I used the sigma 16, and 30 f1.4 on a a7sii for quite a while. only clear image zoom. i continued to do so on the a7siii as well. but the lack of af in xavcs was very annoying. I do have FF lenses. but i would love to have a decent amount of f1.4 line of lenses. i use a rokinon 14 f2.8 for most part due to the FF. ive managed to use the sigma 16 f 1.4 which becomes a 21mm f1.8 @ a 1.3 crop (you never need the full 1.5 that apsc mode forces you to use ive noticed ) and it still produces pretty sharp images with decent bokeh and blur. my only issue with it is the focus is only on the center so lets say im doing a rule of thirds pov it wont work out cause it wont focus on people to the left or right of the vf. but to juxtapose it. if i dont crop (so crop in post) i can use the AF, but like you mentioned the quality is just less. to me almost not worth it, clearimage zoom produces the best for me on the a7siii with apsc lenses. currently i just use a tamron zoom lens FF f 2.8, the rokinon 14 like i mentioned, and the good ol sony 50 mm f1.8 which remarkably does not focus hunt or breath too much for me. i can reliable use it on a gimbal and maintain focus on subjects. at f1.8 wide open. its pretty good. on the a7sii or a7iii its horrible lol. i keep it in manual focus or DMF for most part unless im on the a7siii. i can't wait to get the viltrox 85 1.2 for e mount. thats all i believe im missing. also want to upgrade the 14 rokinon to the sigma 14 f1.4 maybe even get that laowa 10 mm. but i need the funds lol. side not i use ef lenses as well and man the f4 70 mm even in manual mode on my a7siii (a7sii as well) has taken some of the best pictures for me yet! yes pictures on the a7siii with canon lenses via manual focus. apologize in advance for the punctuations and lack of paragraph organization. im being lazy but i wanted to leave a comment before i go off to yet another shoot.
Interesting - I haven't attempted to use clear image zoom on A7Siii because you lose the AF features. Since I rely heavily on AF, it's not really an option for me. However, the APS-C lenses on A7iv/A7Cii/A7RV work really well. Thanks for sharing your experience!
Think we minmax for what they are. A7s3/FX3/FX6 for state-of-the-art lowlight and fast read out, and others for whatever they are good at. I only invested in FF lenses but think that I would be more than happy when I need to turn to APSC mode on my A7c2!
The APS-C mode on A7Cii is sooooo good! For most people, I would recommend buying the A7Cii over the A6700 because it offers incredible performance in both modes and just "feels" like a better built camera. Plus it has Flexible Exposure Mode when shooting video which the A6700 does not have. It's the BEST way to shoot video on Sony, but not every camera has it.
Cool tests, thought C and G were the best, but they all look great and even the worst offender would be more than useable for me 😆, glad I was able to inspire anything other than regret after watching my videos 😂
🤣 Love it! For sure, the A7Siii is the best performer of the bunch, but that does require FF glass (big/heavy). The A7Cii works just as well with APS-C or FF lenses so it's the best of both worlds.
