Absolutely man! I don't think he expected to have inspired so many people, his portrait will be on the presidential wall of RTS speedrunners. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I knew you could keep him alive with cheats but never realized the mission wouldnt end! Thats funny. You cant tap and rescue him either from what I can remember
@@Snowfireblues Weird... I thought he could be rescued. Just that he has no Mana so even if you make Knights into Paladins, he can't cast spells despite learning them...
Real fact: I've played this game before I knew how to read. It's a family story how I was calling my older brother to read me what I'm lacking to build something. And I remember being scared of the Death Coil sound effect. And yeah, replaying it later, I remember that the AI seems to randomly break upon reloads. I still love how these older games had all these different charming details, like the magnifying glass actually magnifying the point of the sprite that you're pointing it at, or the pickaxe on the gold mine disappearing when there's a worker inside the mine or the attack UI icon changing in accordance with your upgrade level, building sprites changing based on the map tiles, etc... Disappointing that in "modern design" we seem to try and fail making things "sleek" and sacrifice the charming points like this.
Omg absolutely I think it has to do with 2d vs 3d? Like stronghold 1 is so beautiful and charming but none of the sequals in 3d ever captured the same atmosphere. Warcraft 1-2 especially i find insanely charming, the waves in the water, christmas lights on the goblin building. Things the artists probably never thought people would notice....but we did 🤣
@@Admiral_Iddy Fun fact: Warcraft 2 units sprites are just rendered 3d models with colors set up to match limited color palette. Guess that's what makes Warcraft II so charming, unified and look so good.
@@rychellos wow! that would be really cool to see the original 3d models! especially if they could print real miniatures out of them, id collect those in a heartbeat!
You're not the only one who has been traumatized by Death Coil-happy Death Knights. I remember sobbing horribly as a kid when I watch my Archers gets mowed down by DK's like crazy.
@@Leny1777 That is a game called Blood and Magic, an absolute banger I have streamed it a couple times and am probably going to do a video on it at some point! It is abandonware so simply google it and you should have free download ready to go! but you will need the Dosbox Emulator.
Among all the missions in Warcraft II as Humans - I personally enjoyed the Northlands arc especially Mission VIII. Playing through Warcraft II brings back memories of my late father bringing home an old Siemens laptop from his work and has the game installed in it. This game and StarCraft was our father and son bonding time.
Thats so awesome and it is exactly the same with mine! We would take turns playing missions with him always one level ahead haha. I am glad you have that memory to cherish and hope you never lose it ❤️
@@Admiral_Iddy For the most part, we'd play custom scenarios; but when we did the campaign - Mission VIII of the Human Campaign was the one that stood out the most.
Wait a minute there. The amazing Warcraft 2 Deathless? In depth explanations of game mechanics? Clever tricks, jokes and puns throughout? Consider me subbed my dude
@@solidorreavoc hey man thanks so much for the kind words! It is really cool being such a small baby in this world to get complimented on the genre. It really makes me feel good to see people enjoying my content, being an adult can be rough most of the time but encounters like this help! I too have seen all the guys you mentioned (and agree on all counts too) thats what inspired me, Im addicted to challenge runs now and tried to find games I knew and could beat potentially that havent been covered (warcraft 1 is on my to do list!) Ill be finishing the orc campaign and doing kingdom under fire deathless next. It is very validating since editing a video and getting the jokes in was a lot of work! for a salt like me with the attention span of a goldfish I am glad it is good for people :) I just need to iron out the wrinkles in the twitch streaming and the video making but I will definitely be making more videos like this! For people like you the kind nostalgia fans! Thanks again buddy.
One thing about AI and cheating in this game that I remember, at least the PS1 version, is that the infinite mana cheat affects both you and the ai. And when playing as the Orcs, if the alliance has paladins, the Ai tends to among other things send two Paladins to harass your base if you do a slow base buildup. And the Paladins will use the infinite mana to instantly heal each other before death, meaning they can 2V50 your base and army is you aren't ready.
