I remember being able to tell but it wasn’t a big difference. Doesn’t matter much. Have you looked into the Resolve superscale feature?

If it's side by side then yes. If not - hardly, barely or even not at all. Great info for me owning an A7 IV. Thanks! 😁 Bigger difference for me is 33 MPx vs 12 Mpx when we shot photos and that's where A7 IV wins.

The model dial is more convenient in a7IV and can have own setting for photo and video is so convenient as well for a7IV. Truly the best hybrid camera. If one doing video most of time then it make sense to go to a7sIII.

@@nightdonutstudio I LOOVEEE the switch on the a7iv and how much you can customize it. Wish the a7siii had that honestly. Cause sometimes it’s hard to change to your other customized video settings since the little top round thing has to be pushed in to switch around.

I guessed each one correctly, so I guess that means I can see a difference. That said, having less resolution definitely seemed more noticeable in wider shots with a lot going on rather than close ups, where 1080 was already superfluous for what is being captured.

That’s awesome! And totally agree! I noticed it most when the frame was a wider focal length compared to when up close.

This was so helpful. I decided to get the Sony A7 iv after watching. Both cameras have a slight compromise. The Sony A7S iii has a 12mp sensor which is fine and you can get away with it. There is even software from adobe that can scale up the resolution if you really need to print large format. As for the sony A7 iv, you just proved that you can get around not having the 4k120fps by upscaling 1080p 120fps. Both cameras have work arounds to their weaknesses, but the Sony A7 iv is $1000 USD cheaper. Thanks man.

@@mattjohnsons5825 I personally haven’t had it happen when recording. Only when I used my a7iv as a webcam but then turned the sensitivity to not make it come on. Need to test out long form video recording to see

Both camera have great 1080p footage. I think as a videographer the 4K 120p helps when cropping in post or re framing a shoot. It’s like a back up. But if you don’t plan on cropping I would 100% use 1080p

I could see it in skin tones drastically, but I've got a trained eye. The depth of field also covers it good as we don't know what part was in supposed to be in focus.

Yea I think that’s more the a7iv vs a7siii having weird differences in the white balance even though I set them the same haha no clue why!

Great video, mate. On the one hand the difference is obvious. On the other - if that kind of difference plays a drastic role, it's better to focus on the content, rather than pixels.

Totally agree! I luckily own both cameras but I know a lot of people were debating which they’d prefer. But if I could only pick one I’d go for the a7iv since it’s a perfect hybrid for my needs honestly! 4k 120 is so good but I could be ok with 1080p if needed.

@@EasyTigerCreative, actually, I reckon having two cameras the best scenario. “Hybrid shooter” sounds nice as long as you’re set for certain gigs. But when you’re hiking in the mountains and constantly switching between photo and video, especially using gimbal, it’s quite a hassle, so you just end up with less footage in different locations.

A 1080p screen can't tell the difference but a 4k screen can, just in case if you can't see a difference.

Thanks for the video! I'd be curious to see both of these cameras in a 1080 timeline vs the 1080 upscaled to 4k. Interesting and useful if you're using that workflow, but of course the 1080p footage at 150% (or whatever it is) will look worse.

If you wanna use 120 on the a7iv but worry about it not being 4k, just deliver it all in a 4k timeline, who will know 😎 The a7iv looked great in your comparisons, makes me excited to get out and use the 1080 120 10bit. This was all in the s and q mode right?

@@jd1017_ I did a 4k 24fps timeline and simply upscalled the 1080p to 4k! If that’s what you’re wondering.

Depends what Videocard you use on your PC as the NVIDIA RTX4000-Series got a new Video-AI called "Super Resolution". Even bad Twitch-Content with less then 1080p looks like 4K now. But yes - I can see the difference easily - same goes for aps-c vs full-frame. Colors, sharpness, contrasts. clarity, etc. are much better on the A7Siii.

I didn’t know about the new graphics card doing that! I have my 3090ti still and probably won’t upgrade for a while sadly haha but I know some of the editing softwares have some upscaling you can do that looks good too!

There's definitely a distinguishable softness to the A7IV footage due to the lower resolution. My hunch is that the difference would be more defined without RU-vid compression. Untrained eyes won't notice.

I totally agree 100% on that! I know compression on RU-vid doesn’t help haha but even on my computer screen it wasn’t too noticeable unless you really looked at it very long and overanalyzed it haha

Hey man. Thanks for going to the effort. It did seem clearer to me on the a7siii. If you want your mind blown. Do slow motion in APSC mode. You’ll freak out. It’s much better on the a7iv. No pixel binning. It does a 1 to 1 readout so it’s clearer. Jason Morris ( another you tuber) did a review on this. I did a comparison myself using my own a7iv. It’s truly impressive. For all you 1080p filming use Crop mode. It’s amazing. I previously owned the FX3. The a7iv is just amazing… overall much more versatile. I totally agree with you. Wishing you all the success in your channel.

@@EasyTigerCreative like the new 15mm F1.4 or the 10-20mm F4. On super 35, they're beasts! I'm guessing there's no cheaper and better alternative for native full frame lenses. Also, enables 4k 60 to make up for the lack of 120fps.

The A7IV footage, while less sharp just looks better to me. Also, it would be cool to see the A7IV in 1080 120 in super 35 mode using the sharpest part of the lens to resolve the sensor.

