i want to shoot 120FPS without S and Q Mode! having to come home then to speed up all the footage because not everything requires S and Q is just a pain! i cant believe it records normal 120FPS in 8 bit and only S and Q slow Mo in 10 bit.
Yeah I know, definitely annoying. I still love the camera, but it’s definitely not perfect. I plan on trying to get the FX3 to remedy this. But it’d be nice if the a7IV did everything 🤷🏻♂️
@@cloudyrain0064 hello it's mainly for speed ramping I would like to have my footage at normal speed, but if I need to slow down then can do manually. I have a very niche case scenario, but I have figured out on davinci resolve it let's me slow down footage even if shot at 50fps to 120fps so I have found a work around
Great video. Thanks for the efforts. I like the color grading in your videos. Please do make a video, if possible, and share your color grading "secrets!" Cheers👍🏻
It’s definitely a helpful feature to have. Someone else pointed out that with a v90 card you can also set uncropped 10 bit 4:2:2 60fps 1080p on your video mode as well. Which honestly makes way more sense since I never slow things down to 20% speed
@@calincharles WOW that is awesome! I primarily shoot 60FPS when out filming snowmobiling content 120 is cool sometimes but most of the time it’s too slow. 😂
Hey thanks for the video. But my A7IV told me to use a V90 or higher or a Typ A CFEcard. I got a SANDISK EXTREME PRO SD CARD 128GB 300MB/S CLASS 10, U3, V90, UHS-II in my cam rn, should this card not handle the 120fps footage? I am confused haha
Thanks for the tip mate I'll try it today! And about the person who said that got annoyed for your "acting" dont even bother, some people get irritated for nothing, poor guys...
Do you mean when you import it to your video editor it’s really slow? Or do you mean you’re trying to open up the video on your desktop and it’s not playing?
That was a Game Changer to say at least. Thanks for this tip and i´m a bit angry at my self that i never thought of this. I have used S&Q before but to speed up things instead.
So glad to hear it! It’s funny, I actually never really use it. The crop on 4K60 can be slightly annoying, but I never really have any issues with it. And I NEVER slow anything down past 120 fps. I think I’d do 1080p 60fps 10-bit 4:2:2 on regular video mode instead if I’m being honest. It’s full frame, and I never need 20% speed that 120fps brings.
I definitely understand that struggle. V90 or better memory cards are expensive. I really suggest waiting for Black Friday, Boxing Day, summer sales, etc… and you’ll often find really good sales on higher rate memory cards. Will save you quite a bit. That’s what I did
But watching this video its playing back at 4k. Is watching your sample videos at 6:46 a correct translation on my screen of the original video you shot at 1080p?
Thanks for breaking this down into relevant chapters. Watched a few others of people stammering and trying to be funny while talking about the settings, putting a camera right in back of the menu screen is clutch. I'm just trying to shoot rad stuff !
Does S&Q mode work with an external recorder like a Ninja V? I am not having success making this work. Seems like with external recorder we're stuck with 120 8-bit. Anybody know a workaround?
If you shoot slog3 below 800 (the recommended native iso on this camera for this profile) your camera will digitally clip highlights for you earlier (losing you a lot of dynamic range), also your camera won’t register zebras to tell you where highlights are being lost.
This is going to sound really dumb. But for some reason this literally never occurred to me 😂 which is so funny, because it seems like the obvious option that was right in front of my face. I mean regardless, it’s nice to be able to hack 120fps 10 bit and have it as an option, so I’m still glad I made this video, but honestly, this comment you just made is going to make me change my workflow. So thank you 🙏🏻
I'm not sure if I remember right, but I think Gerald Undone mentioned in a video that when you shoot in 4K 60fps with the 1.5x crop, you still get more resolution instead of shooting in 1080p 60fps uncropped, partly because of the downsampled 4K from 7K
If it’s connected to the camera no. If you were you use a fully external source or a item like the rode go ii with internal recording turned on, then you’re good
If I'm being totally honest, not having 4K slow motion can be a bummer with the A7IV. Specifically, when trying to crop to vertical formats after the fact. You are forced to SHOOT vertically in the first place. 1080p cropped to a vertical phone format looks like s***, even on a phone screen. That's the #1 situation I have that really is an issue with it.
I feel that. Whenever I shoot vertical I never crop as I feel like you never get as intentionally of shot content unless you do. It feels like an afterthought to me when people crop in. But I get that some projects you need to do that
@@calincharles It's been a struggle with business wanting website content as well as social media content. And exactly, you either have to 1. shoot twice and turn the camera or 2. sacrifice some aspect of composition, either you're shooting wide always with anticipation of cropping later, or you shoot "normally" and pray that you have enough room to show everything you need to without it looking janky. Most businesses and clients don't really understand why it's big decision to make before shooting.
@@calincharles Nevermind I did a test with these settings and I didn’t have to do anything in Final Cut Pro. I set my A7IV to the settings in the video and enjoy this feature. Thank you for the response!
@@calincharles I am very confused about my next upgrade. I have an A7III right now, but my current 'Indian Wedding' and commercial Video workflow is kinda looking outdated using that. I wanted to know if there is this same 10 bit SNQ setting for the A7SIII in FHD? If yes, then I will really consider either A7SIII or the FX3. If not, then I have to go ahead with the A7IV or wait for A7SIV (which will be very silly)
I mean to be fair, all the full-frame cameras that shoot 120 fps 4K are like $5000.00. The R5 is like $4700, the FX3 is like $4999, the Nikon Z9 is like $7000. The cheapest fullframe option is the A7SIII, but even that is like $4300. This is a $3100.00 camera. can't expect a $3000 to compete with a $5000 camera. (All prices are in Canadian dollars)
Haha we work with what we’ve got 🤷🏻♂️ And for any video for social (which seems most client or personal work is shared on these days) 1080p is what is best otherwise you get the app adjusting your 4k footage to make it work on the app which makes it look awful.
98% of the total video consumed in the internet are for smartphones with 6” screen’s 🤣 1080P for some shots for social media clients it’s superb, nobody tell the difference 👌😊
