Today, we're finally back and attempting to answer the question, "Can you beat Pokémon Emerald using the exact team that Ash used for every major battle?"
Ash Ketchum doesn't always make the best choices regarding team selection but he almost never fails to pick up wins. How well can you do using the exact Pokémon he used for every battle in Hoenn? Thanks, as always, for watching!

So, I didn't see Ash do any of the Battle Frontier in the anime (I took a break from watching it around the third gen and picked it back up on the fourth) so all I could think was... "Damn, no one tell Paul that Ash beat Brandon with a Bulbasaur and a Squirtle on his team. That'd probably just break him."

to be fair, that bulbasaur is skilled enough to be the "man in charge" in oak's lab that keeps the peace among all those pokemon. and squirtle is a firefighter. so they are really beefy under anime logic and rules. athough that would still break paul given he tried to use underevolved pokemon (Lairon) and lost badly. during all of ash's battles (even during the one he was possesed) he still gave a very good fight ironically enough, during that battle, ash lost his usual ace (charizard) quickly

You gave Snorlax the wrong move set, he’s supposed to know 6 moves, if it didn’t let you, you caught the wrong Snorlax. Also, in order to activate Thunder Armor, you need to use Thunder on yourself then Swellow, it also helps if your Swellow has the correct ability and nature

Honestly, Ash's Swellow was so unusually strong that I wouldn't have been opposed to you using some manipulation to get high IVs for it. It's just that hardy. It took *multiple* Thunderbolts from Pikachu and *still* wouldn't faint, and that was before Ash even caught it. Good call on the Light Ball for Wattson, though I wish you'd bred the Hoenn Pikachu to have Volt Tackle.

Tbf, Pikachu didn't have Volt Tackle until the Battle Frontier saga. Though it probably could've helped against Regice by dealing just a bit more damage to make sure flamethrower's able to finish it off.

@@jaychow2414 He's been doing really well so far with not using moves Ash's Pokemon hadn't used yet, even if those moves were technically known by his in-game equivalents. It'd just take up a moveslot for a while. That slot was taken up by Thunder before Pikachu used Volt Tackle, which Ash hardly ever used anyway.

@@trumpeterjen He actually used Thunder quite a bit, so your point doesn't stand too well. Plus, he wanted anime accurate movesets anyway, so the Pikachu would have had Thunder until the Battle Frontier. Overall, doesn't make too much of a difference, because I would argue that Ash doesn't use Volt Tackle as much. Only in the last few Frontier Brains did he start using it because that's when Pikachu learned it. He uses it frequently in the next few series, but in this one not as much because of how late it was.

@@jaychow2414 No, I mean that *Ash* didn't use Thunder that often. It was mostly redundant because Thunderbolt has always been Pikachu's bread and butter in the anime, and Volt Tackle was a pretty noticeable weapon in Pikachu's arsenal. Either way, I hope he adds it for the next region. Sinnoh Pikachu wouldn't be himself without the Thunderbolt-Quick Attack-Iron Tail-Volt Tackle moveset. It's my favorite combination of the ones Pikachu has had.

@@trumpeterjen I did mean that Ash used it often. Yes I agree it was redundant but Ash still used it often. And he will definitely go for that moveset, because the change between thunder and volt tackle is more noticable in Sinnoh than in Hoenn, because like I said, it was very late in the series when he learned it, and the Battle Frontier is so tough that I don't think anyone wants to have the pleasure of breeding a Pikachu with Volt Tackle just so it could be slightly more useful if not more of the same because of the 2 moves' identical power.

I commend you for making it through 4 of the 5 battle island challenges with less than stellar pokemon. I remember how much I struggled with the 5th one with a full team.... I couldnt imagine how frustrating that was to beat with just a handful of "fair" leveled pokemon.

Really sad smaller channels (forgive me if I got your size number right) like yours get copyright claimed really easily. I see bigger channels with footage and they don't get claimed. It's a shame because the anime footage helps us see what happened in these scenes. Maybe release these as demonetised videos and then have the rest as the ones that you get your income from? As another suggestion for now, do go for the random card challenge without a randomizer on the trainer's teams. It's more interesting to see if you could actually beat these games with the original setup.

I think it's an algorithm that does it automatically, whereas bigger channels either know some way around the algorithm or even receive the implicit or explicit permission from the company

Either way once the algorithm picks up he's using their footage then they claim it and force him to monetize it so they can take most / all of the ad money

The corphish being lvl 20+ for bubblebeam makes a good case for why in the anime it caused so much trouble to capture.

Level doesn't affect catch rates, if that's what you meant. Strong moves can make it more difficult, though.

I get that this was technically the Gym Battle, but you could have used the rematch between Wattson and Ash instead. After all, even in the show itself both of them agree that the battle didn't really count, even if Wattson let him keep the badge. EDIT: Also, Iron Tail replaced Thunder in Pikachu's movelist, not Agility.

I think that in the psychic pokemon gym ash made swellow use helping hand to boost pikachu thunder and to be more cool, the anime made the thunder armor thing but it is actually helping hand

To be fair - while I understand that leaving Pikachu as high level pokemon would ruin the fun of the challenge. I gotta say if there is any generation where that would make sense that would be Gen 3. Because I am pretty sure that scene in the anime where Pikachu using thunderbolt obliterated Roxane's gym is not something you level 9 pikachus do ^^'
