A) Most importantly, there's no substantive reason for getting rid of them. Canada doesn't have an issue with semi auto long guns. You don't need more reasons beyond this, but I'll offer a few. B) Culture: There is a huge sporting and hunting culture in Canada that will be directly impacted by banning them. Why ban something as significant as 'hockey' for no reason? There are literally more licensed firearm owners in Canada than hockey players. C) Economics: This community generates billions of dollars every year for the Canadian economy. Culling it will result in far less spending by the community, causing many shops to close and people to lose their jobs, meaning more people on government assistance coupled with a big blow to tax revenue. And the resulting tax payer contributions needed for the government to buy back all these guns will be well into the billions. D) Dangerous non-compliance: Due to the huge number of unregistered guns they are banning, and the baselessness and pure disregard for the community doing so affects, there will be mass non-compliance. This will in turn create many paper criminals out of otherwise upstanding citizens and will lead to numerous unfortunate situations that will wreck lives; again, all over something that does nothing good apart look good in a headline for those who are ignorant of recreational use of firearms and how safe they are in Canada among Canada's most vetted and scrutinized citizens.

Fine for unregistered guns, but many are registered. If you "lose them in a lake" you'll be charged with a number of offences since there's no legal way of using them on a lake or transporting them there.

They sort of do, but at the same time they don't. It's because they talked about it during last election in 2021, that could very well cost them the majority. Previous Conservative leader O'Toole did try to be center about his policies to attract more Liberal and NDP voters. However, thr Liberals call him out on trying to unbann the "assualt rifles" from 2020 OIC and make it a wedge issue so he had to clarify his stance. But the clarification comments anger various Firearm associations hence making him look like he is wishy washy on their firearm reclassification platform. Ive had a bunch of firearms I’ve wanted to buy to start my own collection one day and now those dreams will just stay dreams. Small note to add as I don't believe it was mentioned. On the list some of the banned guns, by name, are some bolt action rifles and pump action shotguns.
Even then in Australia we can own semi-autos rim-fires and shotguns if your a collector and can own handguns if your a club member. Farmers and pest controllers can also own AR-15's and so on So Canada is now even worse then Australia and NZ in Firearm laws.

The one thing he keeps repeating, our PM, is that they are not targeting law abiding gun owners, and yet, right from the beginning, he started banning weapons that law abiding citizens had the right to own. I am not a gun owner, but am in the Armed Forces and I have training with a lot of these. I'm hopeful for the US. We got rid of the assault weapons ban and constitutional carry is in 26 states now with more coming. Not to say a sudden change can't happen with magic 3am ballots to elect elitist cronies but there is hope.

Canadian gun owner here. I’m almost 22. Got my licence at 18. Did the firearm safety course at like 12-13. I own 2 guns, saving for a 3rd. As a young Canadian who loves to shoot both for sport at a range and to hunt, I am very mad at my government. I didn’t get to vote in 2016 against our national king of stupidity, spending and taxation. There are so many promises he’s made that he has broken, not ignored, broken, that there was an entire website dedicated to tracking them.
Nothing changes for the channel as it's run by a licensed business, so that's a small plus. This only affects 'law abiding civilians', which does also include me. This is all so stupid.

I’m glad you talked about the sense of responsibility tied to gun ownership. The seriousness and responsibility of Firearms ownership fills the role of “rite of passage” in a way that few things do in a modern era (read Joseph Campbell to understand how important that is). The only other big one would be getting your drivers license. It’s a huge, defining experience for us, which is why gun grabbers are so casual about taking it away. They simply don’t understand what they are really trying to take from us.
Gun grabber also draft up their amendments like a high school projects that forget to do the formatting properly. The fight is far from over and this will take a long time to resolve for sure.

With the license system registered all it takes is the government to look at these owners on the board and send in a troop to examine and charge the firearm owners if a illegal firearm is presented It sucks do much ass but the possibility to keep the arms is still there.