The gold cheat also affects every player. The computer can run out of money, then it stops building and producing units completely. However, if you type in the cheat, the computer awakes and starts spending gold immediately.
Excellent challenge, admiral. That last mission sure was a pain, but the highlight of the run is saving the three knights in Blackrock Spire. And ofc that 1hp mage. Gz!
Warcraft II was pretty much where my addiction to gaming began. Think I played Z first, but Warcraft II blew my mind. I remember a friend of mine got Beyond Dark Portal, and I slept over so we could play it. What a great time for gaming.
I was watching a sc2 deathless run by someone else and this popped up in my recommended. My memories of this game from my childhood told me you were going to give up at some point, but you didn't and I am legit amazed. Liked and subscribed.
thanks bro! my childhood memories of the lothar mission alone had me worried haha thanks for watching, just beat warcraft 1 human deathless too so ill get around to making a video eventually
Liked the video! Please continue doing more, I loved everything as far as the volume mixing, presentation, subject etc, but had only one issue (and it might just be a personal one, feel free to ignore). When you close with "Fair winds and following seas." You are using it completely accurately and matches the character, but it is also how we say goodbye semi-formally to our sailor buddies who die in the US Navy. I'd spare the blessing for the dead but we owe the dead nothing, so maybe I'm being a snowflake. Maybe just think about it, I don't know, the people I'm thinking of are gone anyway.
Mine too! Difference now is dad sits on the stool and watches me play haha shout glad you had these memories of your dad and happy to bring you back there :) thanks for the support! Ill be doing the expansion next
I always played this beautiful campaign deathless back then... the last two levels are so hard to pull off that way! Congrats on doing that! I loved every second of that video!
Thanks for the nice comment! I always turtled as a kid too even gave every units names too ahha I now understand the necessity of sacrificing lives for the greater good 🤣 but it still hurts to see my brave boys die
@@Admiral_Iddy Ah yes the turtle stance hahaha, in warcraft2 it worked too well ^^ One of the reasons I loved the game so much because in many other RTS-Games you would be totally screwed if you dont occupy other ressources early :O
@@Admiral_Iddy In the Stromgarde level, I'd always keep the Archer and the Footman alive. The Barracks, not-so-much but the soldiers were like the "Special Forces" or something and then according to the lore, Stromgarde are like the tough soldiers. Basically, all other units could get hurt or die in battle but the rescued units were too precious to lose...
Major props to you sir for doing this. I honestly did not think it was possible given the difficulty spike the game throws at you. Side note: I loved the naval combat when I first played the game and still think it would have been awesome if they kept it for Warcraft 3.
I am so glad you think that! I was nervous for years to return to youtube in case it didnt work, looking back at my old stuff I just see all the mistakes and what I could have done better
One video and I'm immediately hooked. Being a fan of GGG myself, it's so cool to see a whole new type of RTS content rise when most people consider the genre as dead. Keep it up, looking forward to a possible WC2 expansion video.
This was great! I love GGG 's deathless runs, and I love WC2 so this was a slam dunk! Any chance you'd ever try deathless Myth or Myth 2 Soulblighter? They're Bungie's forgotten RTSs (well, RTT, real time tactics. No building). They're really fun and I'd love to see someone try them deathless and see what difficulty they're possible on.
As a complete sucker for ye olde Blizz games, subbed and liked. I don't think WC I is possible, but I'd love to see you try some challenges there as well, despite how clunky it is. Also commenting this at the start, I have NO idea how you can complete the final mission without losing an unit, but I'm excited to find out if it was possible.
I remember practicing super hard as a kid so I could save Lothar with the infinite health cheat... only to learn the victory screen wouldnt trigger while he was still alive.
@@Admiral_Iddy You're better than me with that, I don't know the first thing about editing 😂 Will like to see if you can do the same with Blood & Magic. Think you'd have your work cut out for you with that game since the ai would be the main enemy there!
