When playing a friendly, I like most of us, like to throw another shot if I yeet something into the wild... but I always like to play my terrible shots because you NEED to play from horrible positions... I surprise people with some really great scramble recoveries... because honestly.. .I'm not the most fantastic Disc Golf god... and I really only throw backhand with one good forearm through the trees hole... so I only turn right with a Forearm Diamond. What prison escapes HAVE taught me... is how to throw some really weird shots... A Tesla roller (that disc is GOD of rollers).. A Scorch (eyes fixed on the basket) yeet out right 45deg Hyzer (frisbee throw) that I have been known to bullseye peoples bags at 50ft showing them it... a flex put with am RPM Tui that at 50 ft looks great... and dumps close if it misses (See Pete's Anhyzer upshots)... An SPZ3 that flies 300ft 3ft off the ground dead straight. and an RPM Kotare so broken I get smirks from people as I rock up to 45deg Anhyzer it into a blistering headwind only to have it snap up to flat and fade out... (oh and a StarLite Boss 156g that's more flippy than the Ringling Bros that flips up and goes miles on a local long uphill that often has a tail/cross wind. Anyone can throw an OK drive, OK upshot and if your lucky.. a good putt for par... but how many blow their PAR out of the water just because the drive went a little wayward. Here's what you do... next time your playing a friendly... Everyone has a free throw from a shot one of you put in Jail... (after the originator throws theirs out...) It gives you practice for scrambles.. It may show the originator a better line they could have taken... And often... it shows that the perpetrator pulled a rabbit out of a hat when no one else could do better.
@@ogdiscgolfer I feel a good part of the viewers may have to look that one up... Actually I have been trying to get a phrase going... since Over-stable discs are Beef... (And my RPM Kotare is the whole farm)... and I use a Diamond.. and a Star Lite Boss that's even MORE under-stable than the Diamonds... I've started calling the Boss "Vegan" as it's as far as you can get from Beef! q8)
yeah, I saw someone do a little review on it and it looks promising but a little less stable than the berg. I’m really liking the Berg/Warspear combination right now for my approach shots but I’m definitely going to try out MVP because I love almost all their products
Super point...... Golf..... same thing. We practice from the areas that we tend to miss, side hill lies, uphill and downhill. Bunkers, etc etc. Getting comfortablle in those situations can save a lot of strokes. Keep it going Pete. I still owe you another Firehouse Sub....😀
you are definitely entitled to your opinion, I hope you realize that was done a little bit in jest but if you’re playing in any snowy muddy areas it makes more sense.
No I bought it at the Northeast expo last year for full price. But I think it was only 145? And where I have really appreciated using it is when it gets rainy and able to use it as a good elevated base to keep my discs dry during a tournament and then also when I'm doing field work because I don't have to bend down as much. But I'm also 54 and any saving up my back is a bonus for me :-)
@@ogdiscgolfer We had a drop zone at 11 and if you missed the island, you played the drop again. Just got to backing cards up. Same with 12. A few would get half way down the hill and have to go back up and try again. Or you were short or long of the island for 2nd shot and had a rethrow would slow thing down too. The sign on hole one should have the layout the course is in that matches the Smart Layouts, but if its a tournament, they post the tournament in the smart layouts. You know how Udisc on distance, can't just type it in, you have to use the map and go pin to pin, so not so straightforward.
Thanks, This was Labor Day and UDisc only had two Layout options... A and B (and neither one had any hole info or lines, I think someone might have been working on it or something) so I just had to feel my way around, and by the time I made it to that side of the course I am sure my ADD caused me not to even pay attention to the signs. Reading is Fundamental and I put the fun in mental! :D Thanks again!
I love Ol' Colony!! It's what I wish more folks would do if they have an open field for their course. The man made changes actually bring so much character to the course and makes the shots unique! Hole 12 with the "water carry" over the OB is my favorite!!
I totally agree... but hey! I am also with Paul Ulibarri in the idea of having floating rings that we have to throw through like Drone racing does. Having clear lines that you have to hit. :D Thanks buddy!
Im convinced to get one. I play on a course where they have the sprinklers going off early in the morning. So it gets went and muddy and im always bringing my Trooper bag home and washing the mud off. Im definitely going to buy one of these. This will also be good for the rainy season! Thanks for the info!
Definitely worth checking out... just remember that you can set it to keep the legs open until you click the button by the handle... makes it less fiddly when grabbing discs (I never read the manual and it took a while to figure that one out!) good luck!
Of course, all I could focus on was the string sticking out from your hat…In terms of spending time talking with people on a course, I love playing solo rounds. However, wherever I play I will always take time to help others search for their discs or chat with people I don’t recognize on one of the local courses. One of the local courses is minutes away from Toronto’s International Airport so often people from out of town will stop by to get in a round. At the same time, I love traveling to new courses and when on new courses will ask to join cards to get the lay of the land from locals.