Yes we can use 1080 @ 120 fps if needed but 4k 60 fps 1.5x cropped is a deal breaker for me … 💔 4k 60 full frame is needed for me So i go for a7s3 but as a content creator i noticed that fx3 is much capable for 120fps in 4k on the basis of stability & heat management & more advanced cine line camera . End of the day comparing other cine camera like pocket 6 pro , canon … there is no nd filters that’s too disappointing because fx3 cost around 4000 $ or above 🥶🥶 Each and every sony camera is not only expensive , but also missing some major things….

I totally understand that! I went with the a7siii as well for the 4k 120 and no crop on the 4k 60! I would’ve gone with the fx3 but it was sold out sadly. And I wish it would’ve had nd filters within the camera but sadly they don’t.

Would you use the 10-20mm f4 in super 35? That's the equivalent of around 15-30mm on full frame. I think you can get away with it.

This becomes even more urgent with the a7RV pre-order now. a7RV or FX30? I can easily tell the difference even on a 27" iMac when streamed in 4K. But Topaz is getting so good enhancing the resolution in eyes and faces these days, it's not terrible by any means. Not sure if you used any AI enhancer or just plain upscaling. As a pure hobbyist who only shoots 120fps sometimes, it's probably acceptable to have 1080p, but 4K is definitely very easy to spot when viewed side-by-side. But when 120fps is only a small portion of the overall video, probably no one will notice it, especially on anything smaller than a large desktop setup.

I upscalled it in premiere pro without any enhancement. But very true. I mean if you’re shooting a lot of slow mo probably people will notice it slightly but if you can use the softwares to enhance it then that’s an option too. Despite of how long they can take haha

They both really good they really tricky and like you said you can be wrong sometimes knowing Wich is Wich but If you see the minor details you can tell the $1000 more expensive one has bit more sharpness and smoothness.

The skin tones are warmer on the 7SIII which looks better to me. Everything else looks better on the A7IV, very suprising. Though i may be a bit biased since I own the A7IV!

Isn’t crop mode video better than full frame in the A7IV as far as rolling shutter goes? Is the 1080 120 full frame or crop? I don’t mind crop since I have the lenses to deal with it.

It made a video comparing the full frame vs crop mode rolling shutter too. You would tell only if you really go super extreme panning side to side honestly. And the 120fps is full frame but you can do crop too!

hey...does the FX3/a7III have the best 1080p of all the Sony cameras? I sometimes need to shoot on HD only for clients who will edit the footage and can only edit HD...what happened to good HD footage from a few years back? I was looking at the FX30 but the HD is just so so...argh...thanks

I do t have the fx3 but i do have the a7siii and a7iv! And I haven’t fully shot too much in 1080p, but I know with the a7iv the 1080p has been pretty solid. I know some RU-vidrs even shoot in 1080p with their Sony but export in 4k and the quality is still great!

1080P 120fps looks great unless you put your face closer to the screen and pixel peep. Most people are going to be viewing the video on their phones so one can get away with using 1080p. Maybe add a bit of sharpness to it. The 10bit helps quite a bit.

I only know that people say that it takes a while to process footage so if you’re wanting to wait too long then probably ok then haha

Could be cause of the sensor from the a7iv oversampling maybe. I know it oversamples the 4k 24 but not sure if it does the 1080p but would be cool!

That means that you’re using PAL vs NTSC for your camera which you can change in your settings! Then it’ll allow you to use it. It’s just for different regions. In the US we use NTSC so that’s why!

I think so! I actually used my a7siii in a bit of photos while in Europe recently and they worked well! Specially since some days I only wanted to film videos but then I’d want a quick photo and it worked smoothly!

But it is though? Haha I can watch it in 4k so maybe your screen doesn’t have a 4k resolution but you can still test it to see how it’ll look on your phone, computer screen and even TV.

The a7iv doesn’t shoot 4k 120 sadly! And I don’t own that lens either or else I’d try it with my a7siii!

Yea the a7siii has been a great investment to have! I do love that a7iv for s hybrid camera though but for video only, definitely the a7siii comes in on top!

Yes it will! I would hope haha but yea 4k will look nicer but then again cost like $1k more than the a7iv sadly.

There are so many improvements to the A7 IV that it's not even funny. Yes, you give up 4k 120, which is amazing, but you do get super 35, 33mpx, faster connections, similar ISO performance up to a point, etc. The only bad thing about the A7 IV is that the A7 V is coming later this year. So imagine getting an A7s iii and A7 V comes out. Instant devaluation, you're 2 generations behind, a lot of nice features missing, etc. Wait a few months, get the A7 V or an A7 IV at a discount. It's the most logical thing to do.

I haven’t heard anything about the a7v coming out later this year honestly. Most of the time they give a couple years for the next one. But who knows haha

@@EasyTigerCreative usually there are 2 years between generations. This year it would mark the 3rd year if bot mistaken. All rumours say the same too. It's just a guess, Sony has not confirmed yet. Hopefully new aps-c too.

@@mihaiserbanescu8676 I think the a7RV will probably have the same specs as the a7siii but just have a bigger megapixel count. Can’t beat the a1 in specs so that’s my guess!