28:30 Thank you for finally telling me what the Exorcism Spell does, after about 20 years I know it. I always thought, it was useless. But wait, VS Undead Units, does it mean it is useless VS other Humans?
I actually did this as a kid when WC2 first came out! Though I only looked at the end-of-round stats screen to determine "deaths". Since fratricide didn't add to death count, I just murdered any friendly unit that got too weak if I couldn't save them with heals. So, its not as strict as your challenge here.
Oh man I love warcraft II. One of the only games I've ever been good at. Probably cause I've been playing it since I was like 7. I've completed this campaign countless times, never thought of anything like this though. Impressive.
me too! I usually just stuck to my habitual strategies, but this was super fun. I might try doing like an archers only run or something whacky. OH and a fun one i did was download the puds of the campaign and reverse the races so play orcs AS humans. Could make for a fun stream idea too ;)
As a kid I was obsessed with this game, it got so bad I challenged myself this challenge back then, I even saved loathar with the cheat code but the scenario wouldn’t end till he died, the real lore he was betrayed 😈
Aw shucks thanks 😄 I have since cleaned up, i was in the middle of a contest at work last man to shave or cut their hair wins the pot... I won me a tasty 400 dollas
Always a pleasure to see someone respecting the good old days of Warcraft... back when men were real men, orcs were real orcs and dragons were real dragons!
I started Warcraft with the first game, Warcraft 2 is my favorite RTS of all time, and while I do enjoy Warcraft 3, I consider it an "alternate continuity" of sorts (since it basically is!). I refuse to touch World of Warcraft with a 50-foot pole, and I speculate all the time on what Warcraft would have been if they had properly continued off of Warcraft 2 instead of retconning the setting in the third game. Alas, we will never know for certain, but at least we have these fond memories!
@@gyppygirl2021 Well, I did like most of War 3, but I definitely miss the old lore from 1 and 2, so I understand exactly how you feel. And yes, WoW pushed the world and its story in all sorts of stupid directions. Makes me wonder if we'll ever see a proper Warcraft 4...
@@AlexeiVoronin At this point, I wouldn't bet on it. Warcraft lore has been effectively ruined, and Blizzard doesn't seem keen on working with RTS games anymore.
Trying to remember but isn't it that the Human Campaign is the only time "Rescue Active" is used and it's used three times then (Stromgarde, Lordaeron, Blackrock)? Does the Dark Portal Campaign ever do that sort of thing? Also fun fact: "Rescue Active" is hostile to other "Rescue Active" so theoretically one could give two of them a single Peasant, have them build entire bases that then fight each other and they can't be rescued because "Rescue Active" only covers units placed on the map while things constructed or trained can only be rescued if the Town Hall is rescued... But since the Town Hall is constructed...
Hi, kudos from GGG community, that run looks really awesome! Presentation is toplevel ! (though I miss a bit of map 14 coverage at 31:30, wonder how did you 'breathe' there)
@@j.m.b.7449 haha it is really putting a boot up my ass to make more videos too! haha the king can wait! I have videos to edit! Ill be goin live this evening for some warcraft 1 deathless
And offcourse :) i figured out already as a child that if you kill a cheep with a Ballista by accident on especially Alterac you get a kill Yes 31:28 figured out that as 11 year old, dont cross the invisible building line on Heart of Evil or Citadel of Netherguard either, you dont need to wipe out the Black toot orc either since they dont attack...
