Peak District National Park Ranger who loves making videos about stone masonry, focusing mainly on carving stone lettering and dry stone walling, with some other bits mixed in. After 15 years running a stone masonry business and learning various techniques through self-teaching, my channel is completely free. There will be no charge for videos, live streams, or advice; simply ask away, and I will do my best to help out. If you do want to become a channel member, it's only 99p, with all money going towards new camera and equipment to enhance your viewing experience. I also do a lot of stone carving for charities to raffle off; the better-looking the videos, the more tickets they can raffle. Link for membership below. I couldn’t see them through the link 😢. Can I ask if you oil quench and then temper the chisels after sharpening. As boiler maker I used to do this to my cold chisels and cut welds with it with out dulling although they maybe weren’t as sharp as stone chisels.
The video was very well done, but there was absolutely no narrative didn’t say what tools he was using. What pant he was using how long to leave it before you paint it pretty poor instructional video.
The rock is quite soft since the wood chisel was able to cut out two figures. You have to be careful when doing this because it can cause splinters. It was nice to see your work. Congratulations and best regards 👋💖😀.
In lots of your videos it looks as if you’re using a turntable. Is this home made, or can you buy them? I’ve looked at ones for pottery (“banding” wheels, not “throwing” wheels) but I doubt they’re strong enough.
Hi, thank you for watching. I am using a lazy Susan; it’s a wheel you use for decorating cakes, and I was always unsure how much weight it would hold, but I have been massively impressed. I hope this helps.
Hi, you can buy these chisels from Southern Stone Limited. There is a discount code on my channel if you watch the video "Unlock Exclusive Savings: Your Southern Stone Discount Code - A Thank You from TheStoneRanger!" 👍 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uSubX9v9avs.html
Hi Ray, I hope you are doing well. I am still around, just haven't made any videos for a couple of months. I have been busy at work and helping the kids with school, mainly exams. We have three kids, all doing different levels at the same time, and we are buying a new house. That’s very exciting, as I will have a new big workshop to show you all at the end of the year with some very exciting projects coming up. I might try and make a little short this afternoon or even go live. Take care, and thank you for the comment. 👍
Your instruction and video was very concise and informative…makes me want to give it a go. Live on a river and our rocks are not soft. But buying one from a garden center is a brilliant idea. Thank you for sharing
@@TheStoneRanger Anything but mainstream nonsense. Too specific and it's off-putting to most audiences. Especially the types who want to view your stuff... music like this doesn't appeal to most of us.
It has taken some time to discover this site. Thank you very instructive. I have always been keen to carve stone and to generally use stone. I have learned a lot from you and I hope to produce something as beautiful and useful as you have. Thank you again.
Great skill, glad it's still around. If I could give some constructive criticism, maybe give your camera lens a wipe, the footage looks all soft focus like the lens is dirty.
Thank you for watching. You are most definitely right; the camera has had a hard life with all the stone dust. I am hoping to upgrade it as soon as I make enough money from my RU-vid videos.
