How in the world do they breath underwater though? The Ture Question. And it's not even a case of Blitzball and scuba equipment, Kiss scene has Yuna being just fine too.
@@tricmagic i think that's honestly boiled down to "bc Final Fantasy", as cop out of an answer as that is. Many of the FF games, set in different worlds have their own share of odd logic we just quietly accept for the purpose of story telling. In my mind, the people in Spira have really good breath-holding skills!
Am i the only one who enjoyed blitzball? I played it not because i felt obliged to get Wakka's weapon and atk reels, but because i actually genuinely liked this mini-game. Am i strange?
I’ll be honest I loved it as a kid! Running around Spira trying out different players and finding the best ones was super enjoyable for me. But now, playing it now as an adult, it’s sooooo repetitive and super easy once you understand the game
@@JamSac it's understandable actually. I played the game first time when i was 16 or so (i'm pretty old, yeah), replayed it several times during past 20 years, and maybe i don't grind blitzball like i used to in my first playthrough (i remember i had there characters at lvl75 or higher), but it is still fun for me. I just think people hate it too much, especially lately. A bit undeserved on my opinion. It's not such a horrible mini-game like most people think. There're even worse cases.
@@atomicgrave4340 there’s enough interesting mechanics and cool/fun RPG elements in it to warrant it a pretty awesome mini game in my opinion. It’s just the difficulty and repetitiveness that needs adjusting Would love to see a mod where someone fixes all of those issues and makes it actually challenging to play
@@JamSac yeah, seeing some mod would be nice, but because the game isn't popular enough i doubt we will see one. And that's the sad part actually. I watched enough of reviews and none of those reviewers say anything positive about the game. Mostly because of mandatory part in the story where it's very hard to win. Plus the tutorial part is hella confusing for the firstcomers (i actually didn't really pay attention to it and learned everything from the first-hand experience). I understand that all well, but it's still sad that people not only suggest but kinda demand new players to skip the mini-game altogether without paying it any attention because it's bad on their opinion. Such position always frustrated me, such injustice, but oh well...
I love the irony of everyone having really high catch, but really low block. Really fun challenge. I personally have never done blitzball without recruiting Brother first. You put Brother in mid-field, and you will annihilate everyone.
Kyou rhymes with though. I originally signed him because I'd just learned that the Japanese word for dinosaur was "kyouryuu" and I knew it had to happen.
He doesn't start getting shot til like level 80 or 90 something too. So it's really low then starts jumping like dozens of points over a few levels iirc. The ultimate sleeper pick in the draft!
I like to imagine that Keepa was the kid that was always picked last and made the default goalie, but then you finally give him a chance to play and he's actually a really good player.
Honestly man, brilliant video!! Loved it. Loved the whole job swap series so far to be honest. Love the honesty early on about not being into spots as well, made it all the better for me. I'm a huge football fan, season ticket holder at my local team etc, and Final Fantasy is easily my favourite franchise. Been playing since late 90's. Just goes to show you don't need to like sports to love Blitzball baybee!
Blitzball Math Roll an 11 sided dice with face values being a multiplier of 0.5 to 1.5, in .1 increments. Roll that die for each stat every time stats are being compared. AT = 10 EN = 12 AT rolls a 1.2 so actually attacks with a 12 instead of a 10. END rolls a 0.7, so 8.4 even if rounded up is 9 (unsure which way they round). So AT wins, (9-12) < or = 0 This applies to all stat matchups, SH vs BL and CA PA vs BL AT vs EN
I feel kinda offended and personally attacked. Why, you ask? "Who plays bitzball to lvl 99?" Well...I did. I was young, I was impressionable and I was in fucking love with blitzball (I had a phase where I didn't play FFX at all. just blitzball). Maxed out the whole team to lvl 99 (btw. I had Kyou in my Team too, and I loved him. He is by far the best). Got all the strong players. Owned the league. And then got bored as there is just no challange left. With a few good players you eventually start to win match after match. You then level pretty fast. And when your first player hits lvl 99, the enemy teams players will only have reached about lvl 50 (iirc). So tbh - there's actually no challange left and no benefit for maxing out your players. It's just for the sake of having it done. (just for the record - when I said I feel offended and personally attacked - that was irony. I was just kidding)
the sad part is, keepa at lvl 99 is the best all around player in the game. 99 sht, 99 cat, like 72 end, insane hp. but he is just sooooo bad until late 60s
FYI, in Japanese the name isn't very weird soundwise. In Japanese a u is used to prolong the o sound in many words. famous examples of this is both the names of the cities kyoto and tokyo. If the japanese spelling would be translated directly they would be spelled kyouto and toukyou. The Japanese pronounciation is is pretty much to double the length of the o sound.
