With the licensing expo of 2024 coming to a close, it was revealed on Twitter/X that none of the current 3/4 scale home arcade compaines are in attendance which could mean that those new arcade cabinets that you're wanting might not be in reach for the foreseeable future. It's kind of crazy to think John might be the home arcade scene's only hope... then again, in hindsight, he might have been the only one really making it happen all along.

It would be cool if Raw Thrills got into the 3/4 scale business. They have a bunch of the licensing already, they just have to scale it down and there may be opportunity there.

I think Time Crisis and maybe the Fast and the Furious (Unless that was released last year. I forget the exact release date) are the only new titles we got this year. At this point we're probably going to see re-releases of the same handful of cabs, with maybe a few secondary games rotated in and out on a yearly basis. Honestly I'm surprised we got spectate mode on Mortal Kombat after all this time. I think the future of the 3/4 scale home arcade space is going to be diy projects. You've got Unico putting out the Nova Blast, you've got Glenn putting out control panel accessories and his 1/6 scale Build-A-Cade and working with New Wave toys, and you've got channels like 19KFox buying deluxe Street Fighter cabs, swapping out the PCBs, and adding new artwork to make new cabs. John D was the driving force behind Arcade1Up, so it makes sense he's the only one showing up because he's really the only one who understood the importance of establishing a brand. Cyrus is a smiley face emoji that somehow gained sentience.

@@MikeOfAllTrades lol Nice. Honestly it's the perfect description. I don't think I ever saw an interview or presentation where he actually said anything of substance. Most of the time he just kind of sat there, grinning from ear to ear, making generic comments.

MOAT, I like these hot take videos. Also glad to hear John D was at the license convention. I always thought, because John D. was so successful getting licenses for cabs I thought I'd never see, Donkey Kong would eventually happen. And now that he isn't under the banner of Arcade1Up anymore, If he's going to jump back into the 3/4 scale game, I would love to see him bump into ol' Nintendo and see if they can work some magic. I, of course didn't want to wait and see if all the players would finally get together and make a 3/4 scale Donkey Kong happen. I opted for an unlicensed version, which if you're curious to see how another company fared, I put a new video review out for it. But again, if anyone could get the license, I think it would be John D. And to anyone who still says a licensed 3/4 Scale Donkey Kong will never happen can provide me definitive proof instead of all this hearsay based upon Nintendo's history. Great topic as always! vgv

John was actually passionate about what he did and his hard work was reflected in the titles we got. Now team zoomer has no passion for any of the products, because they're from a different generation. Personally, just give me the entire sf and tekken series up to 3 on xl's and I'll never ask for anything again. Stretch goal cvs series in xl.

Absolutely agree with you. Even to this day the care and concern that he has for these games shine through. I remember him once saying the only thing that matters to him was his job and his family. That shows in the work ethic

Just give me Smash TV and head off into the sunset, that's all I want, Robotron will work, but been way too much hype around that title for it not to pay off at this point

I try to look at the positive by my count there has been over 30-35 options to licensed games you can own from 1up since 2018. That’s quite a lot of licenses so I’m grateful for that. Also grateful they were able to release so many because if they didn’t and we got to this point now we would have half of these options available. So yes I’d love to see more but if it doesn’t happen I have enough to fulfill my home arcade dream and can always head to my local arcade once a month to play the ones I don’t own

I personally would like to see a Daytona USA cabinet. Instead of fast and the furiousa! Also a Super Street Fighter 2, not turbo, but the original and first Super.

Original Turbo would be really cool. Daytona is on everyone's wish list but idk if the sting from F&F has passed past people yet

Great video and analysis. Yea, hard to believe they are looking for anything "new" if they aren't there actively pursuing them. The only other side to that is to assume that they already have the licenses to games we haven't seen yet and they are shopping them around to retailers to see who bites (Like Arcade1up supposedly did with AvP) or waiting to develop them for some as yet unknown reason. In either case, it's not great for us as consumers hoping to see something new and interesting to keep our interest in this hobby alive if we don't see some movement on the part of these companies.

I do believe that they have licenses that they're not currently using, but are they titles that people want, or is it going to be or are they products that people are going to settle upon purchasing just to have something new. See, i miss these talks where we could just debate/discuss things

I don’t know how I feel about this. I recently had to get my player 1 joystick replaced on my MvC2. I cracked the plastic deck protector during the repair and they replaced it for me. I would love to see Arcade1Up thrive but it’s looking like things are winding down. My guess is that they are preparing to pivot to a different type of 3/4 arcade product or into offering some type of paid services. My interest is still in long term support of my arcade1up machine. But if they don’t monetize it I don’t think that they can continue to support the current owners. I know I’m not a reflection of their core audience

Well with high inflation who has the money to buy these new titles and might be why we don't see new titles. I think maybe next year you will see some new cabs. Maybe the economy will be better next year interest rates will be lower, gas prices will be lower.

I wonder if A1up is having a hard time getting the ball rolling again, so they sort of put things on hold? Maybe because retailers are very finicky now since places like walmart kind of got burned in the past. This could be why retailers are very adamant about certain titles. Hard sales because even many of us have been burnt in the past as well. Is it like a stalemate?

This is a problem i called years ago... when they kept putting out pac man.. they need new ips and need to raise the bar. 90s 2d is good, but they need to move onto 3d now or they are just done for.
