Bison: "Torchpods are one of the most underutilised slinger ammos" Me, shooting torch pods left and right in every quest: FINALLY someone who understands me!
Yes they do!! The game is even kind enough to give you torch pods in EVERY rotten Vale campsite lol It only works against map efluviam, and it doesn't work like a nulberry. If you're AFFILIATED with efluviam you still need a berry, but the torch pods disperses MAP efluviam and creates a safe space for you to walk around in
@@Bison-StorytimeBack when i started one of my first maxed charmed was the purification one (no nulberries needed). And for effluvium, i like to play with glider and assassin mantle. Mantles make you immune against effluvium and you can switch between those 2 for 100% uptime. I still do hunts without those and use torch pods (temporal and rocksteady free wall bangs are nice too).
@@Bison-Storytime so if I had to describe it in stupid terms... it's like igniting a flamable gas. You get rid of the gas quickly, but it will not help you if you already inhaled the poison.
Another great use for torch pods is attracting bugs, if you ever need to farm Hornetaurs or Vespoids, they will just walk/fly right into the fire, killing themselves and not destroying their carcasses.
This is what 6 years of mhw challenge's has led to; the epitome of all challenges. Not even having to play and letting the palicoe have the glory they deserve
Well actually Iceborne Palicoes can kill anything in a matter of seconds, even if it is because of an unintended interaction by the devs, which is the same as for gunlance. It was discovered really late and will certainly never be patched. So if you take this exploit into account the two best hunt tactics are GL and Cats ^^.
I'd like to add a piece of knowledge about palicoes gadgets. -The shield second ability actually does good damage because every attack the monster does will proc a counter attack and that can be alot of hits in a short time. -Plunderblade is better for damage than Flashfly, even if not as flashy than a mine on the ground. All three of its abilities does damage, especially the third. -Of course Meowlotov does more damage but if you want to use the utility of those, knowing that they do bring damage can convince to try them out. -If you want to try Palico only hunts, use the whistle for an ability just after your cat did it by himself for cooldown purposes (leading in faster quests). -And finally you can kill Fatalis in seconds with Meowcano thanks to a little exploit found rather recently by speedrunners. I'll let you search more by yourself. Oh and nice video Bison.😉
This was an interesting idea but I feel like banning bombs but allowing poison smoke bombs is pretty weird considering they do more damage. I think giving the palico a poison weapon would've been more in the spirit of the challenge.
Very fair. It was something I waited until the final boss to use at least, and there's definitely an argument that using them shouldn't have been allowed, but I allowed myself to use it since the spirit of the run was too use little used and oft forgotten mechanics I would have preferred how to use poisoned meat, something I did occasionally use in this run. But Xeno doesn't eat anything.
Nice! As a beginner with only like 200h play time I felt I learned a lot from watching your challenge. Seems I've underestimated how useful palico/tailriders and enviromental can be. 😊
I was surprised how late poison smoke bombs showed up in your run. Was my first thought about how most of the damage would be done once available. I'm not sure the ingredients are available in the portion of the map you have before the forest fully opens up. Nice work, seems like a worthwhile task to engage in over hours and hours ;-). No shade, seriously impressive.
18:22 yep.... had that happen too when i first started iceborn. It was hell and painful and Beotodus was already limping when i got the prompt that it was leaving. And it did and I was so annoyed.
This might be more intuitive in Rise since the Palamute attacks whenever you attack, even if you're not hitting anything. I think riding on it to control its attacks directly would count as hitting the monster yourself.
Its entirely anecdotal, but I see more status infliction from my palico when i have them on Plunderblade than i do on any other Tool. No doubt the Boom Trap and later the Explosive tool from the Elder's Recess can output more damage, but the Plunderblade is probably a close second for weapon based damage.
I'm so glad I bought this game , I finally made it to rank 29 and have iceborne but I don't know how to get to iceborne . I killed all the elder dragons I think . But also im still having fun . If you beat this with just a cat given how big the health pool is you've earned my sub . I can't wait to see how this plays out .
I couldn't believe how much more useful the cats are in this game. Those little shitters used to just fall asleep in the middle of battle, and you'd have to kick them in the butt to get them back into gear, and even then they might just go right back to sleep while you have Fatalis breathing fire down your neck.
of course! that would have made my jagras much much easier too XD. I just felt like inheriting my inner souls-player and bashing my head against the wall brute force until it worked :D
11:28 Everything you need to make capture items are in the ancient forest. Just buy 1 trap tool and grab a thunder bug to make a shock trap. Then you just get parashrooms and sleep herbs for a couple tranq bombs.
Here to say... if you will do Iceborne... Goodluck with Alatreon, because unless you pull up with a shield (and a decently equipped palico) you don't stand a chance, because Alatreon in normal gameplay is a road block... in this challenge he'll be a god damn titanium wall.
