Sushanto, I loved your voice over. You've got such a warm voice. And I've enjoyed your vocals on your other channel with a focus on music. It's nice to hear it here too. Lots of good hints. Springtails are hard for me to keep alive. I think simulating wood with materials that can be sterilized then stabilized, like cotton rope/cording. But I will also try with low temperature oven hardened polymer clay. Thanks for all your inspiration.

I made a moss prop box in an empty danish container accidentally bioactive lol, with some soil that I just picked up off the ground when I collected the moss. I got a little hitchhiker who I have named Herrmann the Worm 😂 he’s doing great, living his best life, and so is the moss! I just decided to add some baby props that I’m taking out of water and sphagnum moss (pepperomia frost and red polka dot plant to get bigger and stronger, at least until spring comes and I have more light and humidity, a red cryptanthus I have been keeping in my other prop box (except it’s totally green and white now 😑), and a fittonia Albivenis (nerve plant) that I am pretty sure is dead lol. But we will see if she perks back up! If not, Herrmann can eat her, or I will take her out if I notice it’s too much dead organic matter. But basically I have wandered into my first terrarium 😂 I have to change the container though, it’s SO ugly lmao

Thank you for another informative video! If I wanted to use springtails to help keep an emersed growout tank free of mold. Would I risk infecting my aquarium with springtails when I transfer the plants? Or are there steps I could take?
@TheUrbanNemophilist
@TheUrbanNemophilist Год назад
Thanks. Yes you can. You can shake them off while removing plants. Any transferred Springtails will float and will get eaten by fish or thrive within emerged wood and plants if any.

Doesn’t baking and sterilizing kill the beneficial bacteria and mould growth?
@TheUrbanNemophilist
@TheUrbanNemophilist Год назад
Yes it does but it helps to start off things without getting into mold issues that can completely destroy a closed terrarium. A terrarium is not a natural ecosystem. Its set up to become one so this step is useful in ways. But for bigger enclosures can be skipped too.

They absolutely will consume moss and plants if they have no other food available, as I found out through experimentation! If you have isopods, you need to feed them
