@@swarls2520 You don’t understand our second amendment in the Bill of Rights, our intrinsic right to possess effective means of self-defense is a part of this country’s fundamental laws; it’s a human right and its here to stay. Also, gun violence is much more nuisanced than you think; so banning them isn’t the right thing to do. If anything, we should learn what Switzerland is doing right.

To get rid if the cloudy side of the glass use really high grit sand paper in steps. Like 1000, 2000 and 3000 to see if it clears it up. A friend left a glass gallon water jug in her car in Arizona. The floor carpet melted and almost caught fire but she was only in the store a short time.

@@DavidSprings, it’s true for cubes too, same with any 3D object. The volume of a sphere is 4/3*pi*radius^3, and a cube is width^3. Both have a dimension to the 3rd power as the important bit

The volume of a sphere grows to the cubic of its radius, so for double the volume you need the cubic root of 2 times the original radius (about 25% more radius) so a sphere with r=8 has more than double the volume of a sphere with r=6

An 8 inch sphere is actually over twice the area of a 6 inch sphere. 113 inch³ and 268 inch³ respectively, which is nearly 2.5 times the size (which explains why the bigger one seems to weigh 3 times as much).

Pretty sure, too. I started following water jet channel through the demolition ranch channel. But they are not the only ones who like to blow some glass. Backyard scientist also did something similar on that, using cube, pyramids and a sphere made out of glass.

An 8" ball is more than twice the size of a 6" ball. A 6" ball has a volume of 905"^3, an 8" ball has a volume of 2145"^3.

I remember watching a show where they walk into a fortune tellers hut and after they're about to leave all mystified and shit and the person notices them draping the crystal ball and asks if its to keep spirits from escaping or something and fortune teller bluntly says "nah, it's just to avoid starting a fire" and you could tell the person that asked was so disappointed/embarrassed.

Hey guys, I run a jet at a glass fab shop and punch holes in glass all day long. 40,000 PSI with a vacuum assist to pull the garnet through before the water comes on will absolutely bore a hole straight through it.

Fun fact: A six inch sphere has a volume of about 900 cubic inches. An 8 inch sphere has a volume over 2100 cubic inches. So, the 8 inch ball is actually MORE than double the size if the six inch one!

My guess is that when the ball was cut in half, its internal structure was disturbed. This allowed the water and gas to penetrate it causing the frosting of each half. Pretty much like milky quartz.

You should heat the entire glass ball in an oven and then drop it into the "soup" below the water cutter instead, the ball will then explode from thermal shock

1:24 so the first ball has a diameter of 6/2=3, resulting in a volume of 113.1 in^3 and the second one 8/2=4 which means a volume of 268.08 in^3, so, it is a little more than double the size

Since garnet is much harder than glass you might get a hole through the sphere if you reduce the pressure.

I think a sloped start for the pierce could have helped, I regularly pierce thick glass at work with a 45000 psi waterjet and it works just fine if you start at 0 PSI

Can you adjust the minimum PSI on the nozzle - Ramp up to drill hole in glass ball? - Maybe use a piece of metal and glass with a gap to start the process?

The 6 inch sphere would have 113 cubic inches of material while the 8 inch would have 268 cubic inches of material. Which equals out to about 2.3 times heavier! Which is super close to the very off the cuff 3 times heavier estimate.

The volume in inches ³ of a 4 inch radius sphere should be over double that of a 3 inch radius sphere. That's why it looks so much bigger.
