WOW! Thank you very much for the compliment I truly appreciate it! One of my goals when starting a youtube video was to try to provide a good and informative experience in as concise of a package as possible. I was getting tired of founding videos that dragged on and on for simple information. Of course there is a place for longer, less scripted videos but I felt reviews should get to the point. Thank you very much and I'll have more videos like this soon!

Great review! The only good review I could find on using the Duet as a drawing tablet. Maybe it's already been mentioned, but it seems that the parallax issue is a problem with Lenovo's pen. Just purchased an iPlume USI pen for my duet. We'll have to see if that improves the drawing experience. Update!: Can confirm, the iPlume pen has zero parallax issues and the drawing experience is very comparable to my iPad + Apple Pencil. 👌🏼

Thank you very much for the comment! I appreciate the support. I have heard of pens like the penoval usi pen that have less parallax and want to test them but they aren't as readily available here. It is something on my list to check out though! I believe I experienced some parallax on other Chromebook testing them out in the store but I don't own any others to test with properly. Please let the know what your experience is like with the new pen! Thank you

Wow! That's great news thank you for the report. It's unfortunate that Lenovo's own pen suffers from such parallax as it's the one many people will go for... I'll try to get one of these other usi pens and try them out for myself.

That parallax issue you are having is caused by the Lenovo pen you are using (many has reported that issue with that specific pen), so not actually an issue with the Duet device. Using another pen, such as the Penoval USI pen, solves the parallax issue.

Hello and thank you for the comment. I have received a few comments like this about the penoval, unfortunately it isn't as easy to import to Japan as just buying it at other countries but I still want to try it out. It's unfortunate that the actual tablet manufacturers didn't produce a high quality pen for their tablets..

Hello and thank you very much for the comment! I appreciate the feedback. I would love to check out other Chromebooks, product reviews are just pretty time consuming and paying out of my own pocket for the devices means I can only do a select few each year. Hopefully that will change in the future but I do intend to pick up at least a differnet USI pen to test out the parallax(I assume it is on the pen side and not the chromebook duet) Thank you very much! I hope you look forward to those videos in the future!

@@tsukepen Well, I just subbed, and you respond with video so quickly, nothing special so don't thank... I have two question; Is it somehow possible to use full Adobe apps, even with Linux or hack however just, is it? And are there lags when you do your work on this Lenovo ?
@tsukepen
@tsukepen 3 года назад
It's really funny timing! Hmmm as far as full adobe apps I think you would have a lot of trouble even if you could get it to run. It is not that powerful of a device, but certainly enough for 2D drawing apps. Occasionally I experienced some lag or the rare crash but it wasn't anything out of the ordinary. If you'd like to run desktop apps, you may be and to with an app like easycanvas that mirrors your desktop to a tablet. I'm still trying to get it to work on the chromebook duet. In general if you need to use adobe apps it would probably be best to do so on something like the surface that has more power and a proper OS

@@tsukepen Thank you very much for answer😊. Well, yeah. I've wanted Microsoft Surface, but I don't know... I felt in luv with this Lenovo Duet. And I don't even know why (maybe because of price), I just found it more interesting but still less powerfull. At the end of a day, all I want is to programing, drawing, animate and making some 3D blender stuff, without fps drop. Surface is little bit rarer than the Lenovo Duet and it has full Windows, but still you'll find few low fps times (because it's hard work). Everything I want is desktop apps support, iPad fast and smoothnes, and Lenovo's attractive OS and small design sympathy. Edit: Hope one day we'll get day use small tablet machine, with full desktop app support. Everyone is doing it now (for long tìme now), and nobody can still do the *best* .

I see. It's still difficult to find a device to do all of that well. I tend to use mobile devices for less intense tasks on the go and use a desktop at home for heavy workloads. It has proven to be a good way to work and the chromebook duet is a nice option on the go because of its price and size! I think some day soon there will be a device that fits your needs though! I have tried devices like this for 10 years and every year they get so much better!

