he’s just like giving nothing back lol. Like why did they do this.
I have a question about the guado's! For the longest time I thought they stopped healing when you steal from them! That's at least what my dad taught me. . . Meanwhile I just used Kimari's stone breath and they were gone on turn one. . . Yes, I know, you're not using Overdrives in this challenge, but I still like to put it here, the fight gets trivial if you use stone attacks on them. I think you can get some stone weapons by farming Obelisks right after the disaster of the Machina war, if I am not wrong, I didn't play the game in a couple of years and know what I will do to correct that soon. See if there aren't obelisks that drop stone weapons for you to use on those two guado's and make your life so much easier. Even if they don't drop weapons directly, you should have Rikku (or Auron in that case) to steal from them and craft yourself a stone strike weapon, just so you can immediately delete those two Guado's and have your focus on Seymour immediately. Edit: I remembered that Rikku doesn't join until you're a bit further, but you still could farm for the drops either way. It will be painful, but stone guard and stone attack is very useful in this game. (The latter one not as much, aside from that one Seymour fight and a few random encounters, but yeah. It should work.)
No one in the community uses Kyou as a goalie. For official goal keepers use the following: Yuma Guado Miyu Durren Jumal Noy Guado Zamzi Ronso Nimrook Nizarut Raudy Keepa
