Decent progress for Australia. Finishing 6th out of 8 teams obviously isn't great, but all the teams ahead of them are very well established in IFAF juniors, and the Aussies had moments where they looked like they belonged. Just way too many big mistakes.

It's too bad they couldn't get an 8th country to attend the championships, which I assume is the reason why Canada had to field this 2nd team so they could have 8 teams participate. I would have loved to see Germany field a team and watch Germany and Austria face off with how well Austria did in the tournament.

@@jeancharlesmeffe8333 Oh that's right! How could I forget about Mexico not being present with them consistently having strong showings in these international tournaments? Sorry about that and that's too bad that Mexico couldn't attend in the end. It would be nice if financial assistance could be arranged to help more teams to attend in future editions of the tournament.

@aetfggdgdfgret If it's not your type of game, fine. But those who are keen on helping it to develop internationally get nothing but resistance and whackamole from the AFL if things start to develop anywhere. You're obviously not aware of this, and to think it has little or no international potential or following is wishful thinking and ignorance.

Interesting stuff. American football has a reasonable fan base in Australia. Season runs during our summer. Not many people play it (though there are some small leagues) but plenty watch the NFL on TV. But to make things interesting here - maybe have Canada vs Australia in Australian Rules football?!
@MartinInBC
@MartinInBC Месяц назад
I played American football in the Sydney competition from 1985 to 1995. We played during the Australian winter, only a college-length season of 10-12 games. It was never a big sport but it was interesting to play, and it was nice to be in at the start of a sport.

Reasonable fan base in Australia I dont know how you classify what a easonable fan base is I dont know a single person that actually watches the game. Probably a bit like AFL or Rugby League in the Americas you may get a few watching it on pay TV late at night especially expats but the majority of people in those 2 countries probably wouldnt know that the games existed and even if they did they wouldnt bother watching them.

Chess is probably more popular than grid iron in Australia……i have to study the rules of the game to perhaps understand it…why is it called a touchdown when it isn’t touched down is my first port of call
@Arasteele
@Arasteele Месяц назад
From wikipedia --- _"The term touchdown is a holdover from gridiron's early days when the ball was required to be touched to the ground as in rugby, as rugby and gridiron were still extremely similar sports at this point. This rule was changed to the modern-day iteration in 1889."_

NFL games or even College games are an awesome spectacle. For a foreigner from a rugby nation the game itself lacks action as it stops and starts every few seconds, with very little happening between the stops, but as an event it can be mind blowing. There is sooooo much happening in the car park, cafés, and bars around the ground it’s almost irrelevant what happens on the field. SERIOUSLY….. when College Airforce play at home they have F16s doing burnouts 300 metres above the stadium. It’s fckng awesome!

His momentum from the catch brought him into the endzone, therefore it is a touchback. Source: If a defensive player, in the field of play, intercepts a pass or catches or recovers a fumble, backward pass, scrimmage kick, free kick, or fair catch kick, and his original momentum carries him into his end zone where the ball is declared dead in his team’s possession. The ball belongs to the defensive team at the spot where the player’s foot or other body part touched the ground to establish possession. If that spot is in the end zone, the result of the play is a touchback, even if the ball is not on, above, or beyond the goal line. (11-6-1)
