You seem like a good guy trying to do the right thing.... By informing the public. So don't mention the trolls on your videos. That is what they feed off of... ignoring them is the best retaliation. 👍👍👍
Not sure why you turned on me, but you used to be very supportive of the channel. I have 33 comments from you in the past 10 months, and up until I didn't reply to one of your questions about updating the DJI Go4 app, they were all quite positive. Then you turned against me. Not sure what's going on there.
@@51Drones Hey buddy a shout out from New Zealand. Havent really followed too closely but just remember you are always surrounded by idiots. Protect youself at all times. Keep your chin up and keep up the good work. We the silent majority who follow you are learning all the time, appreciate your time and energy. Cheers.
Thanks for the tips. Will be flying with my RC club in a couple of weeks at nite. Did it last year. What a blast! Get some altitude and spiral down with the yaw; Quite a light effect! Flying an Autel X-Star Premium.
Good tips thanks. For night footage I’ve mostly seen people recommend never taking your iso above 400 and instead increasing the shutter speed. A high iso causes more noise in the picture.
I like your Channel I just ordered a DJI mavic Mini. one of the reasons I started watching your channel is because of your left ear are you still roll a lot and my ears are gnarled. Brothers of the Mat
Thanks 4 the update on night flights. The video from Orange in Iceland was great. The shot over the cristal clear river with the sky reflection was gorgeous. Just got my mavic last week & I hope to be able to take some footage like this in the future.
Excellent video thanks. Just watched the part1 Iceland vlog. I experimented with night flying by hanging 4 bicycle lights pointing downwards as markers, on a bebop2.
Thatnk you for the info from both videos very helpful. Im a mechinac and have driven alot of things but flying a drone is alot different. I watched your videos before i bought my drone rhank you for all your help
It's Summertime in Oregon just went paddling. Orange 83 is keeping me indoors too much. It's a wintertime site, you might have waited. Thanx ...great info. Bud
I’ve noticed the same thing in regards to the focusing of the Mavic pro. The auto focus isn’t very good at night conditions. I’ve tried the manual focus with much better results though. I didn’t even know there was a manual focus adjustment until a few weeks ago. Thanks for the video!
You can't change designation between 107 and hobbyist (or the other way around) DURING the flight. You must choose one or the other before you take off and stick with the protocols of the designation you chose preflight.
I've been doing a bit of research myself before my first flight - just ordered my first drone the other day! It has been pretty confusing with part 107, section 336, etc, etc, and not night flying specifically, but the "leash" you mentioned was something I thought existed if you want to go beyond being a hobbyist. Thanks for clearing this up for me! Also, I watched and subscribed to Orange 83's channel - thanks for the recommendation.
Watched the Orange 83 videos and subscribed to both him and you. Just got a Mavic 2 noticed It has manual focus, that should help with the focus drift at night.
Thank you very much for taking the time to make the videos you do.I'm buying my first Drone and your videos has answered a lot of questions..Thank You..
Mavic Pro on focusing is so true! I am a cert. pilot sUAS and live in the D/FtWorth area and is all class B & D airspace so even if I fly at night unless I'm at a *AMA field* then you have to have a waiver to my knowledge? Where you are might be E or G air space and what you say is correct. Just mentioning that the air space makes a difference as a hobbyist. I use Airmap and it is good for letting me know where I can fly and how high. You no doubt have your 107 now so enjoy and be safe and I did enjoy your video. :-)
The Mavic 2 series is available!!! Click here to purchase: click.dji.com/ALX5_HBsZdHZdioz3rpUzg?pm=link and I will drive to your house and give you a hug. (Not really, but for sure a big virtual hug!) It really helps this channel!
Got the Mavic 2! Super drone! Also watched Orange83's video. Also brilliant. I'm in New Zealand so not in contention for any give aways but just want you to know that I did watch it and I do enjoy your videos! Great job and keep up the good work. It is appreciated.
51 Drones. Incase you are anyone else would like to be extra safe. These lights are great for night flying, or in overcast weather. When I say super bright I truly mean it. I have the white strobe on top red on the left side & the green on the right side. For extra safety. www.firehousetechnology.com/store/p54/%22ARC%22_Strobe_Lighting_Navigation_Kit_for_DJI_Drones_UAS_Quadcopters_Multirotors_%284_Light_Set%29.html
Awesome video Russ. I’ve got a great deal of really useful information from this . I did my first flight several weeks ago at dusk, and I almost ‘cacked’ my pants. I agree, the MP is a totally different beastie when it’s dark and visual line of sight is so important. Best wishes to all the family.
