daily anything you want ftw , just be patient and have understandance for some things like unreliability if it's high hp like czeros Evo not saying it is but , more power more problems usually
+Sean Smile its like dating a super fine supermodel. maintenance gets high and you get into a lot of accidents. and insurance never covers you if she does something wrong.
I daily drove my stock Evo 8 RS for about 5 years in eastern PA, no issues. Most important thing is do maintenance before mods! Don't throw cheap (and crappy) mods at these cars and ignore maintenance while continuing to beat on the car! You won't be happy or have good results.
For what it's worth for anyone thinking of getting there Evo up to 5 to 600 bhp, I got my 6 done to a stage 3 (550 whp) and it's very "daily friendly" (if that's a phrase) got the boost on a switch where it runs I think 18 pounds off and 28 psi on Which helps, the lag also really helps for town driving as the boost doesn't come on hard till 4500rpm. Lots of fun highly recommend it. I was advised to leave an anti lag turbo system alone cos of the wear it places on it, went for a launch control option instead. No pops and bangs (a little mind not heaps though) NEVER had so much fun in a car, even pick the kids up and go grocery shopping in it. Go for it, just make sure you know exactly what your doing if it's a home build or use a very reputable performance company (that's what I did) and if the budget allows, get the best parts your budget allows, met a couple of folks who skimped a little and man they have had problems. Happy driving :-)
I agree with everything you said, "You can daily anything." other than that, hope Mitsubishi brings back the EVO. The only intriguing car coming out for me is the Focus RS. I wonder how well it will hold up against an STI
SHES BACK, good vlog but two things: 1. You said it makes guys come over and ask about the car, but I thought car guys love talking about their car, I mean what is car meet really? 2. You should consider switching up you camera angle a little more to your side so we can see you shifting and all that. As always keep it up 👍🏾
You make very good points i love my SSL. Works great for a daily when it is running ;). Now I am building a 2.4 stroker hope it will be fun when I am done.
Still running strong. Ran it for a year on 17 psi made 502 at the tires. Then turned it up to kill. I keep breaking other stuff but the motor is solid. Props to MAProformance for building some awesome stuff.
dude I'm listening to this through my Bluetooth speaker and I keep getting distracted from you talking by the exhaust note. it's fantastic through a JBL flip speaker.
Of course you can daily drive a 500+ whp car (Evo). The biggest component of smooth drive-ability is in the tune - specifically if you have large cams and have converted to speed density. Where horsepower is concerned in daily driving conditions, you're not asking any more (mechanically) from the car at 500+ whp versus the factory 271 hp at the crank!
Trevor K i had an 03 Lancer OZ Rally back in the day. Yes i know its nothing close to an Evo. But the remark about Mitzu’s being unreliable..... my father in law told us not to buy it because “Mitzu’s are unreliable”. We bought it anyways and in 4 yrs had ZERO issues. Count em... zero. Was a remarkably reliable car. Handled extremely well and was fun to drive. Until i totaled it... 😞 anyways Mitzu’s are great vehicles. Ive wanted an Evo ever since that car. Will buy one eventually.
[Regarding the segment about the large spoiler on the back] : Of course you know what car is behind you! It's the one that was beside you when the race started.
I daily my STi, twin disc, built motor, no AC. Sucks in the wonderful Chicago weather, due to no ac, but the other problem is that people always look and stare because how loud it is, straight pipe. I don't complain, money comes and goes, if you want to daily your car go for it, you will soon figure out the drawbacks of your set up. As in mine, car wont move anywhere until 2500rpm, loud as hell at 3000rpm, cops don't like it when you are driving past 10pm and that an instant pullover for loud exhaust. It is what it is. If you build it, enjoy in what ever way you seem fit. I should of bought an R32 GTR.....
When asking if the car is daily friendly, what factors are you looking for? Comfort, MPG, reliability, etc. Recently bought an Evo 5 and was wondering how to tune it since I want to import it back to the US. All my past cars are daily driven, but most weren't turbo. Had a 99 2.5 RS(GC8), 91 Eclipse GSX(previously tuned and sold before I could do anything to it), and a 92 NSX. Yes it was my #DailyBeaterNSX and I drove it across the US for road trips. I appreciate this video because I'm not sure of the long term effects of so many extra parts on a turbo car with higher upgrades. 400hp is the most I would ha e on any of my cars, for the fear of losing reliability. It helped a bit but I'm sure the best way to learn is to do it. Thanks again.
