It might be because the butternut pumpkin is so much smaller. I always wondered when I saw their videos if they used a smaller version would it have worked better? Their pumpkins are always so big. Hilarious outcomes though.😂

Regarding knife cuts - I think you're probably right because they sell a "pumpkin knife" here that is basically a thick aluminum saw blade with totally rounded edges to ensure nobody can cut themselves on it. Since pumpkins are a relatively squishy material it just pokes through about as easily as a regular knife. Just with a much larger kerf, obviously, but that doesn't matter with carving a pumpkin.

After seeing other resin pumpkin attempts, I get concerned about the internal void under the lid and the inevitable bubble.
@sparkyprojects
@sparkyprojects 7 месяцев назад
There's probably some air trapped under the lid, wonder if that's going to affect the rotting process eventually, should have poked a breather hole before casting If you do something like this again with the wire, carve a short slot in the underside of the resin base to allow the cable to bend as you take it out, did you forget release agent ? One idea would be to wrap the cable around the base with tape and turn just the top into a curve ;)

Pouring the resin in, in a way that there was a hole at the highest point on the pumpkin to void out as much air as possible from the pumpkin may have reduced the small amount of shrinkage/decay that did happen. It was Cool to see how well it held up, even with some air still inside the pumpkin.

What you could do is seal the inside with resin first so there is less bubbles. You put hot glue or tape on the outside of the eyes, nose and mouth. Then fill inside with resin. Then don't carve the flesh from the top of the pumpkin. Then when it's cured you can put it back into the bucket and fill the rest up. Evan and katelyn on RU-vid did a resin pumpkin and it's lasted years 😂

This was neat. I do have a suggestion: Go ahead and buy (and fill with resin) a pumpkin now, for next years video. That way you can do a 1 year update on both! Also, another suggestion, place micro holes (approximately the size of tooth picks) to allow any trapped air to release from the top of the pumpkin head.