Your information is amazing and I just want to say thank you for all of your help. I’m a new drone pilot and have enjoyed watching and learning from all of your tips and advice about piloting a drone.
My video is what sparked the whole conversation. Ken took it a step further by contacting FAA representatives, which is good. My info was attained from a drone attorney, so both videos had very solid sources. Thanks for commenting! It's the best part of RU-vid - interacting with you guys. I respond to every single message, because I think if you take the time to leave a message, I should take the time to respond.
Watched Orange 83. Iceland videos. Great video and pictures. Thank you for the night flying tips, i will check and see what it has to say for Night flying in the U.K
Awesome video from Orange 83. Please do not pick me for the lights as I am waiting for the Mavic Pro II to come out and I only have a Phantom 3 at this time.
Beautiful stuff from orange 83. I've been considering some night flights and usually only do till the middle to end part of the sunset. Thanks on the settings. Will try out soon and see how it does.
Here in Australia you are not allowed to fly your drone at night as a hobbyist. However, as a commercial drone pilot with the proper training and exemptions from CASA you can fly at night. Thanks for posting the video, as always informative and educational.
Added 2 new subscriptions- 51Drones and Orange83. Great Stuff! I'd love to be chosen as the recipient of those lights, only if they fit my Mavic, otherwise I hope someone else enjoys them. Again, good stuff!
Hi Russ, another great video and I love the walking around. We can't fly at night here in Australia, only half and hour before and after sun up/down. Nobody can go wrong shooting in Iceland, its such a magic place. Orange 83's video was great and if anyone wants to see more Nigel Danson has some good stuff too. Thanks again. Cheers
You should update the discription and ad the FAA Advisory Circular 91-57B to the list. Visual line of sight is only one part, you also need to see whats on the ground under the drone, like people an vehicles.
Since Orange 83 had to pay to enter Kerid crater, I've asked if special permission was required to fly there. Our national parks just say no. But you're right. He made the Mavic Air look amazing!
Orange83 has awesome footage. I hope to learn from him and be able to gather some footage similar to his. Love the info you put forth. Keep up the good stuff. Thanks
I believe in the U.S., in order to fly at night you also need anti-collision lights, as both a hobbyist and a part 107 pilot. I could be wrong but that's my understanding. I bought a very bright strobe light for the top of my drone just to be on the safe side. Great video and thanks for the info!
It is not just revenue that separates the hobbyist and 107 flights. If the flight does not produce revenue, but is in the furtherance of a business, even a not-profit, it comes under 107. Otherwise, a great video.
Thank you. Great informative video. Its great he keeps reassuring the audience that his information is correct and accurate.....i dont like those that arent exactly sure with the subject matter and always offer vague statements, like "....you MAY..." instead of "you WILL"....lacking definiteness of accuracy of information.
I always heard couldn't fly at night but I had done my own research and found out I could and I been night flying for a year now. As u I also dont have 107 yet but studying for it. Thanks for the info to oranges page and keep up the good work bud!!!
I fly 3-4 times a week at night, what I use to keep site of my Mavic Pro is bicycle strobe lights. Both EBay and Amazon have. Them and they come in white or red and have 4-5 different strobe modes.. they strap on with a rubber O ring type strap. I prefer the white strobes and mount one on the underside of the rear arms. They are rechargeable and about $10 a pair.
Tonight in Colorado the sun set was so beautiful. I got my drone out just to go straight up and see if I could take a picture. Started it up took off and it went out of control and flew into a tree. Broke 3 propellers. Do I have to turn of some setting? It wasn't even that dark out side.
Large tin buildings nearby can cause this to happen. It’s happened to me once. Also make sure the compass is calibrated and u have atleast 9 satellites locked or more before take off
Hey Russ. Yep, that’s one great video on Orange 83’s visit to Iceland. You are so right on his spot on post production editing! Also great info on drone night flights. Best of luck with attaining your FAA part 107 in the USA.
