To answer your question, they do make water closets that have a 3" trap. Pressure assist water closets are over rated. Way too over ingeneered and very finicky. Toto makes the best water closets hands down. Pricy for sure but they can handle all the crap you can throw at it. Your friendly plumber.

Very accurate guys. Good job. I have done this same experiment to many different toilets. You did it correctly. Others have not. 2 points: A.) Brownies are not suitable. You would scream in agony if you tried to pass brownies. The standard test uses miso paste. It is called the MaP test which is now part of ASME A112.19.2/CSA B45.1. B.) Drop the test media 6 inches from the seat holes, about the middle of the sump (near the jet). You dropped it where a little toddler would sit. Trapway designs balance many different features from gravity, water consumption, ceramic glaze, manufacturing, patents, and efficiency. Features might seem counter intuitive, but every feature exists for a well defined and researched reason. Its just a matter of which brand emphasizes which features and to which end as there are trade offs. As a note, and you pointed it out: a cut in half toilet will not function as well as a full toilet. The dynamics of the plexiglass interfere with full proper function. But seeing inside is valuable. Finally, not in my wildest nightmares would I believe I would engineer toilets. I should be out in front developing throttled rocket engines. But toilets are rewarding because we have to do so much work with so little energy. It is a gigantic highly challenging engineering puzzle; taken for granted till it doesn't work.

What a cool experiment! I was always wondering about this because of the toilet that I saw in the grandparents house exhibit at the children’s museum in Boston, Massachusetts back in the 1980s. Half of it was cut away to make part of the house look like it was under construction Or show the unseen parts of house construction. After seeing that, I always wondered if half a toilet could be flushed.

Now I want to know what the difference between a cheap toilet and expensive toilet is. Do more expensive toilets have better trap designs?

5:55 I'm no plumber, but having a larger down pipe makes sense to me. If I get a clog in my toilet, I'd know that it'd be located within short snake distance reach within the toilet, and not "who knows how far down the pipe?" distance

As a plumbing company owner, I want one of these!

The reason why drain/sewage risers have vents at the top (roof of an apartment building not 100% sure if normal residential houses have them too) is because without them a solid flushed turd (and maybe even just dirty/clean water) would create a low pressure suction as it goes down the pipe which in turn would suck all the water out of all the traps. With a vent on the top it just pulls in fresh air behind it and leaves the traps full of water. (But the roof of an apartment building can stink near the vents...)

The trap is also a bell siphon. It’s a type of siphon that self starts when the flow and level is right. So the “flush jet assist thing” is to push the water level over the start point of the siphon and suck all the water out.

Now return the toilet xD

The term for the smaller hole in front of the flush hole is called a syphon jet. It helps the water push the poop down, and it reduces the chances of clogging.

Good point at the end. If you have a toilet or a sink that is never used....like in a laundry room in the basement or something. The water will eventually evaporate. Make sure to flush it when you can't see any water in the bowl. Or run the faucet. Or sewage gas will start to come out of the bowl.

I was attempting to set up system consisting of a water pump and bleach in the bowl in order to clean the holes below the circular rim from the inside, since they had accumulated dark mold. Undoubtedly the mold lives inside the circular rim water channel, so simply wiping the visible surface of the holes is useless. Recently I viewed another YT video demonstrating this pumpand bleach setup, then went out and bought a tiny electric pump and a gallon of bleach. Unfortunately this procedure failed for me because the bleach instead continuously recycled between tank and bowl (instead of between the tank and rim holes). I presumed there was a hidden secondary water pathway from tank to bowl, and this video proved it, beginning at 9:30. This was a fascinating and very educational video and I am super happy that I found it. Now, what should I do about the moldy rim holes (that is inaccessible via the pump and bleach method) ?

The best way to unclog a toilet(well at least it always worked first try for my whole life) is to take a bucket, fill it with water and dump it quickly in the toilet. i never had that trick fail.

For the record, the traps that are installed on sinks, toilets, and showers aren't just to block the smell. Those same smelly sewer gasses are also flammable and can explode if an ignition source is nearby, which used to happen all the time and killed many people.

Imagine coming to a public restroom and just seeing this, they seem to run out of budget.

Human waste usually has the same reaction when it’s wide. When it is long, It can easily pass. It’s mainly the wide ones that clog the toilets. Because it sticks to the sides of the Trapway.

When I was a kid my parents gave us a bunch of lessons on what to do in a house fire. One of them was if you are stuck in the bathroom and the room is filling up with smoke to rip the flexable metal tube on the showerhead off (assuming your shower even has one) and snake it down the toilet until you hit the "fresh air pocket". The idea is you breathe that air instead of the smoke....I'm not too sure how keen I am on breathing sewer gasses.

American toilets are weird. UK toilets use a syphon to dump the water out the cistern into the bowl, but there's a lip around the bowl instead of little holes, and that's where all the water comes out, there isn't a hole at the bottom to help force things through. And usually our toilets send their contents straight out the back into a large pipe, rather than down through the floor.

This is the video we should watch at least once in your whole life. Now we know how it works.

That’s a Glacier Bay toilet, presumably the worst of toilets ever made, due to its tiny trapway. These do frequently back up, compared to older toilets with larger trapways. My father’s childhood home had a 1916 bathroom, and the toilet never plugged.

One thing to do if a toilet gets clogged is not flush it again. Turn the water off and use a 2.5 gallon bucket filled with water to act as the water tank, dump it in (to an empty bowl) so the force of the water helps create the syphon effect at the bowl outlet hole. Always use and refill the bucket, this will eliminate the bowl overflowing on the floor. And save the brownies, the actual baked brownies, for a snack later.

Raycon e25 earbuds are actually amazing. Solid 8/10. Only downside is the cost. But they're worth it.
