AJ I thought that this video was going to be about the process for putting an iron shaft -either parallel or taper-into a hybrid head and the calculations to figure out how much to trim from these shafts etc. in other words, the club builder how to video. Cheers.
I was actually talking about this same issue on the MGS forum the other day. I have a set of 4-LW Recoil Proto 125 Stiff shafts but I don't play a 4 iron and may even retire my 5 iron and replace them with hybrids. So I was trying to determine if I could do exactly what this video is about. As long as I have hybrids the taper tip shafts fit, I should be good. Thanks for the great video and content.
A while back I cut down my 3 hybrid 17 degrees to 6 iron length. This is now a very versatile club. I use it for hitting low 150m shots under trees and is great for chipping on links courses with the shorter shaft. More feel and control around the greens. Cutting it down has made the head a lot lighter. Should I add lead tape? Also, what if I put an actual 6 iron shaft into the head instead? Would this lessen the feel and would it hit the ball further? I love tinkering with golf clubs so love your informative channel.
You didn't mention anything about swing weight differences. I would guess that heavier iron shaft would decrease the swingweight, unless you are able to adjust the weights in the head or add weighted tape. Was the iron shaft same length or shorter than the hybrid shaft this should also influence swingweight.
Interesting video AJ. Just a little less spin with the iron shaft and a little flatter flight as a result. I think you could game the iron shaft in the hybrid with a little bit of work, and maybe with a tweak of the cog, assuming Mizuno has an adjustable hosel.
Just bought a new 2 hybrid with a Mitsubishi MMT 80X shaft. Got a great price. I usually use a R shaft. Do you think a MMT 80R iron shaft would work ? I have a new uncut one.
good video. i have done the opposite and put hybrid shafts on my 4,5 and 6 iron to match my driving iron. is there a benefit versus using a graphite iron shaft?
I question your presumption. Even if you have 120g shafts in your irons and 75g in your hybrid, if the swing weights come out the same, then you shouldn't feel the difference. As you know, the weight of the head is as important as the weight of the shaft. I'd be curious what the change in swing weight was when you swapped out the shaft.
I know I’ve seen tons for articles about putting a driver head on a 3W shaft. But I’ve never seen it the other way. I don’t even have a DR in my bag. My 3W is my “driver” and I hit it very well. I’ve had the thought of getting a second identical shaft but just at DR length. Thinking the extra few inches will increase club head speed and get a few more yards out of it. But is that doable? Not sure if the flex needs to change or shaft weight or I might lose accuracy. And ideas on it??
Your irons were Project X 6.0 shafts. Why didn't you try those in the hybrid? I wonder what the result would be. Since a hybrid is supposed to be in between an iron and a wood I would expect to see more iron/steel shafts in the hybrids treating them more like irons and saving the graphite shafts for the woods.
I have Axiom 125 in my ZX5s. This video made me want to put axiom in my 4 hybrid. Do you recommend I follow the axiom LP tipping for 4iron then butt trim to length?
Where do you get tip trimming instructions based off weight? I have the 105S in 5 iron, and want to put Axiom in my 5 hybrid (TSR 3). Also wondering how much to tip the LP blank.
Hi! I have exact same thought of putting Axiom Long iron 75 S flex into my Sim 2 Rescue 3 hybrid, and I did put it the Axiom into it. I also cut it into the exact same length 40.25 (shaft length without grip) as per TaylorMade website of the sim 2 rescue 3hy, but now I have a problem that the swing weight jumped into D5 which kinda too heavy for me. any helpful advices to solved this issue?
I would recommend playing it a little shorter. Try choking down 1/2 inch and see how it feels / performs. I am willing to bet you won't lose any distance from this, and should pick up consistency. That will bring the effective SW down to around D2. If you like it, you can cut it down permanently.
@@EFGMC Yes ofc, my fault. I ment if i can put...for example...a driver shaft in a hybrid. Or use a hybrid shaft and put it in a ironhead. If there are any rules about a specific length of shaft in the heads of driver, hybrid or iron.
@@pontuskohler3551 Driver limit is 46 inches, no other club has any specific length restrictions I believe. I guess it would be the same 46 limit for all clubs.
You would think, given that its 2024. That the brilliant minds that make golf equipment would stop fucking with everyone making 20 different shaft lengths requiring a different swing for every single club in the bag. its such a stupid mentality