Another thing to try,, Get a $49 HSB C HUB,, with power in, audio in/out, HDMI out for 2nd screen, Ethernet etc ... then add a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse or wireless keyboard into a spare USB port on the HUB and plug a full size monitor into the HDMI port,, and you can use the Lenovo DUET as a 2..3 screen desktop machine TOO LOOK for " How to use speech to enter text on your Chromebook " on " Chromebook " channel, easier than typing!! I can’t seem to find much of an answer… does the USI stylus have pressure sensitivity, angle sensitivity, and palm rejection? I know you briefly went over some of that but I’m reading mixed reviews on what works with what apps, so say Sketchbook, does USI have all three of those features in sketchbook? Thanks!
@tsukepen
@tsukepen 3 года назад
Hello and thank you for the question. Pressure sensitivity, angle sensitivity and especially palm rejection can be app dependent but with Lenovos usi pen I had pen pressure and tilt with all the apps I tested. Palm rejection was adequate but not the best I've ever experienced. Also the issue I covered in the video was called parallax and usi pens seem to all suffer from this drift of the cursor. I have heard good things about the penoval USI pen but have not had a chance to test it myself. Thank you hope that helps!

Hi do you know if I can use this to scan my charcoal drawings and also print them from this Chromebook ? I have a flatbed scanner and a printer. For that matter which basic Chromebook would be good for doing something like that thank you
@tsukepen
@tsukepen 8 месяцев назад
Hello and thank you for the comment! Depending on your needs you might be able to scan and print from a phone if both accessories have Bluetooth. If you need to draw more details then something like a tablet could help, but for mobile devices and operating systems Bluetooth printers or scanners may be the only choice so I would look into that first. If you're printer or scanner needs specific software and a USB connection maybe the Microsoft surface would be a better solution. I hope that helps but as all accessories are different it's best to look into your specific products.

Thank you very much for the comment! This could be a good entry into the digital drawing world. I have tested the penoval usi pen and it seems to perform better but I want to further test it before making a video. How would you say this is vs. the standard iPad 10.2 and Apple Pencil for art? As I understand that does not have a laminated display and has a bit of what would be known as parallax as well and was considering that for beginner digital art but begrudgingly because I am not at all in the Apple ecosystem. I have had Android phones for years, and use a ton of Google services, and I have a ton of USB C charging infrastructure in my home but very little Lightning (my GF does have an iPhone SE). I realize Google supports iOS really well with its apps and services but not at the same OS-level extend of their own Chrome OS, so no texting on my phone from the tablet on iPad for instance. If the iPad is miles ahead of this I will probably go with that, but if it's almost a tie I would definitely go with the Chromebook Duo first.
@tsukepen
@tsukepen 2 года назад
Hello and thank you for the comment! I think you have a good grasp on the differences between the platforms. The largest gap between iPadOS and ChromeOS would definitely be the available drawing apps. Android or chromeOS has a few pro level apps but not nearly the selection available on iPadOS. If you have no preferences or prior history drawing digitally it may not make a difference but for more professional workflows the ipad has better options. Mobile drawing in general is stil l limited often not being able to use or customize keyboard shortcuts etc. With Lenovo's usi pen it was pretty difficult to draw but i have heard good things in this comment thread about other alternative pens. If you are a beginner and the other usi options work properly I think this could be a great alternative to learn to draw on. I like the size and feel of the chromebook duet and it is a very affordable option that can also be used to watch RU-vid or do productivity tasks. The iPad is a more premium experience and if you can get a usb c model it helps out a lot with file back up or transfer and of course charging. I also personally find the apple pencil to be one of the best drawing experience ive come across in my 10+ years of drawing, it is somewhat subjective but take away what you will from that haha Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to test out the alternative usi pens so it is hard for me to give you a good answer. In the end it comes down to how seriously you want to take drawing and if you have other tasks you want to do. If you are going to draw less than 50% of the time then the Chromebook may be a great option but if your primary use is for drawing the ipads just offer a fantastic intuitive experience that is easy to pick up if you have little digital art experience! I hope that helps please feel free to ask further questions!

@@tsukepen Thanks for the reply! I think I may have narrowed it down to the iPad mini 6th gen that came out this year. It is small, but for my drawing style I think it would be perfect. It also charges with USB C and is compatible with the better and more convenient Pencil 2. It would also do double duty as an e reader, and the mini's size is good for that as well. I was also a bit wrong on not being able to text on it: I can use the Google Messages web app in the browser for that if I really needed to. Sure it's pricey and the Pencil is a separate purchase but I'm pretty serious about it, so I think it's worth it.
@tsukepen
@tsukepen 2 года назад
No problem at all! I have always been a big fan of the little mini~ I plan on doing more videos on the mini 6 but so far its been a nice upgrade over the mini 5. The usb c and apple pencil 2 really make it feel like a cohesive package and i think texting would be easier on the mini while holding it vertically! You also have cellular options. If you are serious about drawing then i feel more comfortable recommending an ipad over the chromebook. It is possible to do good work on the chromebook but it was frustrating at times... as far as the size of the mini, it is something i am used to and i feel it is large enough for drawing but some people might find it cramped. Especially for beginners i tend to recommend the middle sized ipads as they are a great balance of price and performance and still portable just more comfortable than the mini. If you go out a lot or have been comfortable with smaller sized sketchbooks then the mini should work out just fine!