Been dailying my evo since I was 18, im 26 now it's been great. Maybe take this guys advice and don't add +300 HP to it if you want to daily it and you won't have problems...
i'm in minnesota, in my opinion rwd in snow is fine, with some good snow tires. see plenty of rwd beamers n stuff like that thru out the winter. not so much camaros or mustangs though. a guy in my town dailys a 350z even in the snow.
I daily drive my Evo IX MR and I absolutely love it. That being said, when it does go down, it sucks complete dick. Just this year alone: - Got sent to the state referee here in California for illegal mods and couldn't drive the car until it passed inspection (That was about a month without being able to drive it) - Shortly after my visit to the state referee, the clutch fork snapped off the transmission housing due to it not being properly lubricated (from when I had a clutch installed and the shop that did the work didn't do a thorough job...) that was about 2-3 weeks being down - And finally, last month on the highway, I went to do a pull and one of the spark plugs fouled out or fused to itself and that situation ended up bending one or more of the valves. The car is still in the shop being worked on and it's been about a month now without it since the incident. I'm nowhere even close to 500-600whp (I'm currently at 312whp on a Dyno Dynamics) and this is what I've been through in just this year alone. But I've also just passed the 150k mile mark, so things will go down, no doubt. Do I regret buying and dailying my Evo? Absolutely not! It's always brought a smile to my face EVERY single time I've driven it and I wouldn't change a thing. Just know that it WILL take up a lot of your time and money (especially if you plan to modify it). For me, it requires a lot of commitment and dedication and I can see how some people can't do that for a car. But then you also have the people who buy these cars and build them up to be these high horsepower monsters (without the proper supporting mods), launch them every chance they get, and when it finally breaks, they write it off as a POS unreliable car. ANYWAYS, that's just my take on dailying an Evo, lol.
So glad you mentioned the turning circle. First time I test drove an Evo 6 and pulled into a carpark, figured it had a similar turning circle to my Impreza. Ended up almost crashing into a parked car. Currently daily a (low hp) Evo and still haven't figured out how to park in one smooth motion.
I currently own a Mazdaspeed 3 with about 280+ whp and it's a great daily driver for me here in Sweden. I'm concidering upgrading to eaither a Evo 8-9 or a Bmw 135i. I've heard great things about Bmw's DCT greabox and I guess the Bmw will be more comfrotable. But... once in a lifetime, I just HAVE TO own a Evo... :D
My Evo was a daily for 3 years only thing I had to replace was clutch not because it wore out but because it started to slip when I made more power lol.
basically you can daily almost every car, even a full tune drag spec car as long as you dont mind driving below 3krpm, no powersterring, harsh suspension, noisy exhaust, lots of judder from race spec cams, noisy fuelpump, and hot weather from no AC...
its been many years. and ive finally manage to get my evo 500whp. voltex widebody with te37v mk2s. its a blast to use. feeling superior to every other car on the road and what i can only say is, its definitely a terrible daily.
@@TayTheGodFather for starters its really bumpy. 18x11 wheels with skinny tires is really a pain. I got stiff coilovers and racing braces underneath. All kinds of cusco stuff. Also im already planning to swap out my recaro rsge since its really too aggressive for me now and it hurts the hips sitting inside. you could say its getting old.
I’m in Mississippi and just about every evo I’ve seen down here is driven by a female it’s usually a teenager 18-23 or an older woman maybe in their 40’s. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen a clean ass evo x and when I look at the driver it’s a middle age woman Lol. Pretty much every subie I’ve seen are driven by guys tho.
great video, in the process of buying a new family/ weekend fun car, been looking at Subaru forester sti 2006 model, or a evo 6 or 8 what would you go for, really want something reliable, in the UK there are a look of forged evo 8's, just need some advice?
I've heard from various sources before that the mpg should stay the same with normal use - even if the car is turboed. Why do you say it changes? Is there a way to have two modes: normal and turbo and to lower the turbo psi to 1 atm for normal driving?