I really enjoy playing with new people with different play styles. I like to learn their thought processes and open my mind to the possibilities that the hole offers.
As we are entering spring been thinking about this too, how can I add a couple more birdies (especially playing with friends that absolutely bomb the drive every time)
Hey Pete, I always get something to take away from your videos. “The key to disc golf is to get it in the basket”. You won’t find this kind of insider information on Robbie’s channel. I always wondered what those metal things in the fairway were. Thank you for the video. Hope the comments help get more viewers for you.
A few things: 1. In my opinion, the pro tees at Bowers drastically change the strategy and visibility in this course. Instead of just extending the distance, they also add extra curves, angles, and lanes to an otherwise obvious shot. 2. I have frequently noticed baskets in Bowers being in different locations than what the course assignment is. Maybe it's due to damaged spots. 3. This is a great course for practicing your scramble shots after hitting trees. Ol' Colony has a couple brutal holes for learning to scramble, but I like Bowers better if I am only playing in Tuscaloosa. Nice video, thank you for uploading.
Thanks, I am literally editing my round at Ol Colony right now. I played Bowers, Ol Colony and Hangar on Labor day. I will keep you in mind next time I can make a trip down. Thanks!
I most often throw farther than what TechDisc says. I think it’s because I throw it into a net in my garage, which has a slick floor and I just throw harder when there’s an open field in front of me and a grippy surface under me. I think it’s an awesome tool that has for sure helped me train more effectively. I’m throwing harder and more consistently. At the end of the day you can only compare your tech disc numbers for nose angle speed and spin to previous tech disc sessions - you shouldn’t compare your real throws to the throw model. My biggest caution with tech disc is you can improve how you throw a lot in a short period which makes it hard to know your “standard throw”.
Love it... and hey, I lived in Thailand so I can do meters for the most part :D I just had a conversation with an old pro friend of mine today that just started throwing the Berg and he said "it is so controllable" why wouldn't you throw it. :D
@@ogdiscgolfer Well, many think them discs can be thrown like any hard disk but no no... I almost broke my arm trying to smash it before i figured out what they are made for 😎 Its beginning of autumn here in southern Sweden and i can already feel the difference in apperance of them both. They get much stiffer when it gets colder compared to what an already hard disc gets. Just this last week it was around +23°c and yesterday it was down to +14°c so gonna be interesting what happens to them ahead when it goes towards 0°c and beyond 🤔🤔😉
Yep, I have to worry more about them melting in the heat than freezing. We may get a week of snow here in Alabama. I was able to play a round in snow/mud at Maple Hill last year, but that is the only cold golf I have really played. I bet that first throw when the blood slams into your wrist feels great! Thanks so much for watching!
Your videos and tips are so excellent, but why do you put background music on them? Adds nothing substantive whatsoever, and is incredibly irritating for those of us with keen hearing. Wastes your time to do. Wastes my time to upload your video to an AI tool to strip out the noise. Please stop ruining your videos with background music! Thank you #accessibility
Thank you for that feedback... to be honest, I have added it because that is what other folks do, but I am not a music guy and it is a pain. I would prefer not adding it... so I will be happy to leave it off... one less chance for me to mess up the edit. thanks. :D Of course I sure someone will want me to put music back in, but I am going to tell them to talk to you. :D No seriously, you answered a nagging thought I had in my head. Thanks
Love the video. Little tip I use in my TechDisc Videos, Screen record the TechDisc numbers on your phone while you throw, then you can just put the screen recording in as Picture in Picture with your main video
You may have already tried it, but I would like you to try flick putting with Loft Discs and Elevation Disc putters. I heard that the Loft Discs Neon are especially wind resistant...
Frisbee is the patented name owned by Whamo, so yes it is in essence frisbee golf but the discs are now so much more high tech that they don’t look much like the old Frisbees we threw on the beach or playing Ultimate. :) thanks for the question.
it’s all about perspective, considering the people I used to try to throw as far… the likes of Ken Climo etc. :-) there’s always somebody who can throw farther… and mine is heading in the reverse direction as I get older :-)
Huh?! What are you talking about lolol. Tons of disc golfers can bomb who you playing with?! 😅😂 very hilarious. I can throw 370 with my eyes closed on roller blades 😂🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I started playing thirty years ago and the guys I was playing with were people like in Ken Climo, Brad Hammock, Stan McDaniels and Lavone Wolfe who crushed the disc way farther than I ever could, even though my nickname was the "big armed monkey." Which means there is always someone faster, stronger and better out there. Yes, we have to push ourselves but also be realistic... the 370ft with a Buzz was a joke... I can throw pretty far, but Tech Disc saying I can throw it that far isn't realistic :D
Once the disc has been connected to the app press the blue rectangle on the bottom portion of your screen to bring up an additional dialog box. On said dialog box press where it says "Flight Numbers" and you can edit them from this screen and save & name new presets.