Is it good enough to take note? as an alternative for ipad
@tsukepen
@tsukepen 2 года назад
Hello and thank you for the question! It depends on your style of note taking. I use one note and for that the mix of the keyboard and pen was nice. Some note taking apps aren't available on Android/Chromebook so I would look up and see if the ones you use are available. If they are I think this device is good for note taking. Hello and thank you for the question. I have not tried it out myself but I do believe illustrator draw should work just fine on the chromebook duet. If the app is on the play store it should be compatible! I can test it out in the next few days and let you know if it works!

tsukepen Hi! Thank you so much for answering my question! You don’t have to test it for me because I don’t want to take your time. Thank you for your video it was really helpful 👍🏻

As far as I know this device is wifi only. The only model offered here in Japan was wifi there may be other options in other regions but I don't remember seeing anything during my research.

Hello and thank you for the question. As far as I know there is only one model of the Chromebook duet with no variants at the moment. I hope that helps thank you

So umm where did you buy the pen (I already have the Chromebook)? Ps I’m a noob so yea
@tsukepen
@tsukepen 2 года назад
I'm sure you can buy the pen on many online retailers. I purchased mine at a Japanese electronics store but I'm sure your countries electronics stores or Amazon will carry them. Also I do not recommend Lenovo's usi pen as it had a lot of parallax. You should research another companies pen which might offer a better experience. Thank you I hope that helps!

@tsukepen

@@boba_bunbune7593 check on your countries amazon for USI pens haha that should be the simplest way to get one. Parallax is when the tip of the pen and the cursor on the screen shift apart, which makes drawing more difficult. Lenovo's usi pen has quite a bit of this so I would recommend another brand.

Ahh it might still be within a return window?! There have been some successors to the Duet as well by now so you might be able to find a good deal on this exact model. I would also recommend the penoval USI pen as it performed better than lenovos own with parallax.

Yes it does, any app on the play store in your region should be available on any recent chromebook!

Is Krita any viable option? For artist, aspecially amateurs? Have u tried it?
@tsukepen
@tsukepen 3 года назад
Hello and thank you for the comment! In the video my talking point on krita was that it has almost no touch gestures, which makes the form factor of the device you choose less important but it seems to be a good port of the desktop app. I haven't tested it extensively but the basic functionality is there and should work on most chromebooks. It is also free just like on pc. I'll try to test it out further and make a video thank you!

Which portable digital art device do you recommend if this Lenovo doesn't cut it?
@tsukepen
@tsukepen 3 года назад
Hello and thank you for the question. Typically my recommendation is those looking for a purely a drawing tablet and want the best portable drawing experience the iPad is my first choice. For people that need to do many types of work including occasionally draws something like the surface line of tablets I'd great! I do have to say though that there seems to be an alternative USI pen with less parallax called the penoval but I haven't had a chance to use it myself.
@Chris-Dodge
@Chris-Dodge 3 года назад
@@tsukepen Thanks for the suggestions. I would pick the Surface but I heard the Surface Pen has jitter issues to it.😶 About that Penoval pen I checked reviews on it and seems it doesn't support pen pressure hmm.
@tsukepen
@tsukepen 3 года назад
There are some solutions for the surface pen. Software like lazy nezumi and just installing wintab drivers over the windows ink drivers that are pre installed can help a lot. It is still not perfect but usable especially for a portable device if you have a proper workstation at home! Hmm I'll have to look into the penoval a bit more... The one I researched seemed to have pen pressure.

There are also other pens that are compatible with the surface and seem to be possibly better but again I haven't had a chance to use it myself. I would look into tablet pro, from their website you can find an alternative that seems to be pretty good and I want to one day try it out myself!

Yes... unfortunately USI pens are hard to find still to this day and it seems like most have parallax issues. The penoval USI pen seems to be better but i havent had a chance to test it myself. Thank you for the comment!

@tsukepen
@tsukepen 2 года назад
Hello and thank you for the comment! Sorry I don't quite understand, are you asking if the device itself has fans? It is a fanless device and I haven't really experienced it getting too hot but admittedly the app will probably crash before it causes too much stain on the components. Hope that helps!