And the solution on Cidadel Of Netherguard is to attack Warsong village instead of settlle near mine close to Shadowmoon death knight, and Heart of Evil, attack Bonecheawer by freeing Ballista instead of settle on Shattered Hand base in the middle and Shadowmon AI death knight in turn cant go trough another orc base to get to you, and Warsong AI-attack will get stuck in the mountain when they try to aim at a base thats straight below them So all you get is random dragon attacks All this you knew right? ;)
@@Admiral_Iddy Allow me to doubt you can get zero kills on Beyond the dark portal? we have a troublesome footman on citadel of netherguard actually who gets a catapult shot in the head in the beginning :) And last mission retreat from the initial attack is hard to avoid kills
And do double check if all boats could survive in Coast of Bones @@Admiral_Iddy i dont recall if i could hide them in the corner of the map against the endless juggernaut turtle attacks and dragons?, or if it was possible to attack Laughing skull shipyards directly, or even land on Thunderlord clan island?
find it funny, that you play similar to me, Tower up the Enemy and land upon their island tomake your base there :D. Rushing the enemy i nthe beginning, when they have nothing. Ah the good old days
When I was younger I was a mega turtler and the difficulty comes when the enemy has time to build up! But colonizing and rushing ive recently discovered is such a good tactic in these old games where the ai doesnt cheat 😁
So this was played without fog of war? Back in the old days, it took me a very long time to discover this option. 8:10 "This AI doesn't cheat." I might be mistaken but IIRC the enemy peasants / Peons only collect 1 gold from a gold mine, if the gold mine wasn't discovered yet by the human player. This would be very easy to verify/ disprove (e.g. Holy Vision spell or looking at the last digit of gold left in a mine). edit: I was wrong. Peons bring in 100 gold while mine is still in black area. I checked it myself. Still had a CD image and I found a place to download some save games.
Yep! Just figured it would make it a bit easier to do without it and its habit to play war2 campaign without 😁. Thats an interesting quirk ive never heard of Id be interested to test it out when i do beyond the dark portal!
I guess one could assume that, in mission 2, the ships themselves are the "transports" for your elven archers, that is, how they landed next to your base.
Or maybe it's supposed to be a bit of showcase. "Hey we brought archers and we got these boats" because there are even Orc ships to test them out on. Yeah I like your transports explanation better.
You are right! Although Carl was from the nation of Kul Tiras his death weighs heavily before I could rescue him. Carl does make some more appearances throughout the rest of my playthroughs 😂
I recently streamed it a couple of times! as well as made a playthrough MANY years ago ahha one of my all time faves the OG unreal, sad the series is dead now :(
Really liked this, but sorry to see hardly anyone's seen it. I've heard more than one person say that youtube prioritises new channels for exposure, pushing old channels like this one way down, which isn't fair to your new challenge run videos which are their own whole thing that deserves first time exposure to an audience. So I'd suggest starting a new channel for them for that reason.
Thanks for the kind words! I had juggled with the thought of starting a new channel but figured I already had about 250 subs when I started so thought why not just keep the old stuff too which still gets the occasional watch. Thanks for the support! The views will come :)
Honestly I think this game is better than the third edition. I was disappointed that we didnt get boats, demons and big ass armies in Warcraft 3. I wanted it to be more like warcraft 2. Lots of missions and strategy. OmG and dragons! So many cool units in this version.
The emphasis on heroes more than your army was a big turnoff for me as well dont get me wrong war3 is great but I agree with you. At least in the frozen throne we got some ships :) not much but it was something haah
Re: Final Mission Blacktooth AI I have a blurry memory from many years ago of watching another player beat the map deathless and explaining in either the video description or youtube comments that there's a trigger line near the signpost that activates the Blacktooth AI.
You mentioned just over half way through you have a plugin setup to get rid of your face, I'd love to know what that is? Also I have never played WC2 but really enjoyed your narration style, I hope you keep it up, looking forward to more Videos
you mention it at around 32 minutes in, there is a ai bug with war2 that has something to do with save-loads in level. theres another youtuber doing some war2 challenge mode content who found that the ai just shuts off sometimes when you save load in these missions. (edit: the other youtuber is redwings13400 who did a footmen only challenge, talks about the bug in his videos)
Watched a few of your videos and really enjoyed your content, but I have one extremely minor nitpick: if something is "penultimate", that mean's its the second last, not the last.
