Welcome friend! My channel is all about plant based whole foods, inspiration and information about this lifestyle. I love travelling so I've been creating videos to share some of the most amazing places on earth. (In my opinion! ) Check out my Adventure Series playlist if there's a place you're interested in. I also LOVE to cook healthy - without the hassle. I strive to formulate recipes that are easy to follow with minimal ingredients. In fact, most recipes can be covered in a short video. #wfpb #wholefoods #plantbased #vegantravel PlantBasedJan’s RU-vid Channel and videos are a compilation of information only and not intended to be substituted for medical, nutritional or other professional advice that may apply to you. Bandon is my favorite. Started staying there annually in 2007 renting a house overlooking Face Rock. So therapeutic watching the waves crash off the rocks. Great restaurants also. Love it there!
Where you turned around you can keep going to the right and take the Thompson Canyon loop. Which will take you up over the San waun mountains. Back into the south side of Moab ,Spanish Valley road. Your truck would be fine definitely need 4low. Don't take the left fork it goes to rose garden hill. Which would require a much more capable vehicle, this is the back way to top of the word. The onion creek Thompson Canyon loop is roughly 100 mile round trip from moab. Lots of RU-vid videos on this trail
Thank you! Yes, we figured the Top of the World area was out of our league Good to know about going right to continue on - it’s a little challenging to find decent maps.
One more question- what else would you recommend??? What am I missing? Not highly technical but doable - like onion creek or shafer trail through potash. Those were so amazing. It’s addictive.
Lots of interesting places to stop on chicken corners like the wind caves. I can't remember the trail name but takes you to a place called tusher tunnel that you can hike through, I thought it was one of the most amazing views I saw on our moab trip when you come out the other side. You can find RU-vid videos on each thing I mentioned
I moved from PA to coastal OR on Oct. 12 '23. That bridge you said is the Astoria bridge is actually called The Megler Bridge. I found this out while doing some OR coast exploring online. Two lighthouses in Newport? Where I live now, hmmm... I know of one - so I just did a search. I definitely have some exploring to do! 32:49 Those natural bridges are actually very dangerous to walk. You either have to know what you're doing or be ready to, well, die. I've yet to find any mention of wildfires on the coast (of OR).
You moved a long ways away! I agree, the Natural Bridges are so cool but I’m totally supporting other ways of exploring your new home. 🤣. The coast is a respite from the fires and smoke.
My sister, bro-in-law and nieces and nephews have lived in OR for a while now, but they're inland - in Monmouth. One of the factors I like about more western OR is no wildfires, but it's still possible to get smoke from wildfires. When I lived in southern Erie County PA, which borders Lake Erie, we got the smoke from the western Canada wildfires. Just a lil more than a couple more months and I'll have been in OR for one year. Thus far, a large majority of the summer has been in the 50s and 60s but with high humidity, usually as low as 80%(ish). Toward the end of winter, beginning of spring ('24) we had an ice storm and no power for about a couple days - ended up in a hotel. 101 was a mess. Lots of rain here but it barely snows. The extent of snow here is a dusting and it's gone quick.
I’ve been watching RU-vid since 2006 and this is by far one of the best channels. It’s really excellent: intelligent, well-photographed, interesting, and I love the way you’ve combined healthy eating with travel. I may be wrong, but do I hear a Canadian accent?😊
So nice to meet you! I’m humbled and inspired by your comment! 🥰 The inside scoop is that I love to travel and I love to cook (and eat, haha!). A few years ago I did a deep dive into nutrition and decided I needed to share my take on it with the world. Or, at least 7 people. 🤣 No, not Canadian but I’m up in Washington state so maybe they rub off on me, eh? Thanks for coming along on this roadtrip we call life.
You don’t have to ask a vegan if they are a vegan. They’ll tell you. Unprompted. Every time. I’m an omnivore lactose, gluten free person. Except when I eat a turkey and cheese Sam which.🙄
My goals are simple. I don’t want to support big pharma or factory farming. I also want be able to hike 15 miles whenever I want. 😎 That’s it. We’d get along fine.
We’ve stayed at a few different places over the years that were very reasonable. I can’t vouch for current prices, ownership changes etc. The Kon-Tiki in Islamadora, clean and basic. Captain Pips in Marathon. Some eclectic rooms. Sugarloaf Lodge worked well a few years ago. I’d check current reviews on everything and you should be able to find some gems depending on your schedule.
Prior to the Astoria Bridge the main crossing was a ferry, so glad I had the opportunity to ride the ferry. This is an wonderful video, thanks for sharing.
Riding that ferry would have been historical experience. Thank you for chiming in! I learned that the original ferry from the 1920s actually sank in Astoria waters.
Yes! We did. I’ve been properly scolded in the comments dozens of times. Florence is an amazing town so I’m planning to do another video on just that area. Stay tuned 😉
Always the dilemma but the vast majority just visit through their screens. Most people who do go in person provide positives - a bit more business to the locals and a new, inspired view of this place we all call home. I’m an optimist. 🥰
I am really surprised that you've mistaken Lincoln City for Neskowin which is very tiny town North of Lincoln City then missed much bigger town of Lincoln City over the pass and then mention the next tiny Depoe Bay 5 min drive throe ....which is known for their Whale Excursions...
