I love your channel and I’ve followed you since I was a medical student. I’m now in the middle of F2 and as much as I enjoy being a dr, I feel so so burnt out. All the hobbies I had before have gone and I’ve lost contact with a lot of friends. I think that the only way to have a work life balance is to not work full time as a dr and to not go on a training pathway. Seems like a sad reality.
Thank you for being a long time follower - I always appreciate your comments and support ❤️ 🥰 so sorry to hear you're burnt out. The struggle is real. Especially at the time you've entered the workforce! NHS work is so hard right now. I know what you mean about full time work because it is crazy that 40 hours as a doctor is considered 'part time'. BUT, I will say two other things: 1) I do think work-life balance is possible on training pathways (especially if you go part time!) Once you're working in one field and not rotating every four months there is less mental load from constantly switching jobs into totally new roles. I've found I can cope much better with working lots of hours a week now I know the job I'm doing very well, compared to when I was in foundation years. 2) Losing your hobbies and friends due to work is SO sad. And really common. And I think that's part if why so many people are burnt out - you are giving away a part of your identity in return for your job. This definitely doesn't have to be the case and I hop that gets better for you. Let me know if you'd ever like to book a coaching call 😘
Oh, it's so good to see you guys are still together. I recently started dating a consultant doctor (who just left the NHS because people were mean) and I'm so nervous if I'm just wasting time so I really like getting a confirmation that it's possible to be with a doctor❤
Ouch, that's a difficult one to navigate. Focus mostly on yourself and the job you have to do. Have you read The Courage To Be Disliked? If not, I'd highly recommend it.
As someone who’s 25y marriage to a cardiologist ended mainly due to this - I’d say it’s difficult. It depends on thr Dr. You need to be ruthless about being off duty when you aren’t at work.
