My first year was a FLOP because I've always loathed social media. I have to remember to be grateful for that medium. I mean in the old days, telling customers who you are and what you have, when, was much harder! Sowing our 10 x 40 metre plot with hardy annual seeds now (Autumn), for Spring sales. In too deep to give up!!!
The quote "if you are the smartest person in the room, you are in the wrong room" is so true. I have belonged to groups - that after I realized I could answer everyone's questions but no-one could answer mine - I found the time spent in their meetings of no value to me what so ever. It might be an ego boost, but that accomplishes nothing. I prefer to spend my time learning and growing, and if someone is genuinely interested in what I have to say - teaching. What did I learn from this video? I did the quick math to figure out what the size of my micro urban flower farm should be able to produce monetarily and realized I might just be doing better than the book suggested. I learned and got an ego boost - can't beat that!
YES! I think you're so right about it being an ego boost and not actually helpful :) And that's awesome news with the success of your urban flower farm!!! Way to go! I do think the book's estimates are on the low side- only because the author uses less intensive plant spacing than other, but I appreciate that it's a figure to shoot for!
@@twosistersflowerfarm It is a teeny tiny farm so even surpassing the estimate is not a goal I will settle for. This year I am hiring a friend to make value added products such as soaps and resin soap dishes using flowers from my garden. She does this for a living anyway (sans my flowers. We shall see if this works - hope so.
@@EvelynM-vlogs I love that you're going to try using your flowers to make soaps/soap dishes. That is such a unique idea! If it works, I'm sure it will be a big hit :) Best of luck!!
It takes money to make money! This year has been horrible for poor weather! My first year will be a busy but, it takes time, money, space, type of flowers! And so much more!
What a great informative video.. You get straight to the point with zero fluff! Thank you! You have a new subscriber from the 🇬🇧 😊 I'm an aspiring flower farmer... Considering beginning next spring!!
Awe thank you for the kind words! I’m glad that you enjoy zero fluff bc I’m the same way! Wishing you the best of luck next season as you follow your dreams! I’m sure you’ll knock it out of the park 💛💛
Thank you for some great advice. I'm growing dahlias at the moment as I really love the variety, but this year I have thought about making an income too. As I have to be at home, it seems a good idea to at least try
Thank you SO much for giving this advice! We'd like to look at a plastic mulch layer for next season. Which one do you use and where did you get it? Thanks again!
Glad it's helpful! As for the mulch layer, I unfortunately don't know specifically which model it is. Our mulch layer came from my grandparent's farm. They were produce farmers who used it for many years before gifting it to me :)
