Can you round-trip it? Of course you can. The total drive is around 8 hours. The better question is: Should you drive from Miami to KeyWest in a day? It's a challenge because the time budget is low to make it back it back at a reasonable hour.
Ride along and decide for yourself if you want to attempt cruising to Key West and back...in ONE day.
My top reasons are: Visiting the Old Florida vibe, Cruising the Overseas Highway (one of the most scenic drives in the USA), AND, of course, walking Duvall Street and visiting Key West. Key West has so much, even if you're there for just a few hours. You can visit the famous conch houses, walk Duvall Street and take your picture at the Southern Most Point in the United States.
