I went to MEPS on Wednesday, got the green light on everything except my education because I finished school in Europe and they won’t take my diploma and told me I need to get 15 college credits. I started yesterday and I’m already at 9 credits. Knocking them out until Saturday and enlisting next week. So excited.

Avoid going through a local recruiter or if you by chance can’t get in within 6mo from date of discharge, you’ll be subjected to go through MEPS. And if you have any pending VA Claims, may also hinder the Reenlistment process with that local recruiter. 🫡

@@TEAMSWARTZ Hi did you end up making a video discussing how to smoothly transition from active duty to NG? You touched on it in this video but still have so many questions. (Retention in AD will ignore you if you ask them about going Nation Guard in my experience)

@@zachgrimsdale6442 I hate that they are pressured to push everyone to the Reserve vs Guard. I believe there’s more friction points or steps to place you in the Guard or they’re blatantly told to push reserve over guard… I did a video sharing my thoughts on this… DONT LEAVE ACTIVE DUTY YET UNTIL YOU CONSIDER THIS FIRST ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vQQCj6ZaGZo.html DM on Instagram because you got lucky with me seeing this comment. So if you are expecting over 30% from the VA and you transfer through an RCCC when leaving active duty you can come over to the guard no issue? over 30% is only an issue if you leave active duty completely and then try to come over?

Correct… Good to go because you never had a break in service. Just make sure you adjust your pay accordingly to balance off your Disability Pay and your base pay. If not you’ll owe for over payment at the end of the year. Just clarify that through your finance office prior to leaving seeing how it’s easier to see them versus phone calls with DFAS/VA once out. I’m on terminal leave, cleared post and got my dd214. I still have a month left till my actual ETS. If I change my mind about going reserves. Can I go back to the RCCC and go reserves?

If you cannot go in person, I’d def call them and see if they can. If not, contact your local Guard/Reserve Recruiter to get the process started. I was curious about this, since my friends were talking about this. If you're on a 4 year contract and you served 2 years, but you wanted to switch from active duty to reserve is that possible? I heard those and can be difficult. Some people wanted to continue serving their country while working a civilian job

Unfortunately you can’t downgrade from active duty to Guard/Reserve. I’ve tried and learned it goes against regulation. At your 6 month till ETS window, you are required to go to an RCCC brief about joining the guard or reserve as part of your outprocessing. At this time, you can actually contract with the National Guard and lock in your job that you want to move into in your home state (or state you want to live in). Once you hit your ETS date, you are a member of the guard the next day with no break in service. This option is available for both Active duty Army and Marine Corps.

So if you’re currently Active duty, and in the middle of your contract. Can you switch to National, because of an Injury?

If you’re not retainable for active duty, they won’t transfer you because of your temporary profile. In general, you cannot be transferred from RA to NG based on regulation. Unless there’s an Exception to Policy I’m unaware of, you can’t buy def check with your RRRS on post.

My recommendation is to make sure youR PHA is valid for at least 6mo from date of Discharge. Because you’ll need to enlist into the Guard/Reserve before the 6mo anniversary of your ETS Date or be forced to go back to MEPS to complete a medical exam. Now, this is a pro tip… Go through your RRRC, the Retention team essentially to coordinate your direct transfer into the National Guard, rather than getting out and working with a Recruiter. More important to do it this way if you’re planning on making a VA Disability Claim. Or else you’ll get denied for enlistment if it’s above a 30% rating. That’s the best option, otherwise go through your recruiter. Now, if you go Reserve, you’ll be subjected to PCS’ing and all that jazz just like normal active duty. That may be a con depending on your goals and ideals. If you go Guard, you’re restricted to opportunities within your State, which provides stability for location and convenience of working closer to home with the same great benefits of normal active duty. I plan on doing a video on this in the future but hope that helps. Go to your installation's soldier support center or career center and talk with a Reserve Component Career Counselor (RCCC) they can go over the options in your state. Each state is different on what positions would be available. Most states have a recruiter need right now. Your home state has a Interservice Recruiter that works with the RCCC to walk you through these options. That is what I do for Illinois.

Unfortunately, you gotta finish out your AD Contract and switch to the guard from there. Try to go through your RCCC on post into an MOS of choice. If they can’t get you into an MOS of choice, you might be able to go through a recruiter instead because we have the ability to possibly get an authorization to place you into an excess position. I'm currently active duty army (Almost 10 years active). I get out in April 2024. The national guard recruiter sent me the 368 saying if my active duty chain of command signs it, I can get out of active duty 6 months early and start national guard. Is this true? If not, I don't understand what the national guard recruiter would gain from lying and wasting both of our times. My chain of command is okay with doing it but they/we can't find any regulation that backs up what the recruiter has said.

I was told by our guidance counselor at the time I had one active duty soldier fully supported and documented it’s not authorized to go from AD to ARNG but if there’s a loophole for the final 6mo, let me ask around and find out. No my CoC was asking for the regulation but he said its governed by local policies. I saw a DOD instruction saying its a valid request but I can't find anything regarding time frames or approval authority or anything like that. My G-shop has never heard of it either but this recruiter is insisting that he's done it dozens of times for Reserves to national guard and active duty to national guard. Also, the 368 doesnt really have a formal regulation on what it's supposed to do. It's just used for "inter-service" transfer@@TEAMSWARTZ

Hey, I’m a PFC and i got to my unit in Germany on January 5th. Is there anyway for me to switch from active to guard. I just want to me in the states and I’ll do anything for that to happen

Unfortunately, as described in this video, it’s not possible and goes against regulation. You made a mistake and you’ll have to finish out this contract. Good luck and best wishes. Make the best of this opportunity and enjoy the overseas experience. Don’t bury yourself in the barracks. Go explore and make memories. #TeamSwartz! Is it true that you can’t work as a civilian radiology tech with 68p AIT training? I heard there’s more schooling involved and the army training alone won’t qualify you. Thanks!

No clue but I do know theirs a degree required to be that on the civilian side. If you study that in college you get a ton of Army Credits converted to College Credit in that degree with your Joint Service Transcript. I got 54 credits converted for my degree plan and my experience in the Army. Thanks for asking!

Won’t be able to until you ETS. You’ll have to get into the Guard or Reserve as a part time Soldier and then apply for a full time position. Yes, that’s true but you’ll still be required to knockout your new 4-1 & 4-2 (contract) and additional documentation. You’ll need to be Conditionally Released from the IRR as well. Good luck and best wishes!

10yrs is the minimum contract for Aviation Warrant Enlistments and you cannot switch from active duty to National Guard but can switch from Guard to Active Duty (in general).