Thanks for the info. I love all your video's. I finally just ordered a Mavic Pro Platinum. I have been researching for weeks and all your video's have helped. Also, thanks for sharing the info about Orange 83. The Iceland video was stunning. I will definitely be watching more of their video's to help me learn to edit. I subscribed to their channel. Keep up the great video's. Have a wonderful day.
good info ....my nephew launched his mavic downtown from hotel balcony and got great photos but it scared the crap out of me just seeing lights out there to go by....I will need to practice with my phamtom 4 v2.0 in a field down the road first....cheers...thank..
Both great videos. Subscribed to both. Currently flying a newly purchased Mavic Air along with my son’s Spark and learning a lot as we continue to fly. Thx for the tips and info!
WOW! Got my new mavic pro and I've had one flight so far. I just watched your vid on lenses and got a set, but I was sitting here thinking ide like to watch a vid on editing and boom as usual I got info on night flying and editing. Your always on top of things and I love your vids, thanks
Nice video. You did a good job on the rules and explaining the use of the lights. Thanks. Now to find a set of lights if you don't pick me. But I know you will!!
I own a Mavic Air and I’m really in to it. I’m still starting out and exploring on what the drone can do!!! I always wondered if you could fly a drone at night... After watching your vid it really helped me feel a little better flying it at night and be more cautious around the dark. Just watched Orange 83’s Iceland Vlog and I can’t get over how beautiful Iceland is. I mean come on Iceland is spectacular in every corner!!! If ever my family and I will visit Iceland and enjoy the amazing spots it has for us and for sure grab a bite from Burros and of course get some awesome shots from my Mavic Air.
That was great. I didn't think it was allowed but use common sense, and do it a lot. As far as setting m seeing and avoiding aircraft YOU ARE MUCH SAFER! The lights are visible for miles. Interesting point about the fixed focus vs variable. I've found the same thing.
I just brought a dji mavic air. The main purpose is to do my paranormal research so i need to fly at night to shot the footage of the paranormal area and make a maping from above. Thanks for the advice.
At about 9:50 you pointed up towards your left shoulder for a video on adjusting the camera, but you never put the link, Orange 83 has beautiful clear video. It's awesome.
Russ, thanks for the link to orange83. Really enjoyed it and subbed. Appreciate your info on night flying. I guess it took me a couple of months to realize that you can fly both as a hobbyist and a 107 - but not at the same time, if you take off as a hobbyist, you are a hobbyist until you land & if you take off as a part 107, you are a part 107 until you land. Thanks again and I really appreciate your series, I know that I have a lot to still learn.
Wow, that was an awesome video of Iceland and its wonderful scenery! Thank you very much for what you do! I have learned so much about my Mavic Pro by watching your channel!
Hi. Good video. I would think that if someone wanted to report that night flight as a nuisance or, whatever, they might tend to come after you as a Part 107 pilot and not as a hobbiest. One of the regs of a 107 pilot is that they have to provide proof of certification upon request by law enforcement.
I fly strictly hobby for fun, , I was wondering about the night flying, because I live in a small town and was thinking of sending my drone straight up clear of the trees and try to take a video of the fireworks across town, maybe 2 miles away this 4th of July...I have a Q500 4K and you are right it has plenty of lights on it and I will just be hovering in place while taking the video, when I am done it will come straight down again .......
I saw the vidéo of orange. Really impresive travel vidéo I took some note as visit hot tub early in the morning! Thaï be great to visit Island with great new Light by night 😃
I didn't watch the entire video but I wanted to point out is when your up 100-200 feet at night have a spotter and listen for airplanes, and helicopters flying nearby it's difficult to judge what altitude they are flying at you can see the lights hear the noise. Sometimes small jets or light aircraft have their engines at low power as they are descending down to an airport. I'm just on the edge but not inside the 5 mile radius of an airport doesn't get lot of night traffic. Helicopters such as police helicopters fly over frequently one thing I don't want to do is get those guys all fired up over my drone I find it best to just land quickly long before they are near where I'm flying. I like taking night pictures when there is no wind with long shutter openings get some great city shots of fixed lights with streaking reds from cars driving by. I found video not to be as interesting as still shots are can't wait for summer thunderstorms I can get some great lighting shots.
