Earlier this year I drove my 93LX 8 hours one way, then came back the next day. No issues, and got 24mpg average. It's also my daily.

@@wastedwagesmercuryman6018that’s from the old carb cars. The 60/70’s cars got like 13. My 71 Torino with a 351c 4v gets like 10-12. And my 83 GT with 34k miles gets 16-18 with a mix of town and highway. Pure highway gets about 21-24.

May of this year I flew over to Houston to buy a 94 5.0 5 speed. After closing the deal with the owner, the owner did not recommend me to do the 6 hr drive back home. I told him the reason I bought the car was because I wanted to do road trips with it. I went to the local O’reillys and bought a battery, radiator fluid and an extra tank of gas. I drove the 6 hrs trip home with no issues and now I drive it almost everyday.

I have a 1991 LX 5.0 convertible with almost 200,000 miles on it. Over the years it’s been upgraded with new suspension, subframe connectors, new rack and pinion, etc. Generally, I stay within 40 or 50 miles of my home. If I’m going further than that I make sure I have an extra TFI unit and the tools to install it!

I put 100k miles on my car and I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. These cars are deadly reliable as long as they aren't far from stock. In that 100k miles I replaced a starter and a clutch cable. I did start to lose 2nd gear near the end of that but those 100k miles were not easy miles either. Drive your shit!

I always say, "let me look in the trunk of your car, and i'll know every problem you've had with your cars--because now you carry the tool or part you wish you had on the side of the road so you'll never repeat that experience". Of course, it's a joke because some don't learn and no one does a T5 swap on the side of the road after they blow the 3rd gear synchro, but i get the fear of driving your Fox someplace. I daily drove my 1986 Gt into the ground, using it as a pickup truck and in snow storms as well. But as it got more and more unreliable, I was taking care of elderly parents and driving their newer cars to keep the gaskets lubed. those became the cars i drove long distance and my rustang became the weekend car i only drove to keep the rubber from drying out. blown header gaskets don't bother me since "backpressure" is just a myth and i can live with a dead AC if i have to...but it is the basic parts that need to be either replaced, upgraded, or just tested to make sure they'll work. It's a lot easier to use a Fox for a daily driver (even with missing ABS, airbags, and so on) than my 1968 Olds 442 with 243,000 miles--the more I use it, the sooner things break on it. all i can recommend is keep taking longer and longer trips on it. you'll learn what's going wrong and can feel better you're "only an hour away" rather than "5 hours and two state lines" away. or find a circular route so you can drive for hours, but you keep returning to your neighborhood to feel you're close enough. and of course, sign up for highway service with your classic insurance--AAA is truly starting to suck now.

I usually don't worry driving mine to much. It's been a pretty dependable ride for the most part. I drive it a hour and a half away to the track each way during the season. I don't start worrying til about 5 passes in beating on it lol.. then the worry starts to set in and I load up and baby it most the way home.. my biggest concern is the stock 28 spline axles.. I have a supercharger sitting in my garage waiting but between the axles and not having a cage in it, (convertible), I haven't put it on yet. Mostly axles tho.. that would be a expensive ride on a flat bed..

TFI module will leave you stranded if you still use the factory style distributor. That was the number one culprit for no spark and random no start issues after warmup. Not a bad idea to keep one in the glove box just incase.

You being a perfect person to ask because you're like most of us and want great street performance and a killer idle and good drivability and you have some type of experience with a bunch so If YOU had a bone stock 95 5.0HO 5 speed today 12/17/23 and was going to do HCI over time but wanted to start with the cam with a stock ECU what cam you would buy? Also do you or anyone you know had any experience with Howards offerings for HO engines? They have one listed that keeps coming up in searches kinda in the xe274 ballpark if I remember right, Howards "220255-10" .544"/.565" 231°/235°@.050 106°CL 110°LSA Description....63-95 Ford 5.0/302HO 2200/6000 "Rough idle, street&strip performance, great low to midrange TQ & power" It's sounds decent enough but does it clear stock piston valve reliefs?

The worst is when something happens and it's like it sticks in your head and makes the anxiety worse the next time you go to drive it even though you know you fixed the issue . Mine died on the side of the freeway, the wire that comes from the fuel pump relay over to the passenger side green connector was loose in the pin so it would intermittently die if you hit a bump or something. Luckily I was close to the house I was able to wiggle it and get home.
