It would make for interesting conversations with the licensing testers. It’d also be funny to put it in FSD while they’re riding along to see if they notice 😆
Great topic. My kids all got their driver's licenses a while ago, but this question has been in! my mind. So thanks for the answer. You were clearly stressed over all the unknown issues (electric car, cracked windshield, backup cameras, and whether your son will pass the test). Sometimes I think we stress out more than they do! Sweet seeing how much you care. And boy do you have a handsome son! I was going to say that I don't think we've seen anyone else from your family on camera except you, your husband, and now Brison. But then I remembered the pics of most of you out here on vacation in California. Anyway, you have a good looking son. Congratulations! Get ready for an ouch on the insurance bill!
Heard a story last year about someone failing the driver's test in a Tesla because the examiner said they improperly used the brakes and he had never seen regen braking before. I believe the student finally did pass after the parent made such a fuss about it.
Not as crazy as it sounds. A person that can drive a Tesla, does not mean they actually know how to drive ninety-nine percent of the vehicles in the world… 🤔
Hi Sara, tip on your broken windshield, I changed my comprehensive from $1000 ded. To $0 dollars and it only went up around $10 a month. I have a model y. And it doesn't matter how many times you file a claim, as long as it's not your fault.
Well, congratulations on your son being successful and taking his drivers test. It took me two times when I went to get my drivers license many years ago. However, I am surprised that they allowed your son to take the test with the crack in the windshield with the crack on the driver’s side and in the drivers line of sight, that’s was surprising, as for the situation with your car being a Tesla, it would not make sense if they wouldn’t allowed you to take the test, because you can’t drive the car using any of its driver assist features and they have to recognize that most cars have back up cameras, so that shouldn’t be an issue. So again congrats to your son on his successful drivers test. Cheers.
@@SaraJAwesome I have a solution for you PARENT 😊 Google "Bouncie" ... Plugs into the OBD, very small, and gives you EVERYTHING... Speed, times, location, did they get in an accident, etc... SERIOUSLY... you need to check it out if you have ANY teen children driving ... ❗
@@SaraJAwesome Mmmm🤔 IF you are paying the insurance then I would think you have the "right" to install one 😊 As I cover all the insurance with our family cars that is my "moral" excuse for the discrete SURVEILLANCE 😊
My problem is more new cars are having more technology and more safety features that it would be almost impossible to do driving tests unless the dmv keeps a old beater that everyone has to use
How cool would it have been to drive a Tesla as your driver license test car? I would worry about not using the mirrors correctly, because of the camera rear and side views. They tend to ding you for not turning around to actually look when changing lanes too. It all depends on the test route. I remember, I was not even tested for parallel parking, which I was really good at! I guess too many people failed the test because they were unable to parallel park. I hope that insurance bill isn’t too steep! Congratulations!
If insurance quotes are too high. I've heard Tesla insurance doesn't take age into consideration. Can't verify as I don't have a teenager, but I do have Tesla insurance and they seem to be cheaper
Yay… congrats to Brison! You're the only one who has taught him to drive? So… TX schools don't teach Drivers' Ed? Tsk. It makes me wince to think of the insurance premiums you're going to pay when all your kiddos are driving. It looks like you've got your doggy cover in the back. You'll have to do a video on that equipment soon!
Yeah, I was taught in high school. But they don’t do that anymore. Not at ours anyways. So I did the parent taught. It’s an online course and the parent teachers the actual physical stuff. I taught him all by myself no help. So I’m proud he passed first try. I guess I’m not as bad as I thought, because I think I had a panic attack every time I was teaching. 😂
So when FSD is being widely used in every car, not just Teslas, but in every car on the planet, you will still need to take a drivers license test at least here in the US, because otherwise it would make no sense to get a drivers license. And so unless and until the law has been changed, and it’s probably not gonna be changed ever unless automobiles are considered to be entities, unto themselves, and are able to fully drive autonomously everywhere, and even Tesla cars can’t do that, as they can’t for instance, reverse themselves like a human is able to do, and so they can’t really do everything humans can do today, and in my opinion, that’s not likely going to happen for sometime in the future. Comphrende.
So don’t misunderstand me I have FSD beta and it’s absolutely fantastic. I love it use it all the time, but if it finds itself in a situation where there’s not enough clearance to get around an obstacle, it will not reverse itself. It will simply stop and I have to take over and the summon feature don’t work quite the way it needs to either. So they gotta do some work on that too and park assist isn’t working most of the time for me either, as it doesn’t recognize that there’s an open parking space and I wanna park the car, it will simply not recognize it is an open parking spot so the car would do nothing. So I recognize that when the car is actually parking itself it will in that instance reverse itself so it’s not that it can’t be done it’s just that Tesla hasn’t figured out how to get the car to recognize the situation when you’re driving in FSD to reverse itself in order to get around an obstacle.
They have specific licenses for driving different classes of vehicles due to their obvious differences, RV’s/ Motorcycles/ Tractor Trailers. One pedal driving vehicles should be a different class of license. I would not trust a kid who took the test in moms Tesla, to drive dads Ford F150. It sets a dangerous precedent, creating a false sense of accomplishment. Now imagine asking this person to drive a packed Uhaul truck or van in busy traffic, or a friends car after a night of partying and they are the least inebriated. If a person used Autopilot or Full Self Driving during the test, I wonder if they would pass.. My father made me take the drivers test in a manual transmission car. His logic was, if you pass, you can drive anything… 🤔
