Will the Kessil A360X Narrow Reflector get more PAR down in the bottom of deeper tanks? YES! Will it allow you to mount your Kessil A360X higher than our recommended 8" inches off the water? YES!! Will it turn a flood light into a spotlight to get higher PAR in a concentrated area? 10/10 Reef Certainty!

Need to mount your Kessil A360X higher or do you have a deep tank and need PAR near the bottom?

Always tackling the things we don't always think about. That's BRS.

Interesting to note the PAR drop off moving the light from 6" to 13" was more at 6" of water depth, than it was from 13" height testing from 6" of depth to 18" both in percentage. Losing 26 and 25 average par respectively, but the center area lost 361 and 135 par respectively for that center hot spot.

I would like to see the par levels of the narrow lenses between 8 and 13 inches. I have a 17x17x17 cube and am curious about what height would be ideal with the reflector for an acro dominant tank. After seeing the 8 inch and 13 inch levels logic suggests that 10 inches would be ideal for me but how would I know if I can't see your measurements at the other heights!?

What about spacing multiple lights with narrow reflectors on, is it based on the same 20 inch apart with reflectors but 13 inch high for a 4ft aquarium with lps and few higher easy sps ??

I am getting those for my A360X’s. I don’t have a deep tank or high demand corals. I just wanna have cleaner glass. 😁
@TylerMorita
@TylerMorita 4 года назад
Will adding the reflector and increasing the mounting height also increase the contrast in the tank, bouncing less light under rocks and overhangs? I wonder if the wider angle would give you more even coverage due to more par reflecting off the glass.
@BRStv

It would be interesting to see this light over a real reef tank to see. Hard to see that sense of depth in a test tank like we're using here.

@@BRStv Can you build a simple pvc structure and check the relative par underneath that? I raised up my lights and added reflectors, and it seemed way too contrast-ey too me. changing the lighting was also freaking out my fish, I wanted to minimize the disturbance, so immediately lowered them back down before taking a picture.

I am considering the a360x for my Red Sea 170 Reefer, but I would like to mount the light as high as possible. Do you have a mounting height recommendation for the even narrower 35 degree reflector?

I am looking for the best light for a frag tank that is 24” x 24” and shallow to the racks... maybe 6” to frags.. don’t want to “cook” them /melt them... would narrowing to 55 be too strong a par at 13” or is a straight away 130 better? I haven’t used Kessel lighting before except in sump for macro algae k60... my other lights are Radions and Red Seas and T5 in several reef tanks but unsure what I want to use in this small frag tank. Opinions requested.

Do you think the A360N and A360W Tuna Blue would have similar characteristics to the A360X with and without the reflector lens, even if not the exact same PAR readings? I have 3 x A360N, purchased from BRS, would be nice to see a test done on those.
@BRStv

I would expect similar results to this test in terms of difference of spread from the wide angle to narrow angle versions of the A360w/A360n

what about the shimmer in differnt mounting hights and reflectors?
@BRStv

In theory, it would affect shimmer a little bit, but you'll still get that classic Kessil shimmer that you're accustomed to.

How would you recommend adding multiple units over a longer tank so that coverage is maintained.
@BRStv
@BRStv 4 года назад
You'll first want to determine what corals you'd like to keep and what lighting requirements they have. If you're keeping higher light corals like SPS, you may want to use one of these lights every 12-18", where if you're keeping low or medium light corals like LPS and softies, one light for every 24" of tank length will almost certainly suffice.

Randy if I’m setting up a red sea max nano using this light with the 55 reflector, What is the height/intensity I should set it for sps only tank ? Or should I go with a different light ?
@BRStv
@BRStv 2 года назад
The only reason I would suggest using the add-on reflector for that particular tank is if you wanted to mount it higher off the water. If you're set on using the narrow reflector, mounting a couple inches closer to the water is likely going to be ideal. Hard to give an exact height as this isn't a combo that we had the opportunity to test. As far as intensity goes, I would guess that you'll end up around 75% intensity for SPS corals in that tank. Of course, using a par meter to get this all set up right the first time would be the best plan of action.

How many of these lights should I put over my 72Lx25Wx30H 225 gallon soft coral only tank?
@BRStv
@BRStv 3 года назад
Since you're only keeping softies, three of this fixtures should be more than capable of covering your tank. You'll just need to keep mounting height in mind when you do the installation.

Would it be possible to put a 360x on a red sea max nano or will it be to much power if yes can you recomend the height and light schedule for the red sea max nano or would you recomend another light I'm thinking of going lps or maybe nems thank you
@BRStv
@BRStv Год назад
The A360X would be overkill for a Red Sea Max Nano. While you could always turn it down in intensity, going with a smaller fixture such as the Kessil A160 (if you wanted to stick with the Kessil brand) would be a better fit for LPS and anemones. While we haven't tested this combo specifically, the A160 about 8" off the water surface and about 80-90% intensity should get you very close. www.bulkreefsupply.com/kessil-a160we-tuna-blue-led-light.html

How about using these in a sps 48” wide tank. Will this be to narrow if we used 4 of them?
@BRStv
@BRStv 4 года назад
Probably not necessary for a vast majority of the 48" tanks. I wouldn't bother using the narrow reflector unless A) you wanted to mount the lights higher, or B) your tank was 30" or taller.
@t.regnerus301
@t.regnerus301 4 года назад
So why would you want these then? Because you have to mount them high to avoid light spill? Other than that, why?
@BRStv
@BRStv 4 года назад
This would mostly benefit deeper tanks where we wouldn't necessarily change the mounting height a whole lot, but the deeper penetration into the water column would help. Or, like we're using here, you could mount the lights higher up, allowing for more working space in the tank during tank maintenance and providing more of a blanket of light.

Do they only make these for the Kessil? My light is mounted 12" above my tank and I would benefit from one for sure. But I have an AI prime 16HD. I see they make diffusers for them but it doesn't seem like that's an actual narrowing reflector.

Can Kessil A360X grow SPS only in an 24x24x18 area if so how many? Is there a better light that you can recommend that will do the job better?
@BRStv
@BRStv 4 года назад
I think the best combo for SPS dominated in that size area is a A360x with a T5hybrid. Our testing of the A360x alone on a 24x24 area showed PAR levels slightly lower than what we aim for in SPS dominated systems. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZrElOlcPm9E.html

This is a BRS Investigates? I don't think the topic makes the grade - I'd like to see more of those really amazing investigations (that often show results over time) - with the current situation you couldn't do longer term experiments but I can't wait till they make a comeback ;)