Great vlog, anybody reading this don't buy a evo and convince yourself the sound of a motor is all you need. That is foolish, ask me how I know. While its great having the 5 speed for power and the mod bug will def. bite you. Also strongly consider the 6 speed if all you be doing is sticking below the 400hp mark. Anything above that the 6speed will prematurely die.GL
I really hope if I get married I don't have to get rid of my car for something more family friendly. Getting my dream car only to have to get rid of it later will suck so much.
+Verik K Don't listen to what you're wife says! It's you put a lot of time and money into your dream car, you shouldn't have to throw it all away for the biased opinion of another person. Most females just don't understand car culture. If your family can be transported in the vehicle, I would say that's enough family friendly even if only your kids will be able to fit in the back seat for their 1st years!
Verik make sure your potential wife understands your passion for said car. That'll make her more understanding in the future. Plus if you pay it off in time why not just got get a family car and keep the fun car for the weekends?
Verik, don't ever get rid of your car. There will be many things that the wife will be upset about. Before I married I stated what the non-negotiables were, one of them being the car. I even bought my STi when married, I didn't show her a picture but said, "I am buying a four door car with all wheel drive." I wasn't lying. Same line can be used for the Evo😜.
What are your thoughts on the lancer ralliart for a good daily, I live in Canada so snow is a huge factor. I'm looking into the newer ralliarts with paddle shifting, I'll be doing lots of city driving and I've never owned a standard before so paddle seems more convenient because you kind of get the best of both worlds. I've also never driven a car with paddle shifting so I don't really know how responsive and reliable the shifting is. Any thoughts, opinions or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.
I reviewed a Evo X Mr. I talk about paddle shifting. It will be uploaded soon. I like the regular landers. Especially a wagon. I think you will love it
It reduces the revs in top gear when cruising and gives more top speed, especially suitable for high powered Evos. I race Evos, maybe think before you post something stupid next time.
+Frederick Thomas I mean they are definitely heavier than the evo 8 and 9. But its a great daily driver and the weight really isn't noticeable to be honest.
oh man you do talk funny.I know you don't mean to but I laugh at they way you pronounce some stuff. Great stuff though,I subscribed after the 2jz genesis you did
Yo, i got an EVO 4. 280HP and i got like 400km with a full tank. Thats like 10-12 liters / 100km. When i get stuck in traffic usually it feels like its sucking up the fuel :D So in my opinion Evo's are not really friends of traffic :D
Hey CZero, would you recommend a roll bar in a Evo 9 if I want to use a harness? I plan on using the Evo as a daily in California, and I would also like to have availability and usage of the backseats and also still safe. Thanks
I have a 5xx hp Evo and I'm about to start using it as a daily is that bad or any tips on how to keep it well maintained and not have anything mess up?
But wouldn't a 500hp Evo be unreliable as a daily driver? I have an Evo X and want to up the HP on it but since it's my daily driver I don't want to go too high and make the car unreliable.
I have an 05 evo 8 and it's had over 400 wheel since 60k miles. At 100k miles I put an fp black and a flex fuel tune making 540 wheel. Stock block. I drove it everyday as well as across the country to colorado and back to philly. NO PROBLEMS. Right now its in the shop only because my shifter linkage pin snapped. No other problems. Car performs way out of my expectations. 4g63 FTW
Yes stock block. TQ is right at 400 wheel. Tuner kept it low so the motor would have some longevity. Stock blocks should be "ok" with around 450, but since I have higher miles we kept it lower. On pump car made 487 wheel and 390 tq, on e85 made 540 wheel and 390 tq. So Tq could be much higher, just not safely. My tuner currently holds the record for stock block 4g63 making about 650 wheel and 500 tq. But that wont last very long lol. I think it ran low 9's in the quarter. STOCK BLOCK. lol amazing what a little 2.0l can do.
shit im about to daily drive a ford f350 dually and it gets 13.5 on highway haha but if you have that much horsepower wouldnt parts be more expensive and woulnd it break down more ?
+bosna917 Man, daily driving a sports car is ok, but a Truck? That stuff is meant for towing. Might as well be like daily driving a semi truck without the transport load! lol Yeah, I'm exaggerating...
+Effym0812 depends on what fuel. on e85 id say $3000. with most of that buying the bigger turbo. the rest is just small stuff pump, injectors, test pipe. I woundnt say you even need cams to make 500, 600 for sure. X's with bolts ons are very close to 500 on the stock turbo. its all in the turbo and being able to run e85.
