Not likely, as the muzzle brake is the same diameter as the barrel. Even if it did strike it, it wouldn't cause much damage either unless the muzzle brake in particular was very fragile. A hammer forged AK-74 muzzle brake couldn't care less about a bullet striking it.

Well technically the rifle he’s using has a muzzle break/compensator on it anyways....honestly You’d probably be fine, even if it did strike the break it’s unlikely the round or muzzle device would break apart.....now it could mess up your silencers so i wouldn’t recommend that

OUR Ammunition
@madmaxd1
@madmaxd1 3 года назад
Yes you can... and we did, but not voluntarily. About 30 years ago, me and my friends went to an empty field that we usually went for target practice. We would usually have our ammo loosely in separate ammo cans. We each had several platforms that fired 5.56 & 7.62X39 and we would usually reload our mags in between breaks and while the rifles cooled off. My friend grabbed his Hungarian preband AK and started shooting at some targets placed across this swamped field @ approximately 40 yds. or so.. Half way through his mag a round went off, but it's report was different. As we're looking down field, we noticed a projectile landing approximately 20 yds in front of us, skipping throughout the swamp and then realized that the firearm had a failure. We tried pulling the charging handle back, but it was stuck like Chuck. We tried your typical butt/bump charging technique against the floor several times until the bolt broke loose but, the bolt stripped off the cartridge. The cartridge was still stuck in the chamber, so we pulled the cleaning rod out, pushed it through the muzzle end and wacked it with a rock. The cartridge finally popped out, at that exact moment, we realized that it was a 5.56 casing. The brass cartridge, actually expanded to the contours of the 7.62 X 39 chamber upon detonation, with some visible stressed points but it never cracked nor ruptured. We later figured that we might of dropped a 5.56 round into the 7.62 ammo box and that the skipping splashes in the swamp was probably the bullet. We inspected the bore, thinking that the smaller caliber round might have fouled or possibly damaged it but everything looked find. We tested it with a single round then later ran a couple of mags with no issues nor failures. Gotta love them AKs....
@mattfleming86

I'm glad the lack of bore-fit kept the pressure low. Had that been a 5.45 chamber (and it somehow fully chambered) I imagine the case head would have easily separated.
@PolenarTactical

Correct There is so little pressure that most of the gunpowder wasn't even ignited. Even if it was, the big difference in bore diameter would let all the pressure out through the barrel

@@stevebuckley7788 If it was to be done intentionally, the way to have done it would have been to make all dimensions identical to 5.56 except with an additional 1mm OAL. Just enough to prevent chambering for enemy soldiers using your ammo without effecting your soldiers' ability or accuracy while using enemy ammo whatsoever. The differences between the 5.45 and 5.56 are almost certainly incidental.

@@mtnbkr5478 Yes I'm skeptical myself. It may be just cold war misinformation but I've heard it a lot. This test was actually performed over 35 years ago on a video entitled "Rifle Combat" by Gossier Arms. The test was to disprove that the NVA were using captured 5.56mm in their AK rifles. The 5.56 rounds would not stay in the mag, the round was forced into the chamber, fired and the neck ruptured. The projectile hit a water jug @ 15m and barely penetrated the plastic. getting hit by a tumbling round at close range would probably be one of the worst things a human being could experience x3

You an also shoot .40S&W through 10mm, although it relies on the extractor to hold round in place for firing pin strike, and it doesn't headspace on the front of the case.

You can also shoot .38 out of a .357 lol. Or how about .380 from a 9mm.

This makes me feel more safe. Because i had a 7.62 in my 545 box before and this just jammes the gun. But i was always afraid that the inverse could blow up my gun

Thank you for the video. After the 3rd (successful) attempt to shoot the 5.45mm it was interesting to scroll back and actually see the bolt not closing all the way on the two initial attempts.

I saw this happen at the range today. It loaded, chambered, and fired. The case ruptured and the projectile went somewhere. It scared the shit out of me and the guy shooting immediately put the gun down and backed up. Never seen that before

Just happened to me today. That's why I never bring new people with me but today I did. The AR version of 7.62 the mags from a .556 or .223 will fit in the lower because they are interchangeable. So the person I brought with me instead of fucking asking if he could shoot my fucking gun just grabs it while I'm messing with my other guns and decides to slap his .556 mag in a shoot. Jammed up my gun. Never again Will I bring new people to shoot with me. I'm still pissed off about it

I had this happen to me today 🙈 Took out my brand new Saiga MK103 to the range to sight it in and had someone else try it. They managed to mix up the ammo (we were also shooting my H&K MR223) and loaded a .223 and it actually fired on the first try. The casing split and was stuck in the chamber (not very tight, could be pulled out easily). The rifle obviously didn't cycle and there were loads of unburned powder and smoke. The projectile left the barrel and, as far as I can see from a simple visual inspection looking down the muzzle after cleaning (I don't have a bore scope), there was no damage to the rifling.

Can't think of the last time I saw 7.62x39 that wasn't steel cased. Thank God for the AK and cheap/surplus ammo.

The " smell" being different comes from the different priming compounds.in the US most steel case import rounds "smell" our cheap walmart shotgun rounds. Whole high end milsurp will smell like premium handlod primers.