I kept wondering why none of the other GKs were being let go Then I remembered I boarded every other GK in Spira so they’d have no one to replace them with Oops 😬
i love this video!! your narration of the games is so funny and as someone who actually enjoyed playing it in ffx i was enjoying the espn style commentary lol
After a few times recruiting everyone in Spira, my preferred way to play blitzball is by using as many of the original Aurochs as possible, including Wakka who can be recruited off the airship. Except I can't deal with Keepa. He gets replaced by Miyu. She may start with lower CA than some of the others, but she already comes with Anti-Nap, Anti-Wither and Anti-Venom. And you can teach her Grip Gloves and Super Goalie almost immediately. She's awesome.
@@IronBahamut Usually yes, but since most of the Superbosses don't care much about Magic or absorb everything thst isn't physical, there's a chance for the challenge to still go on somewhat and depending on who is picked for the final team, might even become harder
It always amused me that the story builds the Luca Goers up as the best team in the league, then you actually play the mini-game and find out how very not true that is.
Awesome Video!!! Still find myself replaying this game more than any. My favorite player was Linna with her Nap Shot 3 and Golden Arm combo. Sinking Half court shots like the Al Bhed Steph Curry. 😂 Thank you for suffering with the Goalies Only Run so I didn't have to. ❤
It's me personally but if I was having dead weight at RT, I would have put Keepa or Yuma there, depending on how much you value the 6 speed difference. LF Miyu RF Yuma MF Kyou LD Keepa RD Durren GK Jumal This is to stack the odds in your favor, as Jumal is the BEST goalie from the ones you have available through free agency. It won't help you win, but it will help you NOT lose. Also Yuma is a woman, she's one of the two goalie's that's female.
Like #100 here! :D (Never had it happen, thought it was nifty haha) Anyway, just starting the vid, super hyped! I used to love watching my older brother play blitzball games and we'd always joke about silly team compositions, I'm about to send him this video so we can discuss it later once he's free. Thank you again for this series of uploads, it's been brightening my days and I started playing FFX again for the dozenth time. xD Will we be seeing anything from X-2 in the future? Just wondering, love your work!
3:08 wondering how you pronounce that , (Kyou) is common enough in Japanese speech so when playing JRPGs and this comes up, just think of Japanese pronunciations.
I know this a weird bit of knowledge, but I had the strategy guide for this and in the blitzball chapter they listed that Keepa actually levels up to 99 shot.
Almost certainly you will have an army of people telling you this, but if your joke about Kyou’s unpronounceable name is genuine confusion, you should know that it’s just a normal Japanese name! And in fact, Japanese names are really easy to pronounce once you know them, because once you know how to pronounce a letter or syllable in Japanese, you know how to pronounce it when you see it in any another place, because Japanese is pronounced consistently, unlike English! Ou is always a long O, as in “Oh.” and ky is pronounced “key”, but fast. So, kee-yoh! But together. Oh god I hope I got that right and don’t find out that I’ve been understanding Japanese wrong my whole life.
Its crazy to see so many challenges recently on this old gem of a game I didnt realise people could push their limits much more for things like this honestly I couldnt even push my limits to grab the rest of the celestial weapons and all the super bosses I only did up to dark dark shiva and even that was enough for me heck I never even won one blitzball god only knows how to do that shit
I used to love playing blitzball back in the day. I had a save file dedicated solely to playing blitzball. I never reached full level 99s in the league, I never did anything cheesy to grind levels like pass the ball for the whole game. But I did get a few players to high 80s through just playing normally. All the nap techniques are OP. My opening for every game was to swim around and gather as many defenders as possible than use nap pass to put as many to sleep as possible then attack from there. I used drain tackle on defense to gain back hp to use as many nap passes as possible on offense.
Wait the Albed Psyches are good? The same team that had so little confidence in themselves that they decided that kidnapping a summoner would be easier then beating a team who hadn't won a game in 20 years? Why?
Okay okay hear me out. Can you beat a league with the base aurochs? No recruiting just the og team all the way. I'm not super familiar with blitzballs mechanics as i haven't played ff10 since i was 8. So it might not be that bad. But I'm curious.
Is my game bugged? lmao I get the ball the first blitzoff of each half but literally not a single time other than that. Every single time after the first is the enemy team.
@@JamSac Oh... well at least I know Im doing something right, then! lmao Even at level 20 tho Gazna Ronso can bite me cause I swear to god just let go of the ball PLEASE
The explanation around 20:00 is completely wrong. Catch (and tackle) work within a 50% to 150% range of their value, but with a caveat. So, if you have 10 Catch, you will FOR SURE catch a shot of 5 or weaker. However, for some reason you can only go up to 14, not 15. Block is the exception, as it could go up to 15, but the formula for tackles and catch is basically FLOOR(value x (random 0.5~1.499999)) Also, I don't know why you keep dribbling after attempting breakthroughs when your main objective is to put the goalkeeper to sleep. Just shoot from a distance instead of risking to lose the ball on your next break.