@@Bison-Storytime Pukei Pukei can be cheesed like Xeno'jiiva with poison smokes... somewhat. Barioth might be next to impossible like you say... Poison can do some work but it's weaker the Coral pukei and the best weapon you can get this early into iceborne is... **Checks what it is in game assuming you still use ranged damage scaling as the main damage dealer** oh dear... the best early master mode choices are... 3 event limited (Kulve taroth, Felyne rose basket+, snow cat bell+) and few I don't even know if you care reliably farm... (Artian set which would probably require Good RNG from Tailraider Safari, Master Rathian,Anja and Lumu)
@@mrmechpunch4653 I'm actually using the rose basket already so got that covered lol. The biggest issue with coral (I'm also struggling with nightshade but ESPECIALLY coral) is that there are next to ZERO environmental traps I can use in the Highlands, and this'll only become a bigger issue when I hit things like odogaron and namielle
@@mrmechpunch4653 it plays zero part in my strategy whatsoever. the ONLY benefit your palico can directly gain from food is HP, which is always a fixed amount of +20 as long as you use fresh ingredients. there are zero food buffs that apply any kind of benefit to the palicoes either, so its really just for the HP and stamina
Bruh, what do you mean you don't have the materials for tranq bombs, you can find parashrooms and sleep herbs on every map. Also, funny with Zorah, yeah, you don't have to do anything until the guns. Nergigante just leaves after a time. The only benefit to destroying the cores is that it gives you time to drop stalactites on him.
I wanted to make a joke about me being bad at the game therefore "never" hitting the monsters but it doesn't quite work... It was "me, who's bad at the game: i see this as an absolute win!" But it can't be an absolute win because not only is this challenge way harder than a regular playthrough but also I'm too bad to beat the game in the first place! I mean, i assume i am... I haven't actually played world, i only played old gen games mhfu, mhp3rd and mh4u, can't beat high rank in any of them for the life of me. Really wish i could fight gogmazios from mh4u but i can't even reach that part of the game, let alone beat it... Lol, and I've been periodically playing those for at least 6 years now
While I doubt that this would be possible for IB, this was a nice watch, tho I think the run would benefit from you streaming the runs on twitch or something to make it more interactive and also legitimize some of the strategies
The biggest thing stopping me from streaming is that I simply don't think I have the social energy or personality to make a good streamer. I can write, play, film, and edit, and that's what I've done so far, but I just don't think I would be a good streamer
@@Bison-Storytime np dude, you can just do videos like this and maybe in the future if you think differently, you can try. I only realized that most challenges I saw that are kind of similar were from twitch streamers, who did a challenge and then summarized it in such a video
@@Siscon92 I do get a lot in inspiration from those kinds of videos, that's what dark side does for their challenges too I'd say my biggest inspiration is a channel called the backlogs, who like me don't stream and script and edit everything I feel like a video based around streams as well needs to incorporate more of the live comedy aspect even in the video editing, and things like the boom boom boom joke wouldn't fit as well. That's just me though It's not that I haven't tried streaming either. It's that experience that's made me think I'm probably not great at streaming
If i remember correctly the Gajalaka and Boaboa only needs the monsters near their proximity of the traps, no need to mount them i think. The Gajalakas are the best in this, they like deal 1000 damage in total of the firing squad
@@TheDreamAnimus haven is pretty close to a perfect soundtrack. there are a lot of games with bangers in their soundtracks, even better than havens bangers. but haven's soundtrack is INCREDIBLY consistent in how perfect each song is. I can only name 2 soundtracks I think are more consistently on point, and those are Risk of Rain 2 and Kingdom 2 crowns. Kingdom 2 crowns in particular is my vote for best OST of all time in consistency
i don't think what you said about poison duration up is correct, unless doubling only applies to xeno jiva. according to my testing on Great jagras it only adds a couple ticks
it might just be for xeno but i doubt it, and i know for sure it is double duration. i got the idea from team darkside's no damage run video where they do something similar
the dog makes zero difference. its just an uber from one zone to the other. it has ABYZMAL damage and is outclassed in every which way by the palicos that said, you can instead opt to have 2 palicos in general, rise is easier due to every weapon attaining counters and playing like they are longsword. however, I find that hunts in rise take a long time and are quite exhausting because all the monsters have giant HP pools to account for the LARGE variety of attack boosting skills... which unfortunately makes the build variety a little worse I feel as there seems like a MUCH bigger damage discrepancy between tank and damage builds than other games
@@Bison-Storytime I kinda assumed all the tools might be useful, tho idk I never paid much attention to them, just gave them poison and para weapons and forgot about them
-_- okay you def get points for referencing that little funny situation lol but still!!! feel free to believe it or disbelieve it. i did this for me and for fun
hey im at the first zora magdaros bid and even if your cat wasnt there it would have been no sweat: you can ignore nergy entirely to no consequence. thats what i always do: ignore the thorny dragon and bonk lava stones.
it is on a technical aspect, but I view it more as a puzzle while im playing. I would be lieing if I said that the primary reason I didn't stream it was so that i could listen to podcasts to entertain myself though lol
