This review is a Canadian Forces (CF) (French: Forces Canadiennes , FC) 2014, Individual Meal Pack (IMP), Menu #7 "Hamburger". There have a been a few other rations that have a type of hamburger patty but this is the first I've ever seen with a bun included! I do have some hamburger type buns the US produced but they come in a large bag of either 6 or 8 buns. I think if they could have added some potato sticks for some simulated french fries and a packet of squeeze cheese you could have a cheese burger. I enjoyed this ration a lot and if you get the opportunity to snag one I recommend it! Thanks BlackdogBob! You rock! Like, Share & Subscribe Cheers!

I never had MRE cheese in the military. I wonder what it's like. It doesn't really sound too appetizing. Small packets of sticky stuff are a hassle regardless. We did actually get peanut butter packets a few times. Just keep sucking the stuff slowly out of the packet while walking and you don't fall asleep and have something to concentrate on instead of the pain.

Love that coffee mug. And I agree,you would think the US would have thought of the Hamburger MRE first,but it did take us 30 years to get a pizza in MRE form.

Those in charge of US MREs are more concerned with filling out all the required boxes on the nutritional requirement chart than whether or not the damn things are edible. Damn bureaucrats.

Wow. Outstanding IMP Gdog. Great review of what looks like a really well thought out ration pack. I am jealous as F that you are acquiring 2014 menu items from the Canada and I cant seem to find anything up here yet. lol. I really cant think of a better north american meal to get a soldier squared up overseas than a good burger, does anyone make a grilled cheese IMP or MRE yet? A reasonable option for potato sticks aka fries would really be the bomb. If it was me I would trade that peanut butter out for a spreadable cheese.... Looking forward to your next video of course, keep them coming!

The peanut butter is there for an extra option. lets say you eat the meat as a steak or on just one half of the bun. With the peanut butter you can spread it on the bun section(s) instead and enjoy if you desire, maybe saving it for later.

My local army surplus recently got a bunch of those 2014 MREs, mostly breakfast ones. But, sifting through, I found a lone hamburger one so I had to get it. I'm new to MREs, but I agree with you, the bean salad was delicious, and the burger was really good too, but I think some cheese spread would have made it better. Still, it was pretty good, and for curiosity's sake I'll definitively get some more eventually. Cheers mate!

I've seen several places that serve a peanut butter burger. Yup, PB instead of mustard or ketchup. I thought the bean salad was highly suitable for a "picnic" ration. Lastly, it's funny that the French word for hamburger is...hamburger. Hence the one word meal label.

The hamburger didn't look that appetizing and the salad not much better but I guess if your out there on a mission and had a rough day and your tired and hungry you would be thankful for anything to recharge your energy .

The Balsamic vinegar is a sweet/sour sort of thing and I think it should be very enjoyable don't put too much mustard or you won't be able to eat it.

I think it is more important to fuel the body first. The little creature comforts are nice but if I have to carry the weight I just want the protein, carbs, fruits/Veg and fats. Cheers!

Great review. Yes we Canadians love burgers as much as you Americans. I was reading on wikipedia about military rations. There's another Canadian hamburger ration that includes a poutine (pronounced pooteen). Ever tried one? They're really good. They should've added cheese to the burger. Oh well.

The one thing I've learned since doing rations is smaller companies either form larger groups or get gobbled up and bought by a bigger company. I did a 1991/92 IMP it may have been a Freddychef I just don't recall. Cheers Allen

Great review on A different meal. Personally, I pass on Ketchup and mustard, go for steak sauce and Mayo. I know the mayo would not keep in A meal, steak sauce would be good tho. I like the idea on the potato sticks, maybe the powers might listen?? They can't put cheese or pickles, but A Jalapeno or bacon cheese spread might have worked nicely? Peace, John, Magnum. Doesn't look like a bad meal. But a couple of issues; where are the pickles and onions? No crackers for the peanut butter? No cookie or other dessert? How about one of those milkshake mixes? I like your idea of the potato sticks, or maybe a little tub a potato crisps (Pringles). I would rate it a high 7 or an 8. Just needs a few additional things to bring it to a 10.

the bun is a little off puting if you haven't had the old shelf stable bread loaf. the bean salad wasn't the best choice of sides, chips/crisps would be almost impossible to have in there without ending up with a bunch of crumbs. does Canada have hash brown sticks in one of their rations? cheese spread would have definitely "bean"(lol) a better choice than peanut butter. good amount of drinks as usual. is it just me or does it look like they made the patty to be split in half? I'm not sure what could have been put in between unless you have something tucked back from a previous ration. nicely done!

+Kevin Moore - the funny part is that Canadians and Americans have quite a few of the same items in their IMP and MREs ( some of the same sources) BUT Canadians seem to have a bit more diversity - Salmon, this burger, etc. I think there should be more vegetable components as well as vitamin tabs( corn, peas, green beans could be in a side dish pouch)

Why did slather the crust of the bun with the juices? You should always slather the inside of the bread since its porous and is better at absorbing. No wonder you made a mess.

They can be found in Army-Navy type stores but the best way is to track down a friend or friend of a friend in the Forces. I'm lucky I know some very resourceful people.

You can use them however most IMP retort pouches are wider than the standard US FRH. Of course if you folded it a bit no worries!

They actually have Flameless Ration Heaters in the CF supply system; I think the reason that they are issued separately was due to Canadian Transportation of Dangerous Goods regulations; the IMP packaging isn't robust and waterproof like US MRE's, so there's a greater chance of the FRH being punctured and activated if it got wet. Those things don't just heat up, they also give off hydrogen gas.

Generally there's a communal pot that the whole crew heats their packs in. Alternately, there's a solid fuel stove that nests with the canteen and cup for individuals to use.
