28:25 Wow, had no idea that StarSpikes plug-in could do that 'soft flare intensity' - really cool tip. Now I'm even more motivated to finally build a nice Windows PC for astrophotography processing. Up till now I've been using mostly Macs for processing, but the ProDigital stuff is Win only.

Wow! Seriously impressed with your capture and then the processing! ! If there is an oscar (not kidding) that can be given, what you were showing here, you deserve it, Bray! Now you got a fan here!

Hey Bryan! Thank you for this video, this actually helped me to get a better understanding of calibration frames...I've seen thousands of videos but the way you compared images with and without bias and flats seriously helped and pointed out things like vignetting, noise and dust...I've done calibration frames but normally skip flats and bias but then also struggle with things like vignetting...buuuhhhh, thanks for putting it the way you did.

Also your editing workflow is crazy and maybe chaotic but wow amazing results, will binge your videos. Star spikes pro...🤣🤣🤣 I laughed there but hey it's an awesome plugin and shouldn't be overused I guess.

I'm so new to the hobby and the software it was to far over my budget, I don't want the headache of tracking problems so I have to buy a star tracker. Thanks for the videos, keep them coming please!

Bray, I live in YV and have done photography for about forty years. Have some very nice equipment (Leica SL/SL2 with multiple lenses, Canon-not mirrorless-but 1dx's with multiple lenses, , Hasselblad - this is 503CW stuff with lenses) and am looking for someone to kind of team up with to share knowledge and ideas. Just went out to JT the other night with my girlfriend. We spent all night out there and we had a blast. That is definitely the place to go! If you want to get in touch with me I will em or text you and you can even stop by the house. All you have to do is let me know. Nice to see that someone in the area is as interested in photography as I am.

@astrofalls

I think just googling what it is for your particular camera model should work. Your camera could even be ISO invariant so it wouldn’t matter

@astrofalls

Yeah the same principle will still hold. Try to find what the best ISO is for your camera, and then take a ton of images.

Hello! I’ve got a Nikon D3500! Does this lenses (rokinon 135mm f/2) work for my camera? Please answer asap! :)
@ridleyroid9060
@ridleyroid9060 Год назад
Could you perhaps go over the lens youre using and any similar recommendations? I see a lot of untracked videos that show what you can do without a tracker and while that is appreciated, some videos Ive watched feature lenses that are more expensive than a tracker, so at the end of the day is a bit of a mixed message! I myself only have a kit lens I got with my camera, at 18-55mm f/3.5 > 5.6 and would like to make the most of it while saving for a star tracker, but at the same time I may also want to get a better lens with a higher focal length first so I can diversify my target options even untracked while getting the cash together for a tracker. Tl;dr, would you recommend getting lens first before a tracker and if yes which ones do you think would be decent to do so?
@astrofalls
@astrofalls Год назад
I use a rokinon 135mm f/2 which is about $500. You should get the tracker first, it is the most necessary part of the whole system, and will allow you to do so much more with your kit lens.

Quote of the day: " this is art not science"
@astrofalls
@astrofalls 3 года назад
Too many people get their panties in a twist over editing hahaha. The second the data is nonlinearized it becomes subjective
@HydraLunatic
@HydraLunatic 3 года назад
@@astrofalls I honestly love it, it makes it more interesting to look at and pulls your eye to the main object which is exactly what art does.
@Butzemann123
@Butzemann123 Год назад
@@astrofalls Just because its nonlinearized, it doesnt automatically turn into some form of art (what does that even mean) and all scientific value is gone. Of course each for themselve should decide how much they want to mess with the image. And there is no hard line, it goes smoothly from "i only apply a first stretch" to "i paint brush my data into abstract art" 😂

DSS saves so much time and space vs PI when you have so many subs. I'd be willing to bet you wouldn't be able to tell the difference is you compare the same stack from both DSS and PI. Rather strange that you send essentially newbies (who just want to image without all the gear) to process with three of the most expensive programs at the same time. There really is no reason to use APP for background extraction. DBE or ABE would work just as well in PI. Since we're on a roll... 2s exposures probably would've been better. At 3s your trails seem quite significant. Edit: got to the end results... wow, that's WAY too much makeup you have on there but if that's what you go for, it's fine.

How did you copy and paste the luminance of the image into the mask at the end?
@astrofalls
@astrofalls 3 года назад
Command+a, command+c, command+v. Or ctrl if on PC
@WhiteCrowFarm
@WhiteCrowFarm 3 года назад
@@astrofalls when I do that on the layer I want to use the luminance from and go to paste it into new mask, it doesn't copy the luminance to the mask, it creates a new layer with the copy of the selected layer. is there something i'm missing? most things i've seen, and used, specify to go into the channel panel and make the copy from there. I was surprised when you did it so quickly. I just can't seem to make that happen. is there a setting that i've missed somewhere? thanks for you help, I use luminance masks all the time, and if I can make them quickly, that'll be great. anyway, really enjoy your videos, I always learn a lot!

You changed the aperture when taking flats... -.- Literally one of two settings you can't change when taking flats; focus and aperture. Nevermind, cool project nonetheless ;-) Also - a TERAbyte for 1200ish frames? That's around 800 MB per RAW. What?...
