The BarDown crew is back with a new trivia challenge...naming 50 NHL teams. Anything from 1917 onwards is fair game, no "Mighty Ducks," though (sorry!)
I was able to name 46. The teams I couldn't remember: Montreal Maroons , Hamilton Tigers , St. Louis Eagles , Philadelphia Quakers , and Quebec Bulldogs. The reason I still have 5 teams left over is that I used the Seattle Metropolitans. I know that they technically weren't in the NHL, but in 1917 they became the first American team to win the Stanley Cup by beating the Montreal Canadiens.
Cougars and Falcons were just name changes for the Red Wings. Since they didn't relocate, it would've been equivalent to saying Mighty Ducks and Ducks. The Seattle Metropolitans were not apart of the NHL, they were in the PCHA.
@@jacobbrand7465 that goes out of the board as an excuse with Toronto St pats and Toronto arenas ( and right before that it was officially simply the Toronto Hockey Club ) and Metropolitans as far as i know has not been chosen YET for the future Seattle team, the only other teams i accept as only "slight changes" would be California Seals and golden seals, and the NY Americans and Brooklyn Americans ( specially when they stayed in same Arena )
Hunter Coyle We f'king loss everyone in 4 years. Hanzal, Smith, DeAngelo, Duclair, Doan, Yandle, Stone, Vermette, Gagner, Korpikoski, Cunningham, Dubnyk, Boedker, Michalek (stuck in AHL), OEL's talent, and our close relation to Auston Matthews.
Greatest theme song ever! As a Connecticut native, we only have a few good things, the WWE headquarters, drum corps, and we used to have the Hartford Whalers! I grew up as a Hartford Whalers fan (switched to Bruins once the Whalers moved, but always will be a Whalers fan!) I was 10 when the Whalers moved from Connecticut, and was really into watching hockey back then (still am). The theme song still gets played at local parades here in Connecticut! There have been talks of the idea of Hartford Whalers coming back to Connecticut but I doubt if that will ever happen. It would be pretty epic though!! They did create a Connecticut Whale team in the National Women’s Hockey League, but it’s a completely different logo, and not quite the same as the traditional Hartford Whalers as we know them. The Connecticut Whale are located in Danbury Connecticut (located on the border of New York). Also Hartford Connecticut is about 7 hours or so from Quebec. I’ve been there a few times before. I used to have a box of Whalers jerseys I got from a garage sale when I was a kid but my parents had me get rid of them at one point. Wish I held on to them!
The New York Americans moved practices to Brooklyn and became the Brooklyn Americans at some point, but they were stuck playing in MSG because they forgot they had to build an arena before they could actually move, and then the league just stopped letting them be a team lol
gotta say. as someone who wants more of these videos but also as a video editor. i can understand that you have to go through all the clips and put them in order from which they were said so that takes alot of time so props to the TSN bardown video editor
These videos are cool, but you should have just let them try and remember 50 straight NHL teams, like in the other videos. Oh yeah ... and bring back the Hartford Whalers!
Loved the pat verbeek mention! When i see him at family Christmas this year ill let him know he was mentioned not often people are talking about uncle pat!
what about the original Ottawa Senators who were around 1917-1934 and then were resurrected as the Current Senators we know now in 1992. they infact are older then all of the NHL original six teams if you include their participation in other leagues starting in 1883 though they had several names until 1908 when they settled on the name Senators which would make them older then any other team in the league by one year before Montreal.
Note for Jesse: Wanderers is a fine name. It originated with English soccer teams who didn’t have a home stadium. They just “wandered” around kicking everyone’s butts on their own turf
Z: Calls Luca a fool through a short clip for saying John Tavares won’t stay in New York Luca a few months later: Well well well, how the turntables...
At 8:20 they said that the Hartford whalers played in a mall, and they were like who plays in a mall but the Verizon center is basically connected to a mall
In the early 1900s, baseball was the most popular sport in America. So new teams often copied baseball team name. So in the NHL we ended up getting the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Colorado Rockies. And I believe the NFL also had the Pittsburgh Pirates (sorry if I am mistaken or missed any teams)
The Steelers were known as the Pirates from 1933 to 1940. It was also the name of a WPHL (Western Pennsylvania Hockey League) team. The owner of the WPHL team also owned the MLB team.
Sam Maltz how could a non nhl team beat the Montreal Canadians in the Stanley cup final I don’t think in modern day the Cleveland monsters can compete for the cup The metropolitans did fold but where in the original 6 area when they folded
@@peytonthompson205 The Stanley Cup used to be the challenge cup for pro teams and the Allan Cup (still around) was/is the challenge cup for amateur teams
It's interesting how different people remember different things. I knew more old teams than most of these guys but in the ones where they name players I couldn't come close to how much and how many players they know
Technically, there are two separate Ottawa Senators teams (1917-1934 and 1992-present) and two separate Winnipeg Jets teams (1980-1996 and 2011-present), so it should total 52 in all. An argument could also be made for two Edmonton Oilers teams, judging by the way they are playing this playoff season.
Jesse didn’t cry when he came out of the whom, he made a noise that could be heard throughout the hospital Leeeeeettttttttttttsssssssss! Gggggooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!