A well-made video. I’m here in Newport. I couldn’t live anywhere else but the Oregon coast. I also lived in Waldport for four years. I love the bridge in Waldport.
Hi, love the video. I'm going to Zion in a couple weeks. Planning to rent e bikes as well, but was wondering. where exactly do you park your car before going to the ebike rental?
The place that we rented gave us a voucher for parking on the street which runs $15 or $20 for a full day. I believe they just deducted that amount from our rental fee. I recall that it was pretty easy to find street parking but we were there in October - so it might be tighter in August - not sure. Have a BLAST!
Right you are. Florence didn't makethis video but it is well worth the stop. It has coastline/mountains vistas/large sand dunes/inland lakes .. The lakes are only one mile off the coastal highway and they give you the feeling of being in a old growth forest of trees 100's of feet high. Florence has an Indian casino to entertain your nights.
LOVE THE CHANNEL I was wondering if you had to air down your tires to do the CATHEDRAL VALLEY LOOP??. We tried to go down the river forge south entrance to the loop and found it to be TOO ROUGH TO ENJOY for our stock pickup with fully aired tires ... We will try the North entrance when we go back in May so we can see if its a little smoother sobwe can see at least some of that road until we decide to turn around.. Is this section, (at least part of the way to TOTS TOTM) not as rough for fully aired tires??.TIA
No, We did not air down the tires. However! The north entrance is your ticket to a good ride. You’ll want to turn around at the end of the valley and you’ll have smooth sailing (relatively). 😍. Have a blast!
Love the Utah vids... we've been to all the mighty 5 and would list them ... #1 CAPITAL REFF #2 CANYONLANDS #3 ARCHES #4 ZION #5 BRYCE CANYON WE ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE CAPITAL REEF AREA AS A WHOLE.... We are heading back to Capital Reef next May to drive the Burr Trail for our second time and to explore our favorite np in the country... CAPITOL REEF... YOU DO A GREAT JOB!!
Those Utah parks are B UTAH-full. I’m with you. The only one I haven’t done a vid on is Bryce. A very good excuse to make another trip. Did you see my Shafer Trail vid - canyonlands? That was my favorite Sunday drive of all time. 😱
if any one ever stops in lincoln city hit up the Otis cafe its been around for 100 years since 1922 it use to be in otis oregon but sadly it burned and they moved to lincoln city best chicken fried steak around. if you like burgers there is burger 101 in lincoln city and for any sporting good needs there is lincoln city sporting goods down in depoe bay you have the horn inn and then down in newport you have the boardwalk its a great place to grow up and way more fun in the off season when us locals can have fun
I drove that Yampa Bench road....for about 3 miles. The level of fine silt on the road convinced me to turn around. I was still cleaning it up a week later.
Neskowin is our go to place. I'm from Salem currently living in Montrose Co. 16 years in a row for 4th. Always enjoyed the minimal wind and the water felt warmer for swimming plus the stores had everything without gouging. Neskowin will always be in my heart.
I think it's important to mention that the reason Oregon has SO much beautiful coastline is because in 1913, the Oregon Beach Bill decreed that all land within sixteen vertical feet of the average low tide mark belongs to the people of Oregon, and guarantees that the public has free and uninterrupted use of the beaches along Oregon's 363 miles of coastline. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to governor Oswald West! If you ever get a chance, you should visit the state park named after him - a walking path through old growth forest that crosses a beautiful little creek and leads to a gorgeous cove with a sandy beach popular with surfers. One of my favorite places in the world.
I've made this trip many times as my Wife was from Oregon. My favorite stop is always Pacific Oyster/The fish peddler in Bay City for an oyster po boy...
Thanks so much for this video and how well it is organized. It showcases such helpful information. Last week, we booked a 4 night stay in Bandon right on the beach. Now after seeing your video, I am so excited to be headed there!
We really need these influencers to stop marketing Oregon, we have way too many people moving here and trashing the state. Please stay out. Sincerely, a concerned native.
Very nice. You are very cute. Been to Key West many times. Good Lord willing I will be there for the 9th time in a week. Off of a cruise ship this time. So like you I will not have to pay for expensive Key West hotels. Lets make that the 4th reason to make it a day trip.
@@PlantBasedJan A few quick fun facts: - Bay City is actually home to the "Tillamook Country Smoker", a national brand of jerky/meat snacks (and which has a bit of rivalry with Tillamook Cheese over the use of "Tillamook" as a brand name). - Hebo is almost a ghost town _now_ ... but it used to have an Air Force radar station on top its nearby hill. - Bandon used to have a cheese factory (Bandon Cheese), until it got acquired by Tillamook Cheese. Their current cheese factory (Face Rock Creamery) is actually built on the same site as the previous factory.
I did the same thing a couple decades ago. Took me 6 months. But I stayed in Bandon two months. 😁 Was sad you didn't include Florence. 😊 Great video though. Well done.
Six months?! That is far better than 2 weeks. I’ve commented to a couple others that I’m going to do an exclusive video on Florence. There’s so much there with the sand dunes and the town features. Stay tuned. And thank you for the comment! 😉
