I love swimming in the ocean with mine 💕 I would have added onto the end maybe a link to your dreadrot video. I always knew you could swim with locs, I actually did on a daily basis at a festival this summer because that was the only way to cool down there, but I always made sure my dreads were completely dry before swimming again the next day. The climate was hot and humid, but I have about 90 smaller dreads and they dry relatively quickly anyways. I may just be being overly paranoid but I try to avoid them being damp and then getting them soaked again over and over.
This summer I was at a lake, going off a rope swing and this drunk hillbilly told me I couldn't get my hair wet... It's like really man? How can you assume to know so much more about my own hair than I do? Thank you for that earth shattering revelation, my drunk sir. You've probably done much more research than myself -.- The assumptions people come up with are hilarious and slightly concerning...
I've been surfing my whole life. Saltwater is great for the whole body. My dreads love it. Pool water does suck, but I will go in it sometime just make sure I rinse it out as soon as possible.
Love the info but one statement was incorrect. You can use a commercial dive helmet with dreads. Kirby Morgan, Divex etc are surprisingly roomy compared to the really old style mark V helmets which is likely what you are thinking of. But either way you just have to wrap your dreads tightly to your head. And if you have too much hair still then you just get a bigger size helmet. But these helmets are mostly used for deep diving (below 350ft) so the average or tech diver is never going to really have a use for that and there is a ton of different options in mask for recreational and tech diving to help not tangle your hair. (Scuba Instructor here. Hope that helps)
Mine are so long, they would most def strangle me and make me drown.😂 there's a very mixed personality in them.. Some love me, others... Well, lets just say we dont always get along. Lol.
Hey lazy dreads big fan ! Love all your videos and it encouraged me to get locks , only thing is that I have super curly hair but it’s also slightly wavy and my roots - 1-1/2 is starting to bud and was wondering if twisting my hair with gel would work to keep them neat and clean or if they would help them lock as well ? I tried the crochet hook method but I don’t have patience for it since I suck at using the needle .
Horrent Gamer try putting a dread between two fingers and press down against your head and rotate your hand in a circle against the root of the dread. Its called root rubbing and it actually brings in loose hairs and tangles it into the corresponding dread. It is temporary though but if you are trying to look a little more put together this is an instant, quick fix without having to use product (i would avoid gels or wax at all costs!). If you root rub with sea salt spay it helps the hairs stay in the dread. Good luck :)
question?: I know wax is a bad idea but my two week old dreads are really loose and have a lot of loose long hairs I really don't want to use a crochet hook what do you think about locking gels?
Michael Rodriguez he has a video in his channel about the method used for his dreads, and he honestly doesn't do much for maintenance other than washing, occasional deep cleanings, and trimmings.
thank your for being one of the main reasons to get dreadlocks...im getting to a month age in a week and i like it...i like the way i look...i like the way the small children look at me when i pass through the hallway...but i have another question.... hair in front of my face is not really the same like the hair in the back...i sometimes have to re twist and rip the hair around my face and on top of my head ...why is that?...and also some of the hair sections look like twisted hair?will that fix itself or should i redo them... although i read that i should redo hair when having dreads as that resets the procces...help!
Luka Sušić I had this same issue with the thinner fringe dreads I made. Don't worry, after a couple times fixing them up, they will start to hold and dread up within the next month or so. I have super curly hair naturally so my hair dreads faster than straight, so ultimately it's up to your hair how long the process takes. Use sea salt sprays and palm roll the aid them. The twisted look you talk about will just be locked hair in time. Be patient my friend :)
Weird question: can you be too sweaty for dreadlocks? My job is pretty active and my scalp sweats quite a bit, which has me concerned because of dread rot or over washing them.
TheCoal do you have dreads yet or thinking about it? I feel like dread rot wouldn't happen simply from having constant sweat on your head. It happens when their is moisture and warmth promoting growth of fungi (like if you wrapped them in a towel wet and didn't let them breath for hours). Open air is good to naturally dry them out. As for washing them too much, in the beginning this would be an issue. You want to go as long as possible without washing them initially, and with a sweaty scalp, that might not be as long as you would hope. Not saying you can't, you should try it you want them, it might just take extra maintenance to keep them together initially. After they start maturing, the additional washes are ok for them. Good luck :)
Dreaded Scorpio thanks for the info! I’m seriously considering them but wanted these answers first. I already started prepping my hair and I’ve noticed since I stopped conditioning I haven’t been sweating as much. I used to get greasy hair if I didn’t wash my hair every day or two now without conditioner it’s closer to 4 days. :)
Question: hey Christian, my dreads are almost a yr old and not doing what I want them to do, so I'm considering taking them out and doing them over using a different method. They aren't quite a yr old and barely past my shoulders, with ling loose tips. What would be the easiet and best way to take them out with out too much damage?
Lesley Betz well if you do, I'd say using a metal flea comb and a pick would be your best bet to take them out with minimal damage. I've done it before. Try washing them really good and saturate them in conditioner but wash them after saturating and let them dry before you start taking them out! Wet hair breaks easier, but the conditioning before hand gets the hairs ready to be detangled. Its a shame they didn't workout for you... Good luck.
I actually want to ask you something.. *please dont laugh and sorry for my (maybe) incorect english* So I had dreads two times in two years (first time i brushed them out because of my mum and second because they weren't done corectly) and I cut my hair, what would happen if I would make them again (but for good this time) and wear extensions to them so they don't look awkardly? Do you think they would resist?
Respectfully, patience is the answer!!! And about the weirdness... well they are called "dreads"... soooo the gonna be somekind of weird at first. I would say it take about a year (6 to 18 moyhs depending on hair and technique used) before you realy know what your dreads will look like in long term ; ) Peace
I have dreadlocks for 1 year and 4 months right now. My roots are dreading by themselves, but I have a lot of loose hairs between my sections. I kinda like this look, but I am worried about root thinning. Do I have to put the loose hairs in my dreads in order to prevent root thinning? Because some people say that healthy dreads keep the same 'root size'.
Do you slightly trim fly aways on your Dreads? Take a look at my bro in Dubai and he's amazing at DREAD and not rubbish work! Check him out,you might already know him,# krismcdred on RU-vid! Always Fancy your videos your truthfull about everything! Im addicted to LAZY DREADS!
the hate and racism towards people with dreads amazes me, but the ignorance of dreads makes me humble. i have had dreads since i was 14yrs old. i am a white orthodox rastafarian . at length me dreads measure just over 3 meters or 9 feet long. born on a island i competed in swimming and cross harbor races. i now am known as a freediver, and scuba instructor.. AT NO TIME HAVE I EVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH DREADS. thanks to SOGORBY I HAVE custom made diving and swimming caps.
