Dirk, KM6UXE, plans to install a 4010 EFHW, but due to the shape of his surroundings he will essentially be be connecting the end to a hill that is created by the ground sloping upward. Are there any problems with this set up?

As i understand it, in this scenario, level wire, slooping ground, the radiation pattern will be opposite of what you illustrated in your diagram. The ground (earth) acts as a reflector, the larger lobe will be in the down hill direction. Think of the ground as a mirror. The signal being radiated is perpendicular to the wire, striking the mirror and is reflected away at and angle. I think there will be a NVIS component to the pattern. How that will affect the down hill lobe is a good question. 🤔

If there was no slope, wouldn't the major lobes be at right angles to the wire, with much less off the ends? With the slope, you show the smallest lobes at right angles. What am I missing here?

I'm glad someone else typed this, I was questioning if I knew anything at all lol.

I'll have to model this.

Dave, I am Walt (AI7MY). I live in a similar situation up in Red Canyon, South of Lander, Wyoming. I have set my 140 foot random wire in the opposite situation than you have shown. It slopes off my house down the hill from roof level (maybe 12 feet high,) to about 4 feet above the ground. And it radiates best down hill. The ground being a reflector radiates towards the low end. I get very good reception and transmission generally in the down hill direction. I enjoy your videos very much and have learned a lot from them. 73!

The wire looks horizontal, would this antenna act as a NVIS antenna?

potentially

Of course each band would act differently with the multi lobes on higher frequencies on an EFHW being worse than the slope. Also, optimum height changes with band. Most get good performance even bent or loaded if they can't have their antenna farm
