I love the Watt for throws like that. It’s basically the glitch with a touch of stability

That hula hoop is quite the training tool. What is interesting is that shots that were close to it are parked. The still shots with the graphics were helpful. Nice Canada hat!!

I thought you might like that... picked it up on my layover coming back from Moldova. Does 4 hours in the Toronto airport count as visiting? :D

I sort of have a different line of thought to the shape charge (sounds explosive)... Theres a HUGE reason... and if you make it through my following waffle... it may explain WHY YOU HIT '1st Available' trying to hit that gap! Pete is talking of hitting the waypoint... but for me... knowing the whole shot... getting the feel for that shape.... allows you to remove the trees from the forest. I have a Hyzer shot... It's burnt into my lizard brain... from casually throwing frisbees... I FIXATE ONT THE TARGET... I stand facing the target.. I fixate on it.. and I yeet my scorch out on a Hyzer somewhere off to the right... somewhere I have no clue... because Lizard brain is taking care of that... and the result is a pure arc, landing in line with my fixation... and if i get the power right.. on range... I find it excellent for those 'through a bush' shots where you can see the basket, but need a Hyzer round the bush to it... Now I admit one slight flaw... I bullseye the target... but the Scorch skips.. and I forget to aim right to take in the skip (Unless using a 45+ deg tombstone Hyzer (Near pinned a basket in my 1st tourny from behind a tree with that one). So where are we with the shaped shot... Well I'm back to an open (well straight side on but some fixation going on) stance... and choose a disc that will fly a known path... and I know that path (ok I'm still learning my discs) but that means I don't fixate on a waypoint... so I know the path.. I know where it's going to land.. I chose a path that is outside/inside that tree/gap etc... Now all I have to concentrate on is the target, and throwing the angle/power to hit that shape. So here's the thing about targeting a waypoint... Well my opinion on it... We all have a lizard brain.. People like to call it 'Muscle Memory'... but that's wrong... We know Muscle is just muscle... Ever driven to work... got there and realised you can't remember any of the drive... THATS Lizard brain... Your unconscious brain doing what it does why your conscious brain thinks about how your going to say hi to that cute girl in accounting but know your going to choke.. and all of a sudden your pulling into the car park... THAT unconscious brain is the one your training your shot shapes for... THAT'S the one that calculates the weight of that disc THAT'S the one hitting the angle it needs to hit to get the disc to the target.... THAT'S the one that knows the shape to get it there... and here's the rub... Go pick a waypoint and use your conscious brain to "pass through" that point to the target... And good ol Lizard brain says OK,, New "TARGET" and recalculates for you... This is especially obvious when you pick a target in the background (like a tree) knowing the disc will turn begore reaching that tree.... Make the shot.. and guess what.. You hit the tree... WHY? Because good ol lizard brain recalculated for you.. because you wanted to target the tree, it made sure you did.... so I stopped using a waypoint... and started getting used to shapes... and hope I can train my lizard brain well enough to figure that that shape missing everything.. lets put the disc in the basket and the trees between no longer come into it.. ok so having said that... My lizard brain has the Frisbee straight arm hyzer down pat... but some of the shapes are .. well just outside the curve and I griplock it into the neighbors gutter... but hey... I'm 55 and not Simon.. Who needs to push my 330ft max when I'm getting really good at breaking out of Jail with scramble shots like 280ft rollers, cut rollers, Hyzer bombs, flex shots from beside my left shoulder... and I'm working on that skip sot to go 90deg round a tree (though the vertical overhead roller usually pulls that off.

I think I get what you are saying... and I totally agree about the lizard brain. That is what I really on for my game... I say I am a "natural" player. I see the target and immediately can visualize the line my disc should take... (now whether I pull it off is another issue), but when I am trying to help others figure out this game I understand that a lot of folks can't visualize. That is where the intermediate point or in this case the hoop can help them get an understanding of the flight of the disc. I am going to try to work out a video today to expound on that... if it will quit raining. But, this stuff is the fun/aggravating part of throwing a frisbee. Thanks

@@ogdiscgolfer I always remind my friends that we all have that "Return to bag" shot that just works because theres no thought, no pressure... I still think the BEST practice any new player can do.. is get a couple of same discs.. and a friend.. and throw to each other on a big field (Football/rugby/cricket etc.. something that is about 300ft so they can yeet that plastic in any direction without loosing it... but the major bonus.. you don't want your friend to walk too far so you do what you did last throw, but adjust... And you don't have to walk 200ft every time you throw a couple of discs.

I totally agree... I actually did a video about practicing with a partner in a field, but the video was corrupted and I haven't reshot it. I always try to grab new players and take them to an open area and just get them to play catch. :D

@@ogdiscgolfer I lucked out and somehow managed to pick an Opto Jade for one of my very 1st discs and it lust flies long and straight.. Perfect for learning to throw with a friend.. A sort of pick up, point and shoot disc... Unfortunately I threw it on a new local and left it on the field when it started to drizzle.. named/numbered, never returned... Luckily I had just started to outgrow it... I'm never going to be more than 'A good player' so I don't need to fill all the gaps. I just shape the ones I have.

Sorry, I don't know the reference... I know Juliana... managed to have dinner with her and Jim Oates one time... and she would probably think of me as "that weird guy" more than proud. :D (My attempt at a joke... I am assuming that she is an advocate of the touch shot?) Thanks

So how do you know where to put the target
@ogdiscgolfer
@ogdiscgolfer 3 месяца назад
Good Question... I don't have an exact science to it... I set it along the ideal flight path that I am trying to achieve... I usually try to put it at the apex point or where the window would be that I would need to hit if there were trees or bushes in the way. So the hoop represents the only place that the disc would not get smacked down. Hope that helps. Let me know if I need to explain more. (I just make stuff up anyway... :D) Thanks!
