Nice job! You just showed how easily accessible stone carving is without the need for expensive tools. I'm sure the expensive chisels are a lot better to work with, but this was an eye opener. Do you sharpen your chisels to a really sharp point or just to a certain angle? I would think you would not go super sharp because you are pounding on stone, but now we've got me wondering.
Hi, TinkersShop. When I first started carving I used wood chisels and old metal hole punches I sharpened on a bench grinder. I never really sharpen to a real point, it’s more of a bull edge.
Well done. Seeing as you have a piece of stone, it has a no.5 in it, you used a screwdriver I would say challenge completed. Is there any stone you cannot carve/refuse to carve (eg granite etc)
Thank you, I have carved loads of different stone over the year. Some I have definitely enjoyed more than others, but none I have refused because of the stone. With a granite/marble I just use a different set of chisels and take my time
