Hi, it was drummed into you when I went to school. All the times tables from 2 to 12 were on the classroom wall, and each day, our teacher picked one, and the whole class repeated it. So yes, I could do that as quickly as all the people you asked. By the way, I live in Scotland, and my teachers name was Mrs Buchan

From 1 through to 9 I had to memorize the multiplication tables in elementary school, so it was easy. The dude with the pink wig, he is on a different level. I could get there but not as fast as he did.

The reason why Asian people are so good at math us because they memorize it and practice it everyday from a young age, its the same with Jamaican kids that come from disciplined and studious families.

I'm American, and I know all of my math tables. However, I probably know them because I did practice them everyday. I don't think it matters what race one is or where they are from, anyone can succeed in math if they stay dedicated and try hard.😄

Impressive. In Canada and the USA kids leave school with very few math or even basic arithmetic skills. Without their phones they can barely function at times. That is my take anyway. I am sure others may disagree.

This is why homeschooling is the best way to learn. Homeschooling allows one on one time with students. Since I am homeschooled, I know all of these math problems, and I don't even have to use a calculator barely in algebra.😂

It isn't even math, it's just arithmetic. And trivial, even for an old fellow who was taught in America's supposedly weak public schools.

I only just recently learned the trick that you can do with your hands for the nines. Hold out both hands (palms facing outwards), and mentally label them one through ten (left pinky is one, ending with right pinky ten). Hold down the number you want to multiply by nine. The number of digits to the left of that finger is your tens column, the number to the right is the ones column. Nine times one (left pinky); zero to the left of the held finger, nine to the right; which gives you 0-9, 9. Nine times three (left middle); two digits to the left, seven to the right, 2-7, 27 Nine times ten (right pinky); nine digits to the left, zero to the right, 9-0, 90. Obviously, you can also do it with your hands facing the other way, just keep the left to right order of the numbers the same. It’s probably faster to just memorize them, but it’s a fun party trick.

Single digit multiplications are quite simple to use and remember. US and Canadian kid doesn't need these quick math as the more advance math doesn't require these kind of math speed.

Learning the multiplication tables was a thing for me too. But I forgot a lot of it or it takes me longer than during my school time. I actually don’t need to use mathematics verstopften in my job, at least not to a degree were I feel I need to touch up my knowledge about it. If you don’t need to use multiplication on a daily basis you can easily forget what you learned before. I could answer the questions BUT most of them took me longer than the Japanese in this video

These are simple multiplication tables. My generation was drilled on them in early grade school. I do admit my teachers never drilled us beyond about 12 x 12 (which is 144). With that said, my older brother was always really good at doing addition, subtraction and multiplication of longer strings of digits in his head. Regardless, this is just rote memorization. It's more important to understand the principals behind the math than it is to memorize something a calculator or computer can spit out in a few microseconds.

it’s really just a matter of practice more than hard thinking. These days people use their phones as a mental crutch and therefore don’t bother memorizing anything. It makes peoples’ brains weak. It’s really. It not that hard to learn times tables up to 12. Beyond that it is often quite unnecessary. I used to work in a lab for a long time. And just because of everyday practice I could mentally do logarithmic calculations, powers of ten, square roots, percentages, and division very easily in my brain. It’s just like lifting weights but for your brain. It doesn’t require tons of intellect, just a lot of use to get strong.

The impact of language on learning mathematics is very interesting. The way they are using sounds to memorize tables. I just calculate. Unless it's something so repeated that it doesn't need calculations. All mental of course. For me the language for learning maths is english, even though I'm indian.

All the questions were a piece of cake for me. The simple arithmetic one does from memory (most people accomplish this using flash cards). The more complex questions, like 34 times 9 is also easy. One simply takes 34 times 10 equal to 340 and mentally subtracts 34 from 340 to get 306. This can take less than a second. I once had an advanced calculus teacher who could multiply two three-digit numbers together (like 546 times 249) and get the answer (135594) in under 2 seconds. I was impressed.

think I'm clean on up to 9, no problem. But the guy solving stuff like 81x 9 in a second is a bit beyond my scope. Also interesting, based on what the pig-tailed girl said, apparently it is universal to make kids memorize rather than understand how to do per se.

In 5th class I could do that all faster. Up to 20x20 we learned. I quickly de-learned that after we could (and had to) use calculators in 8th I think. In 10th I was down to 12x12 and now I struggle with some of the single digits 😅

The long anticipated math video! I'm not good at arithmetic, so no. I wouldn't have been able to answer some of them that fast. I recall seeing a multiplication table up to 12 times 12 in a text book when I was very young, but I don't think we were ever told to memorize it.
